Lovely video, Steven. I really enjoy the updated transitions and how you use the superimposed text for additional commentary. And what you said about going back and looking at the photos you took months ago with this A200 reminded me how recently I went back and looked at a bunch of folders with photos I took, like, 10 years ago with the Nikon Coolpix 8800. And like you I was surprised to see how they looked better than I was remembering. I'm sure I also liked them back then when the 8800 was basically the only digital camera I was shooting with, but I love this feeling of rediscovering. Yes, sometimes you look at very old photos you took and go 'Eugh, what was I thinking?' or 'Why have I even kept this stuff?', but other times (and with certain cameras or lenses) you almost have the impression that they've improved with time or simply aged well. You inspired me to look into these Sony cameras with that 10.2 megapixel ccd sensor and I did pick up an A330 with a 18-55 and a 75-300 for 120. I really do love the images from this camera. I find myself reaching for this camera many times over my better newer cameras.

Just picked up the a230 for $80 after being gifted the beercan lens with a maxuum 7000. Picked up the Minolta 28, 50 and 35-80 zoom for 40 with a second maxuum body and accessories for $40. Can’t wait to try it out.

I just bought one last month after viewing your previous review on it, and I love my a200. I'd like to see how the a57/a58 compares to this one if you have one with you. I think those old dslr are the way to go for enjoying photography

I picked up a Sony A200, here in Manila, for $50 with an old Quantaray 28-80mm zoom. I then found a 28-200mm Tamron, in great condition, for $30. It makes a great do-it-all lens for the A200. The A200 takes great images. Well worth picking one up!

This was my first 'proper' camera, and I used it through my first year of university back in 2010. Unfortunately it ended up breaking after a tripod it was on fell over. I moved onto the Nikon D200 after that. Brought back memories you speaking about both in this video!

your editing is improved, great work. 10MP CCD is a sweet spot between lovely rendering and breathing room for cropping, being an A Mount is a plus.

I noticed a difference in these images too. Just bought a Canon 40D for a similar reason (because I’m already invested in Canon gear) but I could be tempted by an early Sony Axxx/Minolta :)

As a Minolta film camera user my first digital SLR was the Sony A100. Then I had the A350 (Sony's last CCD sensor camera). Although the colors were great I had a very high auto-focus miss rate with the A100 and A350. The A65 and the A77 resolved that for me. I liked the A77 even more than the A99 (which was not bad at all). The A77 was just snappier. And my A-mount lens collection performed partially fine, partially poor. Some lenses were great (e.g. the 24mm F2.8 and the 50mm macro) and others were just a disappointment. When the Sony A7 came out I ditched my A-mount stuff but kept all vintage lenses (for my A7 which is sufficient for manual focus lenses). Unfortunately I had to sell most of my 160 vintage lenses collection when I moved to South-East Asia (I kept only 13 lenses). But some of my vintage Minolta lenses made it (Minolta Rokkor 24-35mm F3.5, Minolta Rokkor 35-70 F3.5 macro , Minolta Rokkor 40mm F2 and the Minolta MD 50mm F1.4) The color consistency is great, the sharpness is sufficient and these lenses are easy to clean/repair. Therefore I can say (and confirm) that my experience with Minolta vintage lenses has always been good too (from the Minolta X500 era on).

I've just been given an old A200 camera .. my first DSLR. (I had a Pentax Super A in the 80s and 90s but I sold that years ago) I am keen to try digital photography so this wil be a start. I see you are using Minolta lenses, a name I remember from way back. Is there a rreason you have chosen Minolta .

I have an A300 an 18-70 kit lens plus Minolta 50mm f1.7 and 28mm f2.8 (And the Minolta dynax 3000i) all of which are sat in a glass case from which I resurrect them now and then. I think the Sony has the same sensor as the A200 and is pretty contrasty.

Looking at picking one of these up off feebay for £100. Mrs wants to use it for landscape photos but could anyone recommend a lens for the a200 for macro shots. I love taking macro shots on my phone with the lens attachments. Thansk for any replies.

10/9-23 I own a couple Sony digital cameras , one bridge camera with 30x zoom, plus a Sony A SLT digital body that takes the "A" mount Minolta AF Lenses . Like you said the lenses are a lot more reasonable than Pro Sony lenses. I use several of the Minolta Maxxum Prime and Zoom with some with macro, plus the better Beer Can lenses along with a 24-300mm range to cover all the bases. No one has ever asked me what camera or lens took my photos, the images tell it all, plus Sony is known for making the sensors for sveral of the Name Brands cameras on the market.

Please review the Fuji S5 Pro. It is a Nikon D200 with Fuji SuperCCD internals and takes Nikon lenses. Interested in your thoughts on using High Dynamic Range mode 6mp vs Nikon D200 and Sony A200. I have point-and-shoot Fuji F70exr with SuperCCD 5mp which is very good for a small sensor. Very little sharpening is done by the camera as the expectation was to do it better on the computer because of processor power and cost at the time. I have and use Minolta A mount lenses adapted to my Fuji mirrorless. I highly recommend Minolta 20mm F2.8, 50mm f1.4, 35-70mm f4, and 200mm F2.8 with 2x Minolta teleconverter (very small impact on IQ). I prefer these over Fuji and many modern lenses so I gave up AF to adapt them. I think the 35-70mm f4 is a little better compared to my Fuji 35mm f2.

Haven’t owned an A200. My first DSLR was the Sony A100. I sold the A100 when I upgraded to the A350. Not sure why I sold the A100… I guess I wasn’t a “collector” yet. 😂 I still have my A350 and have added an A330, an A700, NEX-C3, NEX-5R, an A55 (daughter is using this one for her yearbook class currently), and an A58 to my Sonys.

I saw an A200 and an A330 on a used market that’s within my budget and also look at the specs… but, couldn’t really decide on which model because I prefer the A330 frame but then again I’m just starting into photography and the A200 is a bit cheaper… thoughts, guys?

Take the Compact Flash card out and put it in a CF reader connected to your computer. I do this because I bought it without the USB cable.

That's funny. I was gifted a Sony A200 by a colleague of mine earlier this year (she was clearing out storage space, and it was just collecting dust), and today, I packed it in my bag for tomorrow. It's going to be my daily digital carry during this work week. It came with the kit lens, but I found a 30mm f1.4 Sigma lens (45mm full frame equivalent) and a Sony 20mm f2.8 (30mm full frame equivalent). The Sony lens is basically a Minolta lens with a Sony logo on, and owning a Minolta Dynax SLR camera, the A200 very much feels like a Minolta camera with a Sony sticker on it. As a Minolta fan, I like that a lot. In fact, when I realized that, I went and picked up a Sony A58 to get something a bit newer in the A-mount range. I have had opportunity to shoot with the A58 in some very rare locations since then - but because it was at work during working hours, I can't share them outside of work. Anyway, Sony were very smart, when they acquired Minolta's DSLR range and production facilities.
