I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sonny West when he visited Oslo, Norway in May 2011. What a wonderful man!Sonny is just a very nice human being that loves to tell stories. I hope you will enjoy this one, about Elvis and Nixon. And if you see this Sonny; thank`s for still taking care of business! Your friend Chris.

I'm sorry that Sonny isn't able to read what I am going to write here. Sonny, you were there for "E" when he needed you. You as well as the other men watched over him and took care of the man so many admired for so many years. I heard him sing Teddy Bear at age 8 and have been a fan from then. I don't care what others say about anybody. I'm a grown up and I make my own decisions. My decision, Sonny West is that you are the kind of person I wish I had known. May you rest in eternal peace. I have seen Sonny West in a few interviews and before he started talking on this interview I could tell he was weakened it look like it but just like Elvis He had the same strength to deliver and give the best interview on the antidote on Elvis meeting Nixon you could tell they were similar in that way that is a characteristic that makes you love of man or woman even more. Those personal attributes reminds me of a song that I once heard entitled smile though your heart is . It breaks my heart and makes me appreciate men like Sonny West And Elvis Presley and many of us whose heart is aching and somehow we get through it with the help of God. I know Sonny is in heaven with Elvis

Gabriella B Sunny and Red and a David wrote a book about Elvis . It came out just a little before Elvis left us . It was the most despicable malicious book that these so called friends wrote . All because Vernon , Elvis dad fired them . Elvis told Vernon to give each $5.000 and to tell them they will be rehired-back in a few months . Vernon only gave them a weeks pay. Still that was no reason to be so vengeful and despicable to the man that gave them so much ; cars, jewels, houses and much more , His friendship . Elvis was very hurt and asked them not to publish it but they did it . And after Elvis was gone they now were giving speeches and still profiting from Elvis . No admiration whatsoever for these JUDAS : Sunny and Red West and David a new comer . Sunny and Red worked as Elvis security and were very rude and aggressive to some of Elvis fans poor Elvis was always being sued because of what these cold bloody men were doing , they acted as if they were Gods and mistreated people . Hope they pay for what they did . 😡😡😡😡

Not to disrespect the dead but the book by Sonny and Red West was written in revenge and to make money. What was said in the book was the worst of the worst of Elvis's life. Total humiliation. I think Sonny felt bad about it for the rest of his life. However, he soothed his conscience by saying that it was a "wake up call" for Elvis. It was no wake up call it was a pay back of the worst kind.

because he and Red were fired without reason and given a week's pay after 20 years service. They had kids and had to sell their houses, cars, etc..They were getting under Elvis' skin regarding his drug use. These guys were with him from the beginning and were the only guys with the guts to nag Elvis on his drug use. He had threatened to fire them a number of times if they didn't shut up. They were tossed to the curb like an old rag. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute and think about it.

Amazing that so many Elvis fans give this man the time. Lots of "pray for Sonny" comments, but when Elvis needed Sonny's prayers, Sonny was busy writing a tell all book because he was upset at being laid off. As far as I'm concerned, this book was one of the final nails in Elvis' coffin. Sonny, Red and Dave Hebler are useless.

I thought this was a great book. When I was a teenager, all the Elvis fans were girls who ended up all getting pregnant by age 16. They spent much of their subsequent lives as single moms smoking cigarettes. To each his own. I didn't think that West had any particular ax to grind against Elvis. Elvis was just a singer! You are so wrong. If you've never been around addictive behavior, you'll not understand. Sonny, Red, Lamar, and Billy,...tried their best. How do you think Red and Sonny felt,...after all those years of service and friendship...to be summarily dismissed..not by Elvis,...but by Vernon...via telephone. No warning. No severance. They felt betrayed, and hurt. What is worse, is that these were no longer boys, but men with wives and family to support. They got...Nothing. To a man...they had all fought battles for Elvis. (Red and Sonny even fought physically!) To a man...they all loved him like a brother, even though they knew it was the end. If Elvis had called and said he needed Red or Sonny, they would have gone to help him...even after the firing. Truth hurts, but...it will "Set you Free." These were outstanding men, and courageous enough to call him out. He was not a god to them. He was a brother who had taken a wrong path.

I'm more fascinated with the Elvis' story nowadays than way back then... guess a legend never dies just fades away like a soldier.

I always felt that the reason Elvis so desperately wanted that badge was to cover up any future legal problems he may encounter from his ever increasing px drug habit

In an interview with Memphis Mafia members Lamar Fike, Sonny & Red West and Marty Lacker it was confirmed that Elvis wanted the badge so he could travel across state lines with not only drugs, but guns as well and not be hassled..
