I'm alive, I swear! Quarantine and lockdown procedures made it awfully hard to get to my paints - two flights and a train journey away, in fact! READ MORE:
At last I'm back home and all is well so far. I've got my fingers crossed to get through all of this with as little mess and fuss as possible, but as someone that's flown internationally in the last few days I'm required to self-quarantine for a little while longer. Better that I be out of action for a couple of weeks rather than inadvertently get someone else ill, right? I've been lucky enough not to have any symptoms of the virus yet, but wherever possible it pays to be cautious... so with my paints and miniatures in front of me it's finally time to do some painting!
You can find all the STLs used to make this miniature at www.reptilian-...
How I Paint Things is a series of simple instructional videos designed to help the newcomer through some of the basics and demonstrate how the very simplest techniques can still give you some great results that're easily replicated. Aimed at the beginner to painting miniatures, there might be one or two tips or tricks that help even you old hands!
Remember you can follow/reach me at the following places:
/ sonicsledgehammer
/ sonicsledge
If you like what I'm doing and you'd like to chip in, why not check out my Ko-Fi? How I Paint Things will never be behind a pay wall, but anything dropped in the tip jar is greatly appreciated and really helps.

I was excited because I thought GW made Tallarn again. Then I was sad because I saw it was a 3d print and I dont have one. Then I was excited again beccause I can just buy the mini pieces direct from reptilian overlords. Its been a roller coaster these past 60 seconds.

This was another great tutorial! If there were any mistakes I couldn't see them. I am glad you are back and well. I did not know there are water soluble resins for 3D printers. That makes me want to go ahead and invest in one. Thanks for taking the time and effort in making this.

Glad it was helpful! I haven't personally used any of the water-soluble resins yet, but a couple of buddies into their SLA printing have and highly recommend them. Once I'm through my supply of 'original recipe' I'll try picking up some of the shiny new stuff and give it a shot.

Resin or SLA printing allows for much finer detail than FDM printers do; the Elegoo Mars is similar in most respects to the Anycubic Photon, and a really cheap entry point if you're looking to print high-quality miniatures like this!

If it helps at all, there are 3D printing services that'll do you up bits if you supply the STL files. Reptilian Overlord sells the files on their site, and under normal circumstances would be selling resin parts to make the miniatures as well. Their casting service is shuttered during all the COVID-19 shenanigans, but with any luck they'll be selling physical stuff again soon. :)

@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't really noticed any negatives to it. I have managed once or twice to split the paper after using it for far too long and getting a little bit of normal paint on to the foam underneath, but it seems not to matter. As long as the paper isn't letting anything mix, I'm sure it should be okay?
@JamesThompson-1
@JamesThompson-1 4 жыл бұрын
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I agree. To me, it doesn't sound that possible that the metail flakes (which one would assume are larger than the other components of the paint?) are going to get through the paper and contaminate the sponge and water when the rest of the paint would stay on top, but it does seem to be a well supported notion. Also, glad to see you're back home safe and well - it's bad enough working from home as I am, so can only image how trying the last few weeks/months must have been!

Where are the arms with laser gun from? Can't find it at Reptilian Overlords...
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 4 жыл бұрын
There's an arms pack, but the rifles aren't actually attached to the hands - you need to physically glue a lasgun or similar into the model's hands during assembly. Or once you've got the files, you could find an STL for a lasgun you like and attach it to the model in a program like Meshmixer or 3D Builder. :)
