I have the 10-18mm f4, 11mm f1.8, 20mm f1.8 G, 16-35mm f4 PZ, Tamron 20-40mm f2.8, and Voigtlander 40mm f1.2. That’s how I put together a kit for wide to normal for APS-C and full frame. Three of these I bought used from my trusted supplier in Japan. The 10-18mm f4 OSS actually works fine on full frame from about 13mm to 18mm and is cheaper now. The newer lens has better features but that OSS is important to me. Nice video…!

The corrected version is the real 10mm of this lens. You don't loose something, you get something extra if you don't correct it. The thing with the sharpness - optically corrected lenses also suffer a loss of image quality to the corners. In the past this loss was very heavy with all ultra wide lenses, because optical corrections come always with a price. The digital correction is a compromise so you can concentrate on some specific charateristics of the lens to be correct, but the combination of both, makes the overall image quality better.

Hi Wes! Great video. What would you recommend, sony 10-20mm or tamron 11-20? I'm interested strictly for landscape photography. I'm in the UK and actually cheeper than the sony. Thank you

Hi, you have test the Tamron 11-20? I ask you this, because online no-one talk about this comparison, but I think this is so interesting, I'm curious to see the difference , for a future purchase ! Thank you so much for the answer.

I bought the 10-20mm. Struggled in low light. Traded it in for the 11mm 1.8. Weeks later realized I made a mistake and bought the 10-20mm again (kept the 11mm 1.8 for low light scenarios). This lens is amazing!! 15-30 Full frame equivalent. With clear zoom on 4k up to 1.5 on my a6400, it gives me a range of 45mm on the long end. I'm in heaven for all things video in good lighting. Counter low light by bringing your own light. Or use a prime. Great lens!!

I’m too much of a primes kid to live with f/4, especially at APS-C. My bias 😏
@A4bcreative Жыл бұрын
@Wes Perry That's fair. The way my bank account it set up, I need to be flexible with these things. 😂🤣🤣 Honestly, bokeh is a little overrated on wide angles to me. I'm going wide to see more. F4 is fast enough for that (video wise).
@TheJASDrummer Жыл бұрын
I am mirroring you as I have the 3 primes and a 6400 and zv-10. I worry a lot about low light with the 10-22mm but love the idea of it overall. I have a lot of light options with a small studio so I am hoping I'll be fine. I mostly want ot use it outside for grab and go for walk abouts and maybe landscapes. Do you use mostly for video or photos? Or both?
@A4bcreative Жыл бұрын
@@TheJASDrummer I use it for video only. With a variable ND filter, you can go outside and love everything about this lens. Wide when you need and close enough when necessary.

Viltrox 13 1.4 is a lovely lens, but it’s a big one (see my review). It’s not sharp enough wide open for say Astro work, though. I’m not sure that any of the APS-C options are, though.

Hi Sir, I am a interior designer, I am looking for a decent camera with lens for photography and videography of our interior projects, architectural projects as well as landscape photography, it will be very useful for us if you can suggest the ideal camera with lens

I wish people would stop compaining about plastic parts. Plastic is lighter than metal. All that metal adds up when I'm hiking to a shoot locations. It would be great if youtubers could say right off the bat if they are testing from the perspective of a vlogger or a photographer.
@bondgabebond49076 ай бұрын
They never mention the inner frame that makes up the interior. It has to be metal for the most part. I asked Arthur R about this and got no response. Love to see someone buy this lens and disassemble it to show the innards. Most of the You Tubers are shills and not exactly loaded with intelligence.

@WesPerry2 жыл бұрын
Well that’s a whole other beast (likely much better. And although it does have a lot of distortion, probably not as much as this one). This lens is a 15 to 30mm f/6 full frame equivalent 🤓
@akirahojo2 Жыл бұрын
I’m struggling to justify the cost of upgrading to the 10-18mm f4. The IQ of the 10-20mm is superior but for a lens made for video, the lack of OSS is mindboggling. I don’t have nor use a gimbal either. Normally I shoot landscape followed by a panoramic 180° video handheld. And in shaded area the f4 is a struggle to use… wonder if the 11mm f1.8 might be a better choice but I normally use the 12-14mm range… and the Tamron is too heavy for my hike. Hence the conundrum…
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
Yeah the lack of IBIS in most of Sony’s APS-C bodies is incredibly frustrating. They’re specifically targeted at vloggers but are missing this important feature. Their software bade active stab is just so mushy at times.
@TW-iu9zy2 жыл бұрын
… thx for the reviews Wes. 👍🏻 And indeed we got the 15/1.4 and the 10-20/4 lens for our a6600. Both lenses compares well to the 16-55/2.8 and the 70-360/4.5-6.3. As photojournalists we shoot mostly with fullframe glas and the a1 - but if we had to travel lightweight, we use our APSC equipment. It’s great, that Sony have these flexibility with the e mount system.

I wonder, which ND FILTER may be used without getting vignetting ? (such a wide lens).
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
If that a concern, just use a step ring and a larger sized nd ;)

@@WesPerry I'm pretty new to APS-C cameras since I use Sony full frame A7riv camera. I want to buy 11 mm 1.8 Sony lens. If I mount this lens on my camera, will the focal length stay the same, 11 mm?
@WesPerry Жыл бұрын
The effective focal length of the 11 1.8 on APS-C is actually 16.5mm, and will be the same on either full frame or APS-C, because it’s a smaller image circle either way.

I am rather miffed with Sony for not putting OSS in this lens as ai Have an NEX-5, and a6000 and a6300 w without stabilization. I recently got an a6700 and an EV-10 which both have some form of stabilization so i an deciding to bit the bullet on this lens. F4 is fine for me for this type of lens since I mostly shoot photos in decent light. For darker environments (museums, galleries) I have some faster primes. The focal length range and small size strikes me as very useful as an urban walkaround lens. Good match for my Sony 18-105 f4 power zoom and my 1Sony/zeiss 16-70 manual f4 zoom. $100 dollars off at the moment so I'm going for it ...

It would have been a lot bigger so i am fine not having it
@gabithemagyar9 ай бұрын
@@bijosn Don't think it would have been much bigger. They have OSS in small lenses like the kit lens and also in ones like the 16-70 Zeiss. I think it's more Sony's strategy to start adding IBIS to more camera models and this is a way of encouraging people to trade up.

@KlipsenTube2 жыл бұрын
Funny review. You heap on negative remarks, then give high marks, but that's OK ... I get you. One thing, though: I'm not going to be using this lens with "active stabilisation", but with IBIS, and perhaps one of the main reasons Sony abandoned OSS on their latest APS-C lenses could be a return to AS, now that they started putting it in their camera bodies again.
@WesPerry2 жыл бұрын
Active stabilization is generally pretty terrible though. But also I try to be aware that even if I don’t much like a thing, I may not be the target audience for it, and it can still be Good. Just not great for Me ;)
@KlipsenTube2 жыл бұрын
@@WesPerry I can easily relate to that. There are lots of lenses whose intended purpose is far from my "needs" - but should be evaluated based on their purpose ... and you do that, so no problem. Still, this lens is not built for at battle zone, and you may underestimate the quality of the "thin" plastic in use, and while you may be able to change focal length much faster with a mechanically coupled zoom ring, you will also twist and turn the camera away from the subject, which may be fine if you shoot stills, but power zooms are intended for smooth, noiseless zooming during video recording.
