SONOS RANT! | New App Update (June 2024)

HiFi Brothers bring you their honest opinion of the new Sonos App. It's been a crazy couple of months and not everything is going really well. What do you think?
This was recorded before the recent changes to Sonos’ Terms of Service which has many in the community enraged.

Since the upload - looks like the new App update 80.03.06 (iOS) and 80.03.03 (Android) now adds: ▪️ Numbers to the volume slider ▪️ Mute button icon ▪️ Support for SonosNet channel selection ▪️ Stereo/mono configuration for Amp or Port Our collective voices are being heard! 💪 Please share your experience(s) or anything else we may have missed in the comments.

It seems like they are not longer support the Boost. Can you confirm that? At least The App is not reconizing my unit any longer.

The app is utterly appalling- Sonos shafted its loyal customers by releasing an untested app just so they could line their pockets for the ace headphone release Queue management is still a joke - no ability to delete tracks or move tracks about and worse still if you change the source to watch tv and then try to go back to the music queue it’s impossible Utterly farcical and whoever was responsible should be sacked The shareholders should kick out the entire board

I agree with you on the app update. i think giving people time to transition but I guess sonos never learns their lesson! I wish they released a beta instead of rushing the software out. It seems a lot of these developers would rather rush out a product then spend extra money beta testing too bad. On the headphone side, apple even has a heads phone for $450 so for Sonos to price their products as high as apple is a huge disappointment, i am 100% sure there are better products then their headphones.

Unfortunately this seems to be the norm for all software companies nowadays. ie: video games, apps, websites - list goes on. “Just release it now and we’ll deal with it later” - seems like these releases are to appease financial benchmarks. As for the 🎧 - the biggest draw is the connectivity to home theater but I’m really curious on how often people would use them that way. Again, that $450 price tag - yikes! If they were $299, it would be a no brainer purchase.

They ruined software that wasn't even close to ready so they could sell headphones. Speakers drop every time I play music. Takes ten to fifteen seconds to even play/pause when it works. Airplay is even sketchy most of the time. And apparently, they took out the part of not selling customer information from their TOS.

My $7,000 system is total crap now. Only my soundbar has been connected the last 6 months!! Run for hills anyone considering buying ANYTHING Sonos.

Did anyone figure out how playlists made in the sonos app are shown? I can't find them at all. Thanks for any advice!

Only way I could find is by adding a song or playlist to “Sonos Favorites”.

I just bought a Sonos beam gen 2 and mini sub yesterday and the Sonos app won't work. Keeps saying mini needs update but won't update just gives error 1000. So I have a sub and app I can't even use at all. I guess I should have went with the Bose system instead

Same boat as you - it was working flawlessly before the app update, now I have to “restart” my beam for it to get TV sound. Frustrating!!!!

The only problem that I have ever had whit Sonos is when I tried to do the trueplay again after the last update and it wasn’t working but I tried a-few hours later and it works other than that no problems at all

Yep! It hasn’t been “buggy” for me like I’ve seen for others, just more of missing features (which are getting slowly added back) or having to learn the app again.

Bro I got some stuff installed yesterday at my house and was so excited. The techs that came over couldn’t even get the sub gen 3 to work.. the app is annoying and doesn’t connect to anything.. I’m tired of this BS, I regret my decision even getting into this Sonos ecosystem. It’s a big POS

I was on the verge of buying sonos. I'll keep an eye out on what the communities are saying and maybe buy later. But for now, i will stick with my wired basic speakers. Changing app layout and functionality to hardware that requires the app controls makes it feel like you're not really in control of your hardware.

This is sort of the downside to Sonos is that it’s always been app dependent.

I love the system but Sonos lost customer is me. The latest update was screwed me for a month now. I don’t recommend anyone surrendering me friends or family anymore.

It is horrible, since the release im so disappointed with my 6 speakers system. The equalizer doesnt even work for me, i cant even shut down my subwoofer through the app or adjust any levels. It’s extremely laggy while changing songs or volume, so now i mostly play music straight from the spotify app. If the system wasnt many years old i would return it no doubt

The app is utter garbage and they need to scrap the app; I have to restart my android app 2 to 3 times to get it to work. Always defaults to System not Found. It takes 6 seconds to adjust the volume to update, Can't play Get the Shot - dominant predation song from youtube music. Also when my phone screen times out and goes black and I open app again and nothing is loaded. Lately I found that my sonos is going into mute mode without my input. Android wigit is gone. Each time I open the app it makes me so disappointed. They try to solve the app issues by releasing headphones. Just look at the stock price since the release of the app in May.

Imagine Samsung messing up the TV remotes, will you buy samsung TV ? If you use android, i advice to delete current app. Install the old app Apk files are available. Change auto app update setting on Your phone. I don't know about iOS but thank god I am using Android. Rolling back actually feels like an Update to this mess.

I find it's painfully laggy. The Volume slider can be 10 seconds out of sync to the volume change. Sometimes it say No Products Found. Having to hit the back button to get back home etc... Terrible app. Great hardware.
