They lack of female but there is Tanya for replace Jade. Nitara for replace Skarlet. With Cyrax (female) coming in DLC so they came to genderswap all known secondary (Fujin, Nightwolf etc...) Characters like Kira are not worthy to be mentionned but Dairou did! We want Sareena on the base roster but we got her in Kameo with Khameleon and Ferra lol. Creative team have some broken choices. All have 50-60 years old so no more techno music. So no more 3D, stage Fatalities or Hara Kiri. They fumble content, fumble crossplay, fumble 3rd and 4th free outfit. Fumble armageddon in story mode. Fumble the Deadly Alliances. WTF happen ?

MK1 story has been the best done by Neather Realms until now, and contrary to any previous ones it has nothing that will piss you off, specially compared to MK11, though there is one thing that i criticize about it, but thats spoiler territory. . . . . . . . . . . . . . While im okay with most of the story taking place in Liu Kang's New Era, i think it was a huge missed chance to not have a portion of it take place in Shang Tsung's Era. Would have loved to see the changes he did to his timeline and see how he dealt with each character. Did he restored the Zateryans and has an army of sexy Reptiles? Does he encourage the Shokans and the Minotaurs to an endless war to prove to him who is more worthy of his blessings? Does he takes Sonya as a bride? As much as i loved the story mode, the lack of story telling about Shang Tsung's side is something i wish would have been touched, but who knows, maybe we will see that in the expansion, if there is going to be one.

Kung also wins ONE real fight against an underpowered Raiden and the player doesn’t get to use his complete moveset because of the outdated character chapter system being as limiting as ever.

Not exactly. I know it's a fault of writers of not including IMPORTANT things into the story itself, but still. Official site says that "Too lazy for hard labor and too shifty for honest work" Meaning he literally the reason of his problems. "But he isn't supposed to suffer for the things done by not humself" or smth like that. I mean, the only thing he needed to do, to not be miserable is being a good person, something that Liu Kang hopes him to be, considering Liu's interactions with vilians. But there's a problem. What strange tho is that info from the OFFICIAL SITE contradicts the story. For example Liu says "I allowed them to live their _meaningless_ lives" So Liu made Shang miserable on purpose, so Shang has no other joice (something that contradicts official site and interactions with some vilians). Or Liu hoped that Shang would live a honest life (something that contradicts Liu's statements during his dialogue with Geras) Goddamnit NRS, choose your position already

One aspect about Kung Lao that wasn't brought up in the video is that in Kung Lao and Raiden's relationship is that Kung Lao plays the older brother role, rather than the younger brother role like with Liu Kang previously. This makes his personality far more realistic and enjoyable IMO, since that's a very common thing for big brothers to do.

Love Kung Leo (edit: jokes aside, that's the first review that does justice to this game without blatantly sucking up to it... a bunch of nimrods making MK1 only about competitive stuff and forgetting the level of details pointed it out here. SF6 has regressed to a childlike look and mindset but apparently that's the way to go because MK1 will never be allowed to evolve. But NRS better wake up, also.)

Kung Lao being cucked out of his moveset because he gets his hat later and then us never playing him again is actually tragic. I get what NRS is going for with the whole 'oh, everyone's getting their canon events' shtick, but doing it like this where we can't even use them in the story afterwards, much less contribute much besides being another jobber is actually just insulting. Kenshi is an even worst case given he gets a dramatic scene where Sento responds to him only for his only contribution to be a Kameo fighter in which we aren't even shown him actually using it in any meaningful way.

Like I said in a community post, I have lots to say. This may be one of my shorter comments. Don’t click “read more” if you “ain’t readin allat” lol: Where to even start with this garbage story? The setting of the game doesn’t even make sense but I’ll talk about that later. For now I’ll ignore it and take it for what it is. The opening of Shang Tsung as a snake oil salesman is interesting and paints Liu Kang in a…certain light. And we don’t know how or why Shang Tsung is an Outworlder now. What gives? But then that scene is instantly ruined by “Kronika”. Just her appearance alone is triggering. I hate it. It also makes 0 sense. And we have no idea when this opening is meant to take place. Is it right before the first chapter? Months or years prior? We do not know. And we will never know. The first chapter is decent. The dynamic between Kung Lao and Raiden(weird name for a Chinese man) is quite nice. I like Madam Bo but I hope she isn’t supposed to be Bo’ Rai Cho. That would be awful. But her relationship with the two farmers are nice. I particularly like this version of Lao. He’s still got that bravado and ambition but he isn’t really a massive dingus mostly. I wonder where he got his powers tho because he’s clearly got them and in a game all about origins it’s weird that we skip over that. Is it some special magic or chi technique exclusive to the Kung family or something? How does he later make his hat have the same magic? We won’t ever find out. The Lin Kuei section is ok but it was very stupid for many people to believe an assassin clan that was explicitly stated in the trailers to be good was shaking down some tea house. Why did people think Smoke was just out here actually beating up old ladies? The chapter itself is fine. The real issue is the return of the terrible character chapter system. These will be the ONLY fights for Kung Lao. And 3/4 of them is training! His only real fight is against an underpowered Raiden. Congrats on making Lao look like a chump. And what’s worse is that he doesn’t even get his full move set. We will never play Lao WITH THE RAZOR HAT in this story. I hate NRS. These are issues that has been present since MK9 when we couldn’t use Jax with the metal arms, but at least MK9 Jax didn’t have a limited move set so M1K does it worse! This won’t be the only time this issue appears. Imagine a studio still making the same mistakes from over a decade ago?

4:18 While I do believe Madame Bo is somewhat inspired by Bo Rai Cho, I don't think she is this timeline's version of Bo Rai Cho, I think that since Shao Kahn and Shang Tsung were neutralized meaning the MK Tournaments wouldn't be a big threat to Earthrealm so Bo Rai Cho being one of Outworlds greatest Warriors didn't have to train the Shaolin so he could just remain in Outworld, I think that Madame Bo is simply another talented martial artist that Liu Kang trusted to train Kung Lao and New Raiden to make them strong enough to survive Outworld's threats and humble them enough to lead them down a good path in Bo Rai Cho's place. That being said I do love Madame Bo and would be down for making her playable and am curious to see if they have a interesting direction for Bo Rai Cho like maybe he was a former leader and/or trainer of the Umgadi or something interesting like that.

The story still suffers from the 1 character per chapter thing that Netherrealm does sadly. After chapter 1 Kung Lao never has another important moment ever. Good introduction but this does really limit character interaction, growth, and arcs. One chapter is all they have.

I will never forgive them, that they kinda erased Hanzo and gave Kuai Liang Scorpions power- so bizarre- my opinion...the only thing I like in MK 1 is that they brought back some older Charakters- specially Reptile and Smoke and the arenas are nice. And I hate the DLC'S. Homelander, Omni Man and Peacemaker are dumb Characters- in both ways. Not fitting in at all!
