putting the instrument in his mouth without interrupting flow and making awesome blues was a first for me to see...i have played since 1962 at age 5 , as a tribal son of an Oregon tribe with my assigned tribal number given by an occupying regime i have seen constant violence towards my family and i. the intense impact on this mans life must be part of his driving force to share with those who care. very moving.

here's a true story. I was walking down Wardour Street in Soho one ice-cold freezing winter's night in the 60's with a bunch of friends on our way to Trafalgar Square to see in the New Year. In those days it was traditional to jump in the fountains if you were drunk enough and stupid enough. As we walked past the Marquee Club I stopped in my tracks. I heard a sound blowing out the door and into the street.. " that's Sonny Boy " I yelled to my mates; "Sonny Boy Williamson! I'm goin' in." To hell with the fountains. And here's what happened... not only was Sonny Boy playing, but Hubert Sumlin was backing him on guitar, and the support act was Long John Baldry with Rod Stuart and the Hoochie Coochie Men .. Rod's first ever live gig! What a night. I was so lucky to be there, just by happenstance. In the break I was able to speak to Sonny Boy for a while and shake his hand. I'll never forget that night.

Awesome memory. When my grandson was about 12, a guy unexpectedly gave him a harmonica as a gift. Unknown to us, he holed himself in his room studying Sonny Boy Williams and other greats on KZbin. He brought his harmonica to my house and asked his grandad to jam with him. Awesome. He was so good that his grandad, a professional musician, let him join his band on stage to do a blues number at most concerts. My husband played in the Marquee a few times. It seemed to be a musicians favourite haunt.

What an amazing musician he is/was. As a drummer, I bought the double chess masters LP album around 1980. It profoundly changed my life - both personally and musically. He is my master of groove and rhythm. Voice meets reed meets drums: Amazing feel he has - it seems to ooze out of him so naturally - some how I can see a connection between Miles - Kind of Blue and Sonny II. xo
