In this video, I demonstrate how to snap 2 foundations to the same center post rotated 45 degrees to one another! Also how to leave them with decent-looking corners on an octagonal shape.

Awesome. I wonder if a full and ¾ log for each wall segment would close the gap as well as give an option for alternating length at the ends to give the illusion of an actual stacked log corner. 🤔 OCD explanation.. so if you were looking at a finished corner, the first row would be ¾ on the left, then full on the right. The next would be full, then ¾. The full log overhang would then alternate moving up the wall.

Thank you so much for tackling this build and providing us with the design! I've had difficulty building a large symmetrical octagon in the Forest but it seems possible in this game! Only one question though, how would you go about making it larger?
@knightbeforedawn
@knightbeforedawn Жыл бұрын
Well the alignment on the corners varries with each expansion but once you get past the inner most frames, most of the logs get easier to place. It's mostly a similar technique the whole way out though.

Interesting. I had found a bug that merged 2 points on a standard grid but i never figured out how exactly it worked. days later 2 vids of this glitch.. The version i found makes a normal grid have a PERFECT 45° beam between 2 points in the same grid, not a 45° offset grid overlap. The 45° beam would stretch out to reach both points. Planks already placed would also stretch. It is really interesting to see.

@knightbeforedawn i actually had a completely different trigger happen when trying to make it happen again. Rebuilding the original structure as small as i could, (the glitched area) then slowly building the rest of the structure around it. I managed to get a save where i simply place 1 log and it happens.

Do you also have the horizontal log connected to the other grid? For some reason the first log on one of the 2 grids must be the first horizontal log placed. So just make sure the one you're having trouble with is the first horizontal beam.

I am releasing a a video tomorrow that may be relevant it has to do with building offset on a grid and if you can get your offset just right you might be able to build a staircase that's just off of the grid and as a result might still work to give you your staircase. It's not specific to such a use but may work as a substitute depending on the situation.

Yeah sometimes I find you need to place a snap point from above. So off of the joint you're trying to snap off of place a log vertically (I use 1/4 log) then angle a log down and lift the end to match grid height the remove the logs that are above the main grid and this will give you better odds of getting the snap points you want!
