Ah, James, I so look towards to seeing your videos. I love the detail that you give to us, along with the obvious enjoyment that you get from being involved with high end audio. I like that you seem to have the same learning curve that we all do with a new piece of equipment. Please keep posting, you're a joy to watch and you are a great ambassador for Soundline.

Hi there, Loved how detailed your video was. I did not get bored and watched it 'til the end 😁 I now was able to understand much better how the architectural sono speakers are to be configured. I recently purchased a home with built-in architectural sono speakers but I wasn't sure how to connect them. At first, like many others I thought the speakers were wireless or bluetooth. Womp womp- (bummer). There's about 5 or 6 zones, can I use any other AMP or is it necessary to use the Sonos AMP?

Just to clarify you are measuring the resistance with a multimeter not the impedance.

Interesting, because all the manuals and specifications I've read on speakers including Sonance the manufacturer of these speakers, uses the Term "Impedance". See specs on this page: www.sonance.com/in-wall-in-ceiling/visual-performance/medium-round-square

Tommy is correct, your multimeter only measures resistance which is a DC measure. Impedance varies based on the frequency of an AC source. itstillworks.com/measure-speaker-impedance-2931.html. Appreciate the review!

For smart home usage, do you think the Sonos amp is a must have when considering building a ceiling sound system ?
@SoundlineAudioNewZealand
@SoundlineAudioNewZealand 4 жыл бұрын
There are many options out there for in ceiling sound systems, non of them sound as good as pair of floor or bookshelf speakers of course but there are many options. so the Sonos AMP isn't a MUST HAVE, its just a good option to look into.

The fact that that little amp can drive 6 speakers down to a 2.4 ohms is pretty amazing. I would imagine the amp would be cranking out quite a bit of power at that low of a rating. Could you please share where you heard that the Amp would handle that load? Only documentation that I can find show stable to 4 ohm (250 Watt).

www.sonos.com/en-nz/shop/ceiling-speaker-pair.html On this page down under the FAQs it says one amp can handle up to three pairs of speakers. But they have to be the Sonos ones.

Yea we are waiting for higher channel count support as well, even just 7ch! But I think the issue is their products don't have an advanced enough surround decoder in them to do any more than Dolby 5.1. (Which is also the max that toslink can provide). With more of their products using ARC rather than Toslink, who knows maybe this is on the horizon.

Bit disappointed to see that the back of the speaker is open to vermin intrusion. We live in a country area and suffer field mice problems. Also if you need the speakers further away from each other you will need additional amps for each position of speakers making these speakers very overpriced. Very disappointed in these speakers.
@dlloyd6300
@dlloyd6300 4 жыл бұрын
You must not have a lot of experience with architectural speakers. 95% of architectural speakers are designed for free air use, as boxing the back can severely hamper installation flexibility. Backboxes often add a large amount of bulk to the speaker if properly tuned for the enclosure, or the enclosure is out of spec for the speaker and it affects the sound quality. There are however architectural speakers that ARE enclosed that will suit your need. You can search or I can point you in some directions if you are really interested. They are often quite a bit more expensive than free air. More design elements as well as lower production volume. I could actually sell you some if you are interested.
