Auto focus is not great as indicated in many reviews. If you simply do video without moving much like me, then this is so far so good :D

I agree with tobetwobees2b, the auto focus isn't the best but I've been playing around with the settings a little and you can' minimize the loss of auto focus a little and keep it locked in.

Sony a5000 has more natural color than canon m10. It is perfect for daylight. But sucks in lowlight. Also, sony has a very expensive equipments. Canon M10 does a great job in both daylight and lowlight tho. Canon M10 wins!

I am not sure about other parameters...But Sony kills everything in low light performance. Sony performs better in low light

I think the Sony has better picture quality. It makes things look more realistic. Its sharper. The canon has far better lighting. But it added a glow and smoothed details too much for my tastes. Due to the overheating, I would go for Canon.

@@ericdieker9316 the Sony was way sharper and cleaner. The blurry bits were out of focus. Canon has better exposure but the quality of the video wasn't nearly as good.

The company that doles out features to constantly force its customers to buy new equipment because it never gives them all that they need... which is... Sony of course. But see, I'm completely full of it because after spending at least three nights watching scores of reviews, I finally settled for... the new Sony RX100 V. It's a lot of $$$ but I figured, if you're gonna spend 6 or 7 bills, you might as well throw two more and get the best point-and-shoot camera on the market at this point. I would rather have bought a Panasonic because I love the company but... the Lumix LX 10 isn't quite there yet unfortunately.

itsonlyemily Go for the a5000. It has better autofocus, better grip, and better ISO performance (means that it can take less noicy shots in dark). Even better choise is a5100, it's about the same price as a5000.

damn, hellova good review, man! i already have my a5000 with lenses of 16-50, 18-55, 55-210 aaand 16 with vcl-ecf (fihseye), and as far as i got in options - on Sony you can change the "Metring" option on "Multi", or "Centre" or "Dot", so you could choose the light distribution on your shot

pesuainepoika​, I already bought it and I am.using it for videos and photos as well. Kit lens are good, however if you use an EF-EOS adapter mount with auto focus support, you can expand the capabilities. right now, I am using 50mm f1.8 EF lens and I am contented with the performance. it is not a perfect camera for some but for me, it is a better start and step up from the smartphones, which is not a "real" camera for me.

Rage Dauntless I bought an a5000 instead and i have been very impressed with it and especially with it's autofocus. It's stupidly fast in almost every situation. It's very helpful in situations where it's hard to manyally focus. Canon is probably very good aswell.

pesuainepoika can you try recording 30 minutes of video? People say Sony cameras overheat and shut down after 15 min of recording, especially at highest 1080p setting?

This is a fantastic review! I have an old Canon point and shoot and have contemplated getting a sony for months. From what I've read on the specs, Sony gives you 20 mps and the Canon has 18. Although the auto lighting filter is obviously superior, this is something that can also be touched up in editing. Also a plus that I like about the Sony is the richness in color. I was looking at the Sony a5000 on Amazon, and thinking of buying it. However, when I found out about the Canon M10 I was maybe considering it a bit more. I decided to look on KZbin to see if there were any comparisons. I didn't think there would be any at all, but I just wanted to check. Your video was the first one that came up and I was SO happy! It was exactly what I was looking for! I was so happy I had watched the video, because it made me have a whole different view on the superiority of the Canon M10 to the Sony a5000. I already purchased the A500 for video only..I just noticed that it was difficult for it too stay focus when I recorded a video. but your right the low light on the Sony is not great it had to use 2 umbrella lights and a ring light, this was a simple upgrade from the nikon point n shoot. sony is more realistic in videos:) canon is bright however it's too white washed. the blinds disappeared while the sony was still able to pick up all the details. M10 isn't a bad camera though. I'm guessing Sony 1500 (newer model) might be better than the M10. Sony is known for their mirrorless cameras after all :)

a5000 was Announced almost about a year and a half ahead of the m10, and it was 100 dollars cheaper than the m10. We are here, of course, are expecting the m10 has a bit better performance. but for the overall score. I think A5000 wins. Not only for the C/P ratio, but also it has better Color Depth and Dynamic Range than m10.

The stabilization, autofocus and low light on the Canon are far superior. The motion blur on the Sony is terrible when he was moving his head and the low light has a lot of noise.

Cinestesia Anime ya, I've had a few people say that. All I can say is that all settings were out of the box (default) settings. Maybe what you guys saw online were videos with adjusted settings for the low light? Who knows. Thanks for watching.

Honestly the Sony a5000 doesn't seem bad at all in this video in low light. BUT when he put it side by side to the Canon m10 that's when it appeared bad in low light

sony's color science is great canon is just over exposed when outside but in terms of image stabilization and auto focus, i give it to the canon m10.

Great video. This is exactly what i was looking for. The only thing missing to be perfect was a conclusion at the end. Would have loved to hear your opinion after reviewing the footage. To me the M10 was a clear winner in light, audio and zoom. I only couldn't hear if the zoom was also audible as you switched to Sony that moment.
