Sony A6000 Settings for Adapted Lenses

Check out this quick video tutorial of how to set up your Sony A6000 camera settings to work with adapted lenses. So you've got a Sony A6000 camera, you've got a vintage lens, you've even got the right adapter, you've got everything you need to shoot your masterpiece right...well almost. You still need to set your camera settings to work with these old adapted lenses. In this quick video we'll look at how to set your camera to work without a lens, turn on manual focus assist, set the focus magnification time, set your focus peaking level and color, and assign the focus magnification to a custom button. that will have you using your adapted gear in no time:)

Inspired by you I just got my a6000!! Would like a video with Canon EF lenses with auto focus adapter, fotga, comlite, fotasy and maybe K&F seem to be the cheap ones that do the job, neewer has one but tons of bad reviews, I'm looking into the fotga adapter

Thank you for all your videos - I have a a6000 and - since your channel - fell in love with vintage lenses! I have one question (which I guess is a bit obvious, but I will ask it nevertheless because someone out there might be much smarter and found a way to make it work): any chance I can use the sony mobile play app (= pushing the shutter with my iphone) while using a vintage lense or is that only possible with a modern lense (I know I wont be able to focus in the app, but at least releasing the shutter/taking a picture) would be fantastic... Hello, first, thank you much for making this amazing tutorial. Do you know if there is a way to keep these settings saved, but also separate, from settings you need when using AF lenses? Basically, is there an a6000 option that lets you store these settings so you don't have to keep changing them every time you switch from e-mount lenses with AF to these vintage lenses?

+lamarcy I've needed to do that video for a while, I hope it helped. These old manual lenses and dumb adapters do not send electronic info back to the camera, so enabling release w/o lens" gives the camera permission to release the shutter when there is no lens attached. Of course you'll have your Yashica attached, but your camera doesn't know that:)

So question? I was trying a fd lens out today in video mode but the I could not get the shutter out of auto or basically it seemed to be disabled for adjusting. It would not let me manually adjust the shutter while in video mode. Could the reason be that release without lens wasn't enabled? Does that play a part when trying to adjust the shutter speed on a manual vintage lens? Or better question can you manually adjust the shutter speed in video mode with a vintage lens? Thanks

+Kieren Taylor Hi there Kieran! Yes, the camera does not magnify by default, you actually need to set up a separate button to control that.

Is it possible to chose any aperture using the aperture ring on the lens or is it locked on the brightest stop? I mean, is it possible to shoot manually set 2.8 or f4 of f5.6 or the camera will.always read it as the brightest stop?

If you use a Manual lens , it wil not be recognized by the the camera so the shutter button will not work. Release without a lens enables the came to work with these lenses

@@wefhy I haven't checked but one thing that helped overall with tutorials is updating the firmware. If you make future videos, it might help to state what firmware you are running - def. affects which menu items are available.

+anuj bajracharya If you're using a manual lens you'll always need to set the aperture and focus yourself, regardless of shooting mode. You can set the camera to change ISO and shutter speed automatically. Hope that helps:)

When I use a lens adapter on my A6000, the “Focus Mode” is ghosted, and I can’t access it, it is locked in "Manual Focus". Is this normal? Because when I select "Focus Mode", I get the following Message, (even though the lens is attached correctly), it says: “!Lens Invalid because lens not attached, Attach the lens correctly.” Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong? Is this message normal? Somewhere I read that with manual lenses, I need to tell the camera the focal length, but I didn’t find the location to enter that info! Would appreciate your feedback, and thanks in advance.

+Steve Owen Hi Steve, having trouble recreating your problem with the a6000:( Have you tried restoring back to factory settings? Also, you could check your mode dial (PASM) make sure you're shooting in a manual mode...good luck:)
