Hi Matt! Thanks as always. Just wanted to add one more option for wedding filmmakers who do like zooms. I swear by the Sigma Contemporary 28-70 2.8. No, it's not 24mm and not quite as sharp as the Sigma Art/Sony G-Master, but it is crazy light (470g) and inexpensive ($799). It allows me to keep one lens on my a7siii the entire day, including on a gimbal, monopod, tripod, or handheld. Then I switch between the Tamron 17-28 and 70-180 on my a7iv. This setup covers all of the bases and allows me to film 40-50 weddings a year by myself. After bouncing back and forth between primes and zooms, in my use case, the versatility of the 2.8 zooms outweighs the obvious advantages of primes. I hope this helps some others out there who also film solo!

For those who's knowledge, age or memory doesn't go that far back, 35 years ago Minolta was already making A M A Z I N G 24-80mm AF Zooms with optical quality rivaling today's. Sony has Minolta's DNA allover and buying them, absorbing their technology and bringing along their technicians was one of Sony's best business decisions of all of its history. Sony's imaging department today would be nothing without Minolta. From AF, to Live view, Mirrorless, Its all thanks to Minolta.. they had it all then, just no idea how to sell it. Sony knows how to sell.

I have never use prime lenses at a wedding since I started using my zoom lenses I rather not be switching lenses out of wedding and risk getting any dirt on my sensor is one of the reasons I don't use them, and the other reason is because I normally film weddings by myself. but I use the sigma 24-70 2.8 sony for all my wedding now. before that I used the Tameron 28-75 lens. but I love the sigma better, I think I get fantastic quality with that lens.

That times 1,000,000. Run and gun 24-70 GM unless I'm doing details with the 90 macro. I would like to get the 16-35 for some epic wide angle gimbal movement. But yes, the 24-70 is the Cal Ripken Jr of lenses. All day...every day go to!!! Would like to try this one out though being lighter. Wish it was a bit faster though.

Try the 50 1.2, it will change your mind and footages. I run with a 50 1.2 and Tamron 35-150 using 2x a7iv. I now just bring a backpack instead of 3 bags.
@EyeLensWeddingVideography

@@webstermediasolutions8976 I watched Gerald Undone comparison review of this lens plus the old version and the sigma. this lens is a little sharper and the build quality is better. but in my opinion is not worth double the amount of the sigma. if it was only a couple hundred dollars more than the sigma then I'll be like yeah it's worth it.. However if money is not an issue and you just want the best of the best then this is the lens that you want to get because it is the king of 24 to 70's for Sony, Sigma is a very very close second.

@@papsny 50 1.2, I'm sure it would it's a fantastic lens not sure if I want to pay that price tag yet besides I'm getting great quality out of the sigma I got now. Tamron 35-150 is also I heard that's a really awesome lens to. I'm guessing that you used a 50 mm for all the detail shots and if you're having to deal with any low light issues. how are you liking the Tameron do you ever feel like it's not wide enough at a wedding? reason why I'm asking is because I'm thinking about getting that one.

I’m looking forward to creating with my 24/70 2.8 gmii. I had to sell my PRS guitar to get it. It’s all about the image and who it makes happy. I also picked up a 50 1.8 for 200 at Best Buy just to get used to the a7iv before I was able to buy the zoom. I think I took some great shots with it. Will definitely look into a high end prime down the road.

I swear by my Sigma 24-70 2.8 (I owned the GM too but sold it for the Sigma). However, it is rather boring. You do sacrifice a lot of character for a safe all-around lens. It depends on the event, but the 24-70 is worth the money to have in the bag if you're a working professional

Great review, thank you. I can't afford the Sony 24-70 GMII, and it's far too much to spend on a 24-70 lens ... but I'm going to buy it anyway. Not for weddings, but just for general use. The 24-70mm f/2.8 has by far been my most used lens on my Nikon D810 (and on previous cameras), but, at the age of 65, that camera/lens combination is increasingly getting too heavy to carry around all day. By all accounts the Sigma is optically almost as good as the Sony, but the extra cost I'm prepared to pay for the Sony, albeit reluctantly, I see as a long term investment in a contribution to my physical well being!

Meanwhile me, looking at my GM1 which now has an inflated/loose zoom ring grip, after just 3 years of light use (thanks co*vid). Plus feel like I get more/better footage with my 28 f2 on a gimbal xD So will probably buy a prime next instead of 'upgrading' 😁 24-70 is definitely useful for unpredictable run and gun scenarios though, and as a single body shooter, it definitely saved me now and then..buttt cant say its fun, and after a point you end up taking too many unnecessary wide shots and 2.8 footage 😢 Would definitely use this lens if someone gave this lighter lens to me for free though 😋

There is always the 20-70/4 G if you care more about weight and size than DOF. Realistically, its just abut DOF because otherwise the difference in optical performance -- especially for video work -- is academic and irrelevant. Maybe you can use this most of the time and switch to a second body with a cheaper prime like the 55/1.8 for close cropped bokeh.

Can I please get your opinion on something? I've seen so many people rave about how amazing the Sony G master 24mm wide angle lens is, but I don't recall seeing anyone talk about the G master 35mm. And I have a feeling a 35mm is going to work better for my needs. I just got my A7IV and want to get a really good lens, but it's going to be my only really good lens for the time being so I want to make sure it's going to be versatile enough for what I need. I get occasional paid gigs doing birthday parties, family photos, etc. but I don't go searching for jobs so it's pretty rare. My main need is to start filming music videos for my own music. Can I get away with using the 24mm to do all my performance shots and b roll for rap music videos? Or am I right that a 35mm would do way better? And have you heard anything on the 35mm G master? It's just as expensive as the 24mm, so I'm hoping it is just as good. Thanks!
