Gating a delay tail to minimize unwanted sounds to keep a mix sonically balanced is a great tip. Thanks.

What I like about Rich is that he uses a variety of plugins from different guys. He's not a 'so and so' plugin snob. If you get what I mean? Some good insights, I like the template routing.

Love this guys work. He uses the same approach that I've found works best for me, but for someone who listens to the minute differences in sound quality for a living, he sure does smack his gum awfully loud! I'm gonna have to run RX Mouth Noise on this before I can finish it!

Yeah I tend to agree, however I think it would take too long for this format. I think it's more valuable him talking through the reasons why.

I love using multiband for all kinds of things, especially mild instrumental ducking when the vocals or lead instruments come in - that carves out a little extra room just for the frequencies that the vox need to be present without pushing everything else down full band. My fav for this is izotope's Alloy 2.

By 5:15, we all learned that we can do this all in the box... if we have the mixing console from the old Sound City.

rafael marchante angulo doesn’t matter the drums sound great before he even gets to mixing.
@rafaelmarchanteangulo4582

@@ERICdaGREAT09 Totally. It goes without saying. Still the tutorial was not "how to mix crappy sounding stems and make them sound great". It's "Analog Sounds in the Box". Whith this level of guest you would not expect the takes to sound crap or be recorded in a mediocre studio... ultimately this is just promo for their soft plugins. If we learn stuff in the process so much better for us
@ERICdaGREAT09
@ERICdaGREAT09 4 жыл бұрын
rafael marchante angulo right but the analog sound isn’t coming solely from ITB plugs. It was already baked in before the plugs even hit it. So the title is still a bit misleading. Yea he’s still mixing like it was an analog desk. But that “analog” sound was already there. He’s not showing here how to achieve it.
@rafaelmarchanteangulo4582
@rafaelmarchanteangulo4582 4 жыл бұрын
@@ERICdaGREAT09 right. as you know the industry is quite compartmentalized. people at this level are not expected to take care of every step of a recording generally. If you're a mixing engineer you take care of that part of the process (which is what this tutorial is about). if you get given tracks to work with that don't sound good (or analog, or anuything else) reverting them to sounding good (or analog or anything else) is probably impossible, or in any case unrelated to what this video is about. I was not expecting, upon beginning to watch thi video, that the mixing process was going to involve any magic of that sort. Just top notch recordings being mixed in the box etc..
@arande3

Lol when he played the track, I thought it was some sort of professional track you laid with the video but then I realized he's the one who mixed it. Hahaha super professional sound

as we use reference songs for mixing, should be good use reference YT video to compare ITB vs Analog, in the ¨mix with the masters¨ series it is very funny to me when i listen to Tchad Black who mix ITB then i switch and listen to Andy Wallace or Brauer with his big console and his racks, to me the big consoles works are far aways more powerfull and beautifull sounding than those who mix ITB, i agree there are lots of reasons to mix ITB today but the sound quality is not one IMHO ;-)
