I like the presenter's playing. Definitely loved the presentation, totally honest and straightforward with bits of cool songs (like queen and movie themes). BUT I have got an M50 and let me say to you that unless the piano is ultra important to you, it's not worth the upgrade. Better aspects include of course the pianos, eps and the interface. Big touchscreen with color could make it easier to edit.

To further elaborate on what I was saying in my previous reply I posted a couple of minutes ago and in the case of the Krome-yes,I suppose that I would be using the VST plug-in function of the Krome in my DAW more often then not,but for large productions,it would sometimes help to run the Krome's audio outputs directly to my audio interface and record sequences as an audio track-but obviously,some songs require more effects implementation from my DAW(in which case I would have to utilize both PC

But I think Yamaha MODX is better than this (in many ways). The problem with MODX was that it can't control external midi devices (compared to krome). It's screen brightness can't be adjustable.

@@sojimani7616 Yea, it’s a fair point, I’ve played the Modx and was really impressed. Like the Krome, it’s crazy what you get for the price, and these are only classed as mid-range workstations. I think the brightness can be changed, it’s in the settings, but the Krome has touch response and a large screen. Also, to the best of my knowledge, if you’re using this for sound banks, you can only have a maximum of two insert effects. I could be wrong here though. For the Krome you can have up to five, not including master effects.

I did not literally mean,go out and buy shit-but rather,being sarcastic to prove a point...which is that you seem to want more than a budget keyboard permits. So many people complain,because they want a "virtual" Kronos,for a budget price. The Krome has more than just software-grade pianos,as the e.pianos and drums are derived from the Kronos as well. Yes,all of the other sounds are essentially M50 sounds...but what did you expect on a budget? No other budget workstation has nearly 4GB of sound

Trying to choose between the Roland Juno Gi & the Korg Krome (61 key). If anyone has any input on which they think is better that'd be awesome. The application in which I'd be using either, would be for studio production purposes & live performance purposes.
@CowboyNQ11 жыл бұрын
Howdy Johnny I own both. The Krome 61 is far superior in terms of sound, and the ability to edit, modify, and create your own patches. It's sequencer is also more powerful than the Juno's digital recorder from what I can tell, although I'll confess I don't use these features very much, so others may disagree. They're both pretty cool boards and I picked my Juno up second hand very cheaply so I'm not complaining, but the Krome would be my weapon of choice. I will say though that the Juno's keybed feels a bit less flimsy to my touch.

...a song using a hardware workstation.When I had my Korg M3 and my Tascam 24 track,I would sometimes write & produce half,or the bulk of the song just using the effects of the Korg and/or the Tascam and not do any further editing. For example,I would lay down a bass track and a drum track(which didn't require much in the way of effects) and then import those tracks as is-into my DAW and create the rest of the song using VST's & such,without having to worry about CPU usage.

Look dude...all I am saying is that Korg-as I am sure you realize,has to adhere to their budget restrictions & their feature are based on the most popular market demographics. A midi sequencer is still very useful,convenient & it saves the PC user some CPU power,so this feature is going to remain as it has done so for decades. The design/purpose of the Krome is live use(no audio needed)...but it's also designed for studio use(hence the PC integration,in which case,the user uses a DAW for audio

As for the key-bed issue you are referring to,that was only with the original Kronos RH3 keys on the 88-key(an issue that has since been addressed by Korg) and the new Kronos X has never had any key-bed issues. As for the lighter action key-beds,you really shouldn't believe everything you read and instead,try the 61 & 73 keys for yourself,because key-bed feel is far too subjective,from one individual to another.

Still looking for a keyboard which allows to switch fast between sounds/combis. I know Kronos has setlist mode but way above my budget. When I see the Combi- Page at 16:30... would it be possible to name the combi Song1 and insert all the sounds I need for that song in the slots with the green „play“ buttons and switch trough them as the song progresses? Hope that was understandable. Sorry, poor English!
@gabrielirlanda3 жыл бұрын
That's one of the reasons the combis are created for, separate the instruments by key zones, or use those 16 tracks to choose your instrument and activate/deactivate them (play/mute), you can also set the instruments by velocity, for instance you can have a piano on track1 and a guitar on track2, and when you play the keys softly you will listen the piano and if you press they keys harder you will listen the guitar. The only precaution is that you will have to be careful with the polyphony, not adding many instruments using 2 OSC on each track (strings, brass etc) because you could run out of polyphony. Anyway, you will hardly ever use 16 different instruments in a song.

I'm no fanboy of any particular company either,as I just choose whatever works for me,but in the budget arena,good PC integration is an issue. I suppose that if I had the opportunity to try a Roland J-50 in a store,it might persuade me into buying one,but I am concerned that Roland keyboards might have the exclusivity to Sonar,as Yamaha does to Cubase and I might have compatibility issues with other DAWS. If the J50 has the sounds I seek,then great,but I need to know the ROM content,first.
@MiddleEarth006912 жыл бұрын
It seems that Roland-for the most part,has abandoned onboard midi sequencers in their budget synths and in fact,the only budget midi workstation that they currently have in production,is their GW-8. The GW-8's screen is the size of a calculator and there is only 256MB of ROM. As far as I'm concerned,this is not a viable option and not at all competitve,against the Krome.

You "doubt" that the street price for a new J-50 is $1999?"Realistically",the street price is 17-$1800 for a new J-50?Perhaps some retailer somewhere had one for that price as a black Friday deal....but the normal everyday street price is $1999. Aside from that,only a customer return or a demo model will sell for less than 2 grand. "Usefulness" of any given feature is subjective,as if the majority wanted audio as you do,then I believe that Korg would have implemented it & raised the price a bit.

Cool instrument, i really feel instrument technology is falling way behind though, there are so many spectacular things to experiment with and do, seems like some serious ipad or iphone compatibility or some new more accessible customizable way of doing things could come around, if only they would try. customize your instrument to your liking, choose different styles of mod wheels and sticks. I actually like Roland's new Jupiter series for it's sounds(based on a video I saw) and effects,but the J-50 is $2,000 and with no sequencer & sampling,a bit overpriced. The VA synth & the 1 stereo audio track is appealing,but there's no mention of PCM ROM content,which worries me. I think that if Korg put another grand into the Krome,it would smoke the J-50. The J-80 is nice,but the Kronos is the same price AND has a midi/audio sequencer..which is why I will never pay Roland prices.

Musicianship does not compensate for poorly sampled drums & pianos and even 80MB is still spread too thin,considering how many presets the Extreme has. Regardless of what you paid,it doesn't make your EX's sounds any better than the Krome and you put one side by side to your EX,you would know the difference. The EX works for you-then great,but don't discount the Krome,just because of your EX's sampling & MOSS board. Maybe you should keep your unsubstantiated opinions about the Krome to yourself.

I'm aware that some budget keyboards have sampling & multi-track audio,but there's always a TRADE OFF of features,isn't there? Think about it...how many Roland keyboards(for example),have quality sounds AND midi sequencing in such keyboards?None...actually.The Juno G was a nice idea,as it had midi,audio & sampling,but the sounds were terrible..thus rendering all of that functionality useless,in my opinion.

It's almost an exact clone of the M50. KORG kinda dropped the ball on this one if you ask me. There is literally nothing new or innovative about this workstation.

@antimarxism, You are welcome to have my "JUPITER-50" for what it's worth! I'm taking it back to Guitar Center on this Tuesday and trading it in for the "Korg Krome"; and until then I'll wait for a good minute after having it to give an authentic comment... But the "J-50";( in my opinion after 6 months of wasted time; is like someone els described it :(

JP-50 and JP-80 are failures. They promised a lot but delivered little as time as shown. Roland ought to discontinue those synths, but unfortunately too many customers are still being tricked by the colorful appearance and name.

If you didn't care,you would have stopped commenting after the first comment & ignored it altogether.

The screens are horrible and UN-intuitive, I'm sure one would get used to them though. Otherwise the engine sounds ok. The strings are very weak.

The interface looks much more intuitive compared to the Kronos, and the sequencer is a lot more powerful (wow is right). To my ears, it even sounds better. Not a fan of the Kronos myself. For people who want/need to do detailed sequencing onboard a dedicated machine, this is the workstation to get, regardless of price. (just grab a stylus, and stick a makeshift holder near the display). The only quibble is that the sequencer can only hold up to 210,000 MIDI events. Might seem like a lot, but look at 15:56. That's a lot of events. Not a problem if you can easily transfer songs between the SD card and the unit though.

" The strings are very weak." - Huh? The Krome has amazing sounding strings... maybe you need to learn how to use the synth properly?

looneyburgmusic The engine is like made for strings and brass.
