Hi there, can you do a comparison when it is best to use RAW and JPEG in sony A6000? Can we achieve a quality that is closer to a RAW if the FINE is used? For hobbyist that doesn't want to edit RAW file. I hope that makes sense. Also, what is the difference when using Creative Style (ie. Portrait against a custom set using Aperture Priority) as opposed to the different mode in the dial? Thank you! looking forward to it!
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
RAW isn’t a higher quality photo per say. A JPEG will typically look better straight from the camera. Also if you only shoot jpeg and do slight edits there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I’d always use Fine, for the best quality JPEG. (Double check the manual to be sure) As for the creative styles, they’re somewhat akin to Lightroom presets. They have changed to sharpness, saturation? And contrast. Portrait creative mode is affected those three things, not aperture. However portrait in say, scene mode will probably change the aperture to suit a portrait better. 👍🏻

Great video series! Watching all the videos now for my new a6000. However, I got a question: Is there a way, so you dont have to keep the button pressed in Bulb mode? (I know it works with the smartphone app as a remote (and other remotes obviously) but maybe theres sth just with the camera I didnt think about :/)
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. However you can use shutter speeds of up to 30 seconds to achieve long exposures and that does NOT require you to hold down the button. In astrophotography I take 20 seconds exposures, and you just have to press the shutter once, then it stays open for 20 seconds and takes the photo. If you want it go be open longer than 30, you need to use bulb mode and hold it. Hope that helps!
@jonhtte5 жыл бұрын
@@kyletaggart Yeah, thank you for answering so often under you videos! I thought about getting just some tiny startrails, so 30sec wouldnt be enough. The view on TV mode. Does that work at the same time you’re taking the photos. Like a wireless teathering or is that a different mode? I want to be able to set up to see the pictures large as I’m shooting them. Ideally on my laptop when I’m in the field working but a tv would be cool at home. **what make up does your girlfriend sell? I used to sell Younique but always open to trying something new. Lol
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
my gf doesn't sell makeup, she's a makeup artist for weddings and a salon. Also I don't think you can use a tv as a viewfinder. The 6300 and above I think can, but not the a6000.
@colebco12485 жыл бұрын
hikyletaggart so viewfinder mode is what I need it on to see the photos on the laptop as I’m shooting? Is that a separate wireless thing I’ll have to buy or is that something that I just turn on? My images are often a little blurry but I think I’m shooting too fast for the camera to keep up. I seen your video about drivemode, I’m going to see if that helps at all. I have a model that moves too fast for me to keep up even on continuous shooting on fast shutter speed. I’m tired of missing shots so trying to figure out what I need to do beyond the normal manual changes. I only shoot on RAW for editing reasons.
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
@@colebco1248 if it's out of focus (shaky), it's shutter speed, or the focus point is not where it needs to be. faster shutter speed will freeze all motion. However that's less light, so you'll need to be aware of that. Also I am not super familiar with using a computer while shooting simultaneously. That's called "tethering" and is something ppl do in studio w/ models typically. I'd look up on how to do that, however it may not be an option with the a6000. I believe it's usually used as a review, after the shot is taken. Again though, image blur, is all shutterspeed, or your movement with the camera. Out of focus, is either too shallow depth of field, or focus area is incorrect.
@colebco12485 жыл бұрын
hikyletaggart I was shooting in a studio. I know I was shooting too quick for the lights to recharge but my “focus” is also not working fast enough. I don’t think it’s the shutter speed. I have a model that likes to move a lot during a shoot which makes for good photos BUT she moves out of the focus point. I try to have it on “Wide” to track her easier but it’s still not moving with her fast enough. When you explained the “drive” how you put your hand up and the camera changed to focus on your hand on the fast mode but not on the slow, I “think” that’s what’s going on but not sure. 🤷🏻♀️
@colebco12485 жыл бұрын
hikyletaggart they get just barely out of focus. I’ll shoot on slow continuous shutter release and two shots will be perfect and one will be blurred. It’s annoying. But I’m going to try to turn that up to the medium continuous too, to see if that helps. Just not sure how it would work in the studio with lights vs single shot. Up until this point all my work has been outdoors, I’m just now learning working with off camera flash and studio lights.

hi Kyle, i've a question which i haven't found the right answer so far. The Sony A6000 can film in MP4, AVCHD and XAVC S mode. Which has different frame rates, 24p ~ 60p, also 60i and whatever. Also you have to choose between PAL and NTSC in order to choose the frames rates (or a combination 24p/60p in NTSC or combination 25p/50p in PAL). I've no clue what this does to quality, and which mode is best for regular filming and which is best for slowmotion. Could you help me out? Didn't see any of this in your Sony A6000 videos.
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
no problem! PAL EU frame rates and NTSC is more US based. (there are more technical explanations but that is the gist). Also XAVCS will be the best quality. My last video (astrophotography) was shot in 24fps XAVCS. It's higher quality but also takes up more space. I have done a lot of videos in regular MP4 and it looks fine in my opinion (especially for KZbin). 24fps is the more cinematic frame rate, 60fps is a frame rate that looks more...realistic? and you can also slow it down to "slow mo". I actually don't know the diff between the "i" and "p". I always use 24p.

Which lens is the best for videography to get heigh quality
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
Depends what you want. Sigma 16mm f1.4 is great for low light and wide shots, however with the a6000 it has no image stabilization, and the lens doesn’t has stabilization, so for video you need smooth footwork and steady hands, or a gimbal. 18-105 is a nice all around video lens, it has stabilization, but it’s not great for low light at f4. Hopefully this gives you a good overview. 👍🏻

Followed all the steps when connecting to the camera’s network, but it just says “connecting” but doesn’t connect. I’ll give it a few more tries. Does my camera have to be connected to my wifi?
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
No, the camera creates a WiFi hotspot, so the beauty of it is you can do this even in the middle of the desert. It’s not a traditional internet hotspot, it’s just for camera to device file transfer.

What about 35mm

Little tight indoors, but like the 18-105 it has OSS, but has better lowlight at f1.8.

Hey, I have a pb with my wifi mode, even when I already set up the wifi and my a6000 recognized it, I can't use this TV visioning mode or send my photos to my smartphone either with my Sony a6000 (its like downoalind forever), anyone having the same bug?
@kyletaggart4 жыл бұрын
haven't used it recently myself, but, one thing to note is the app is now called Image Edge Mobile. Sony Play Memories is no longer the app to use.
@lealgrd74184 жыл бұрын
@@kyletaggart What do you mean by "the app"? I'm connecting my sony directly to my wifi through the wifi section in the menu, I need another app to make it work?
@Mm-ws9lf3 жыл бұрын
@@lealgrd7418 hello Léa, you need the App to download or copy your photos from your camera to the phone. Wifi is integrated in the camera which allows you to connect your phone to the camera.

3:27 Why you shouldn't use auto WB ;)
@MarinaGarrison4 жыл бұрын
Avalon There’s no reason not to use it (especially outside) but it is often wrong in mixed lighting situations where there are 2 or more light sources. If you are in a situation where you want all photos to be the same WB (or shooting video) it is better to set it manually.

Man, this video sure took a hit in quality. The WB is screwed up, you go from red face to green sickly face. Might want to do some colour grading and set a specific WB. Also, taking photos/videos of LCD screens is never a good idea. Your content is decent and rehearsed but it will take some work on the quality before you see a huge growth in subscribers.

Thanks for checking it out. I’m colorblind (red deficient) and really struggle with the color correcting. I need to learn how to do it right. 👍🏻

Feeling bad man... A6400 is coming.... with 4K, Mic Jack, Flip Out Display! :/

Yeah I think the a6000 will still have it's place. Will probably drop to $450-400 new price, and less than that used. Definitely still a great pickup!

The Sony A6400 was released, and you're still making A6000 videos until now. You're really milking it for all it's worth.
@kyletaggart5 жыл бұрын
What if you only have $500, and not $900? What if you don't need Animal Eye AF? What if you buy one of the best selling cameras from last year? What if you buy this used, for dirt cheap? What if this is the camera you have (like myself) and want to know more about it? I think you get the picture. Also, the video I released before this was about the a6400. I'm stoked for it too! Also the 6400 isn't out until February.
