I always enjoy your reactions but this one …1972. 12 years old. Still remember where I was when I heard this song for the first time. I’ve seen them in concert 14 times. I’m 64 and walk my dog to Close to the Edge EVERY day.

I seem to recall this from years ago, the song is about his commute from his house to the studio in the morning. He was inspired by a traffic circle, not something you see too much of in the US.

Saw YES first in 71 at 15 years old and that life changing experience made me an instant YES fanatic! Intricate, virtuoso and highly imaginative musicians here with the first commercially successful song because their record company sent an 3 mins. edited version to the radio stations but 70'sYES were never mainstream or compromised their need to always break ground and progress. ProgRock was known for it's virtuosity, various changes in chords, time signatures, moods, textures & rhythms & YES were THE BEST. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, this AMAZING song is just a BABY-STEP for YES. You've opened up A CAN of BADASS here!!!! This is just scratching the surface of a band that PUSHED the LIMITS of what was creatively possible in the 70's! To find this out then YOU MUST discover more music from these "GREATEST" ROCK musicians of ALL TIME!

Love this tune, bought the album when it came out and learned to play this song. Roundabout was written by Steve Howe and singer Jon Anderson while on the road in Scotland. For the song's slower section, Rick Wakeman plays a Minimoog synthesiser and flute sounds on a Mellotron which he said gave the section a "Strawberry Fields mood". Apart from his Martin 00-18 Acoustic Guitar in the intro, Howe plays a 1961 electric Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster throughout the song. Check out 'I've Seen All Good People'or 'Owner of a Lonley Heart'. This came out in high school in man I had to learn that acoustic guitar intro, and so many people did. But the whole thing is a masterpiece obviously and I'm so happy you dug it but I would say to this day, still my absolute favorite part of all this is Chris Squire on the bass guitar. It just blows my mind every time I hear it even now. And I was a pretty good bass player for a while there but this still blows my mind.

I'll make this simple: 1. Roundabout 2. Yours Is No Disgrace 3. Starship Trooper 4. Siberian Khatru 5. And You And I 6. Close To The Edge You've heard 1. All the rest are Must Listen YES Masterpieces. Then there's another dozen or so that are also masterpieces, or near-masterpieces. If you start out with those first 6, you will be blown away every time. They are ALL 🔥!

I call YES my 'coffee-card band'... like those punch-cards you get at the coffee shop, _"Buy 5 coffees, get the 6th coffee for free!"_ , I paid to see them 5 times, and the 6th concert was FREE! ;-] Seriously, it was a free concert in Montreal in the late '90s, sponsored by Budweiser, I think. Just looked it up... Concerts Wiki: _YES - June 19, 1998 Island Park, Montreal, QC (Megashow Budrock, with Okoume and Alan Parsons)_ Indeed, you read that correctly, one of the opening acts was Alan Parsons!!! It was an amazing event!

Heheh, remembering finding the EXACT spot on the floor to sit in front of the big old Decca Gram "stereo" (ie two speakers) for the sweet spot to get the full stereo effect of the Yes Album. Memories!!! Glad you love it, over 50 years ago, this was prog rock at its best. Even my teachers at my junior school didn't listen to them, but 8 year old me did. The synth and keyboard as of today was not available in 1971. Rick Wakeman plays Hammond organ, grand piano, mini moog, harpsichord, and mellotron. Every new album including artist like Wakeman, George Duke, Brian Eno, Keith Emerson, brought new sounds to us, unheard so far! You should try some Zappa ... and Gentle Giant!

this has been in my playlist since mp3s were invented, in my CDs before that, cassettes before that, and LPs before that. one of my all-time favorites, top 15 without doubt (outside of the entire Zeppelin catalog, which is a completely different list of its own, independent of and coming before all other songs--which start at #2 lol). this band is a major musical influence on countless others. Steve Howe is one of those guitarists on the top-tier lists. he's played some incredible solos in concert. takes your head on a long trip lol.

The 60s (and into early 70s) provided us w a little talked about clash w (at the time) modern studies of popular music w individualistic and obviously classically trained composers. If there was a vein I'd like to see a reactor travel that would be it. Cause it bleeds over into the 80s and on to now. **req. Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces. But there really are so many. Cal Tjader, Leroy Hutson, I. Hayes, R. Ayers (60s? I think so) G. Clinton and were not even talking some of the heavy hitter instrumentalists that gave us repeatedly emulated and sampled sounds we'd come to take for granted. Tldr - keep it up shon 🗣!
