I've been meaning to comment this for a while but when i was following your DAK tutorial i decided to try the agrax wash with contrast medium. I found it draws all the shade into the recesses like a contrast paint would whilst still shading the mini meaning there's no clean up to do to! Might only be useful for light colours and such but i think its a useful tool for the arsenal given your painting style.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I've been using a fair bit of Lahmian Medium in shades recently, but it hadn't occurred to me to try Contrast Medium in there instead. Cheers for the tip! I'll definitely need to give that a shot.

if you don't have the metallic black. you can get a similar outcome with a base coat of leadbeltcher then black templar contrast paint over it

i just painted a bunch of these for kill team i really love them i have some sample textured tiles i got from home depot that im going to use as a drybrush base i did a contrast red on the eyes to make them look glassy i only regret getting too over the top with shade so i ended up dry brushing most of the coat to get the color back.

Just a couple of notes. From Korean War and world War two vets, when wearing great coats and short greatcoats the bottoms often become noticeably singed from troopers standing around fires and stoves to cook or to get warm. The logistical supply system of the United States is arguably one if the best in the world and yet, even in formation you will see different issues and camo patterns and web gear as well as boots and helmets. My point being that as bad as the imperium supply problems are, there are likely to be different colored uniforms even in the same rifle squad, let alone platoon or company units. This really opens up painting possibilities. AND speaking of vehicles, have you ever seen how dirty heavy equipment gets in less than parade ground conditions? Go look at the caked on mud on a bulldozers tracks. Keeping the treads clean is a constant battle. Have you ever noticed that the fenders on some vehicles are designed and placed so as to remove mud so the vehicle does not bog down or throw a tread? Just sayin. Good gaming to all. And happy kit bashing! (Happy gas mask noises. ).

Have watched a couple handfuls of your videos, and I usually enjoy. However, this one particularly stood out for multiple useful tips that can be applied while keeping the technique quick and simple, thank you! Also, which paint did you use for the edge of the base, maybe Mournfang Brown? Cheers!

This one was Flat Brown from Vallejo, but it's a pretty much exact match for Mournfang Brown, yeah.

Sonic, thank you for another great video! You always provide interesting hints for new paints. You have surprised me with that uniform grey primer. Have not much experience with AP products. Is the grey tone really different to Mechanicus Standard? To which Citadel paint you wouldmatch the Uniform grey, please?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
Uniform Grey is a fair bit lighter than Mechanicus Standard Grey as a primer. I do quite like the latter, but Uniform Grey gives easier results for most mid-to-light colours going over the top. A similar colour in the Citadel range would be Dawnstone, though that's only the closest approximation; I think Dawnstone is just a fraction darker still than Uniform Grey, but it's close enough it wouldn't really matter once it's shaded and on the table.

I have a question about the agrax earth shade because I'm wondering if I put it over the demolition veterans skull mask and also will one pot of for example the fang be enough to paint all of the death korps models? Also the agrax earth shade really works well on giving the models a battle look.

@SonicSledgehammerStudio3 жыл бұрын
German Grey has a very slight touch of blue/green to it, and - at least to my eyes - is a fraction darker than Black Grey. I use German Grey for 'black,' but Black Grey works well for anything which you want to look more like fabric or rubber.
