You are such a good teacher, you inspired me to start 40k! The only thing holding me back was not knowing if i could paint good enough. After seeing your Blood Angels vid i finally did it. Now i have over 2500 pts of the mad lads and have been painting all sorts of minis! Because of you ive even went out of my comfort zone again and have a 2000 pts Ad Mech army in the works. Rambling aside i love your content and cant thank you enough for inspiring me to become a better painter and be proud of my work! ps: i never thought i could make a Commissar look good, thank god for this vid im def gonna have to try this scheme out!

Very cool! Glad to hear you decided to take the plunge and get involved. It's a hobby with an awful lot of moving parts, tips and tricks to pick up as you go, but there's nothing to be lost in giving it a shot and everything to be gained. :D Blood Angels are an excellent choice, by the by.

Looks great! I'm not happy how the start collecting box got painted years ago so I'm repainting part of my small imperial guard army soon. Think I like this color scheme a bit better so I'm glad to find videos like this exploring different uniform/material colors.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio The other thing is the unique models require special paint you wouldn't usually have for the main army. I live in the back arse of Ireland so it's not easy getting new paints here 😅

Without you I genuinely would not be painting miniatures. Everytime I think I've grown past some of your techniques, you throw in some colour combos and options I really did need to know about. Thanks for your efforts, they make the world a happier place!

Great to hear! There's always something new to find out; it's why I don't worry too much about repeating information in some of these videos, since ultimately it might find its way to someone who hadn't heard it before. Nothing beats a bit of experimentation. :) Really glad you're enjoying the hobby!

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I definitely am and you are a key reason for that; without your guide for how to paint dark angels I would not have been able to paint my first squad of tactical marines...so many guides were complicated and required edge highlighting, mastering that have me the confidence to push on and learn more. I would also say that you should take a look at the glazing guide on Darren Latham Chanel on you tube...that really helped in a similar way to your use of bieltan green in the dark angels video...helped me tone down my over highlighting and make things look blended while enriching the base colours using a contrast paint and medium in 7 to 1 ratio as a glaze.

Absolutely! I think it merits mentioning on occasion that there is no right way to do things. Whatever works for the results you like the look of is just fine, and over time you might find that changes but it ought not stop you experimenting.

Many thanks for this excellent tutorial. Today I made a Krieg regimental Commissar and Lord Commissar using almost exactly your techniques and the blue black with light grey dry brushes is just a great way to make the storm coat pop. My own variation was I prefer to make the tunic and trousers in dark Prussia blue instead but either way, thank you sincerely for your guidance.

This is really cool. Good takeaways for those black tips, thanks for the video! I like the idea of trying a red interior for a coat/cape/what have you, being fairly new to miniatures, it's not something I would have necessarily thought about for other models. 12:32 & 18:12 - Perfect examples of excellent brush control!

Thank you. I avoided painting this model because I don’t like doing black (or at least, don’t think I paint black very well). You’ve given me the recipe to do a good job on it. Thank you, although my guardsmen will soon have a commissar looking over their shoulder.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio4 жыл бұрын
The concerns of the Guardsmen, being small and plastic, I think we can safely ignore. ;D They've got tanks to bubble wrap and bayonets to worry about, not the Commissar! Good luck when you tackle yours.

That's a pretty efficient method of doing black. I've just been working on Severina Raine, so I know the pain of a mostly-black Commisar. One thing I've changed on my faces, though, is to do the Bugman's/Cadian Fleshtone/Kislev layers before hitting it with the wash. I find it smooths out the blends better for me. Your mileage may vary.

Lovely, maybe I'll try this on a Raven Guard tester model. At the moment I undercoat black, then paint on a thin coat of corvus black followed by nuln oil wash and highlight up. The 'wet' drybrush of corvus black could help me skip or improve the effect of the nuln oil step.
