Nice results from an accessible method; I can see much of this being applicable to similar uniforms from the 18th-19th c

Looks wonderful, and it’s nice to see that even expert painters like yourself can learn and evolve. As for white paint, I’m partial to Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White. Thin but covers beautifully, and it’s very bright white.

Another quick and easy option to get white cloth variation is to prime with GW Wraithbone and then paint crossbelts, piping etc with white.

Ak Interactive 3rd Gen White (as well as the Black which is very inky, pigmented and smooth) is very good. The Pro Acryl white is also pretty good.

@Sonic Sledgehammer Studio Pro Acryl is good, I think it's slightly more chalky than the AK white. But either is a much better choice than what you can get from citadel and vallejo.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio By 1807, all Voltigeurs had a shako which could be plain black, and have a yellow top or bottom band, or have yellow chevrons, green cords, and an all-green plume or a green plume with a yellow tip.

Wargames Foundry do a very nice Napoleonic paint set. I use their paint system myself, as they come in three stages (Base, shade and highlight), and have some gorgeous colours that can be combined with their other sets for different figures/vehicles etc. I also use artist acrylics and inks (I make my own "contrast" paints and washes, mainly through experimentation and LOTS of fun :-D). I LOVE all your videos, and this one really has me wanting to have a bash at some Napoleonic era figures, if I have any left after converting most of my own into Imperial Guard units for WH40k :-> Your painting has evolved into something utterly wonderful and inspiring over time, and you show how even the most technical skills can be learned and used easily, whether you're new to the hobby, or been in it for decades :-) Please keep them coming, as every one brings so much beauty and inspiration to the hobby :-D

I've got a couple of lamps on booms over the top of the desk, and then the intro/outro segments are filmed with a ring lamp around the camera as well. It's... a lot. 😅 An LED strip or something overhead would probably be easier, but I can't install one on the desk I have.

For the shader, do you think that for a tighter budget, I could just use Agrax Earthshade from citadel paints? It looks similar to your marine juice cocktail here, but videos can be deceiving. I still have a lot to learn about mixing paints and it is daunting to me!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
You could, but whatever you use will benefit from being thinned down with some medium. It doesn't necessarily have to be Lahmian Medium, either - some folks have mentioned having good results from Liquitex Medium or Vallejo Thinner Medium - but something that'll retain the flow properties of the shade without leaving it so dark will help loads.

Hello Sir (I believe I've saw other viewer referring to you as Troy, but I'm not sure that's your name), I just profited of the occasion of you covering another napoleonic miniature to thank you for running this channel and making me trust a little more my capacities. Although you aren't the most dazzlingly talented artist I follow, the feel-good energy that comes from your content and your simple yet effective technique always inspire me to "slay the grey", to quote Ninjon. I'm not a great painter, because of procrastination, but thanks to you I find the motivation to have minis that are "not good, but good enough" (to quote North of the Border). Why this video ? Because I've discovered this channel while searching for youtubers painting perry miniature napoleonic minis, since I always loved the napoleonic era and was considering getting into historical hobby with something else than those gripping beast's britons I had trouble reducing the number of unpainted model. Again, thank you for showcasing not so well-known brands, thus making people discover other things than GW (I personnally plan to buy some minis from Piano Wargame, especially one of the crown princes, I don't recall the name, the one with the dog). (PS : Sorry for the wall of text that, I hope, is not too full of horrible mistakes since English isn't my main language (I'm French)

So after hard thinking, I have decided I'm quitting this hobby. I have no skill even at basics and frankly have so much plastic and paints and equipment going to waste. If you would like I would like to send you what I have. I won't need any of it anymore. I always liked your channel and felt I could do this. I've tried and it's done nothing but bring me into depression. Be it gunpla, 40k, or whatever...
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
I've got so many paints and tools it'd be a waste to send them to me; if you're serious about wanting to give your gear to somewhere that it'll see some use, a local school or club might appreciate a donation. My suggestion would still be to hold on to them - any sizeable collection is a significant investment, after all, and you might regret letting all that stuff go in a month or two. Even years later, you might have the urge to do something with them again.
