[LIVE] Shiny Ekans after 9,740 REs in FireRed (DTQ #2)

After 3 Shiny Spearow here on Route 11, I found my golden/green Ekans just shy of 10,000 encounters. Very glad to have this done as I love Arbok's sprite in FR/LG. Ekans also looks quite unique in FR/LG having a more green-tinge to it as well when compared to HeartGold/SoulSilver as I show in the video. This hunt took a while but I'm glad it's over and I can move on to Eevee which will hopefully be a decently quick hunt.
Ekans and Arbok are Pokemon that I've never really used much in-game mostly the versions it's available in were usually the ones I didn't play. I had Yellow as a kid and it isn't not available there sadly. This will be the first time using one so I'm excited to see how she performs. It's a bit of a shame that I didn't get Intimidate as the ability but you can't win them all. Shed Skin is still quite useful.

Shint arbok is one shiny that has actually been changed in the later games. That blue mouth which is one of my favorite parts of that sprite was changed in b2w2 onward

Always loved the shiny Arbok line, and it’s always going to be a memorable one for me because I thought “aw heck, let’s go for one in LGPE”… over 600 individual Ekans encounters, about 4-7 (I don’t even remember) shiny Rattata, Spearow and a couple Charmander, and about THREE LEGENDARY BIRD SPAWNS later, I’ve finally gotten one. I’ll definitely be DV breeding/maybe Game Corner SR for an Ekans in VC GSC, as part of my growing affection for its shinies? So many are wildly different and I’m actually super fond of the older sprite art using high contrast that’s lost in later games (using Serebii look at Gen 2 Mantine sprite vs later gens for a good example, the bright blue pops so much more against black). Arbok is one of those I really wanna get bc for the only time in its history, it followed Ekans’ colour scheme and its GREEN. Ekans green and purple, not gold and blue. I like both but man that’s fascinating to me. I even recall going “why does it go green to yellow?” and was shocked to discover this semi-recently. I have similar feelings for some of the Stadium/Colosseum Shinies, sometimes they’re trashy but sometimes they’re arguably NICER. If GF were ever to put in some extra love and even more RNG in the game, I’d cry with joy and amusement if they considered alternate Shinies. Not only would it be a treat to see hunters tackle that, it’d be an extra bit of joy and customisation (and pain lol). I think it’d actually be the right time to do so now too as we go into Gen 9; at least from I’m deducing from the trailers, I think non-overworld Shinies might truly be behind us now. I think of a Lechonk encounter shown, there’s no harsh cut-away which could reveal a shiny, it’s more like PLA. Speaking of that, that’s the other reason - crowd-pleasing, essentially, bc for the vast majority of kids and casual players, who haven’t had the chance (resources, time, patience, etc) to properly “shiny hunt” before, PLA really opened up the daunting barriers, even for “full odds” Shinies, bc it’s overworld sprites. So I think having potentially rarer, wildly different shiny variants (kinda like how they tried to make the square/sparkle thing pop… didn’t entirely take off, it’s too subtle). You could even make it more challenging, making certain methods the only ways to get certain variants (like an ice-type’s shiny being locked to REs in its natural habitat, one species only through breeding with another species of mon, finding a shiny of an avian species ONLY in the sky, etc) TDLR, give me my shiny GSC Arbok alongside the glorious gold baby Sonikks managed to find. I think that way it’d really breathe some new life, excitement and challenge in the community; I know I’d go nuts to find some alternate Shinies.

Hey I feel ya on not getting the target you want, I been hunting Dratini or Dragonair on the Zafari Zone on Fire Red for over 2 months. I have seen over 10,000 Dratini's and Dragonair's(Not counting the golden's, seaking's or Psyduck's I have seen and thats should be over 30k). You are right ekans’ and arbok’s sprites look great in this game, much better than some of the later versions haha. Congrats on not getting another spearow! I think it would be sick if you showed off all the eeveelutions before keeping it a jolteon. It’d also be cool to show how FrLg stops evos of Pokémon with a gen 2 evo, since I’m sure not everyone has seen that. Just a random thought, though it would be out of place haha.

Nice, congrats. After so many Spearows, it should come. By the way, repel trick lowers the number of the encounters? I 've using repel trick in gen v (chargestone cave) and the luckiest I have been is 5 or 6 encounters before i have to use a new max repel.

But in la Meseta or Andalucía the hot is so dry and unbeareable, you can literally fry eggs in the road at some of the hotter villages in summer.
