Sonic Z-Treme is a Sonic Fangame that was made for the actual Sega Saturn. You can burn a disc to run it, for the video this is ran in an emulator. Sonic Z-Treme carries the legacy of Sonic-Xtreme an official Sonic game that got canceled.

Speedrun version is at 5:46. I also learned after making this video you can spindash.. Welp I guess this is a no spindash speedrun. lol still did pretty good. Also the white is on the screen because I was having issues with the aspect ratio and if I cut it any more it would have looked weird. The music is edited in using Sonic X-treme's OST.

Except the Sonic Team learned from the shortcomings of Sonic 3D, Sonic X-Treme, and Sonic R to skyrocket the franchise forward with the Sonic Adventure series, or did you forget? Even if X-treme came out, it would be criticized for its camera view. Plus, they actually put out a game with round level designs called Sonic Lost World with no awful fish-eye camera but it still wasn't very good.

my childhood would have been very different if this game had been released. why didn't they do something like that at the time? it doesn't seem like something that hard to do, there were already games like that, like Bug, or Bomberman 64

Likely removed because of he lack of map editor for Sonic Ztreme and the loops, twists, and gimmicky platforms were programmed for a fisheye lens.

redhotsonic tried that actually by burning it onto a cd-r disk. it works surprisingly well on saturn.

I think the level design could use some work. The levels look cool, and they work, but they dont seem to be speed oriented like most sonic games.

the level design isn't ideal, but it's a demo. besides that, you have to consider the hardware it's running on. having sonic go at full speed isn't really an option (even sonic r is relatively slow)
