I have to recommend your videos to anyone with a new A6600. They are the right length, the right depth, and the right pace, all usable information with no babbling.

Oh my gosh. I switched over to Sony this year and have been so bummed that I can't manually change my white balance like I did on my Canon, low and behold, you showed me that I freakin' can!!! So excited! It was the only thing I didn't prefer over Canon. Woot woot! Thanks!

Thanks for another great video. I have one question about DMF. I shoot mainly street and landscape photos and I wondering if DMF would be a good focus mode instead of wide. There isn't a lot of information on the web about the positive and negative reasons for using DMF. Thanks in advance.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick and thank you for the comments/ question! DMF is a great mode if you ever want to fine tune your focus after the camera locks it on. This is a different function though when compared to focus Area. Focus Mode vs Focus Area. You can still use wide focus area, but once the focus is locked, you can then turn the focus ring on the lens to fine tune the focus if you want. I really don't think it is necessary for most situations though. I only use it occasionally when the camera refuses to focus on what I want. This really only occurs for me when shooting close-up to stuff. Sometimes in my lab testing I will use it to fine tune when doing minimum focus distance tests for lenses as an example. Again, it really depends if you want to do that or not. It can't hurt trying out, so miles well give it a shot and play around with it for a few days to see what you think... I hope that helps, Jay

TY for videos. Traded in cannon dslr as going to Africa. Do you have videos That kind of walk you through Different scenarios? Example out shooting animals, in village shooting people or places? I could use help with settings for aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings? Thank you so much for these super helpful videos you have put out on the Sony a 6600. I bought a Tamron 18 to 300 mm for this trip. I am limited to 33 pounds

Hi Michelle and you are very welcome for the videos! I do not have a video like you are describing per say. I usually review lenses and then show you what they can do by sharing the sample photos and camera settings. With that being said you have an excellent camera and lens for the job! I would get a few extra batteries unless you know for sure you will be able to charge the camera battery easily. The basic rule of thumb I fallow for photography is this: For Landscapes I tend to go wider so in your case 18-35mm area with an aperture of f/8-f/11. I will use Auto ISO if I am hand holding so the shutter speed stays fast enough for a sharp shot, but if I am using a tripod I will lower the ISO as much as possible. For portraits of people in towns and villages, I would get pretty far away and zoom in to 300mm for the portrait if possible. That would yield excellent separation from your subject to the background. I would leave the aperture at the lowest f-stop number for the portraits. Group shots I would treat more like a landscape though. If you are close to your subject, then 300mm will not works, so just zoom till it looks good to you. I would try to find people pre-posed if possible with the faces side lit for maximum dimension and character detail captured. This way you are not asking people to pose if you know what I mean? Anyway I hope that helps and be safe out there!

Jay is there a way to set up the a6600 tor multi function, by this i mean set a button for shooting birds and another one foe landscapes, so all i have to do is touch on the button to switch between the two thanx ric

You can use the Memory Recall for that purpose. Note on the mode dial how it has a 1 and 2... See here: helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1940/v1/en/contents/TP0002647359.html?search=memory%20recall

Slightly off topic question; When I'm using a manual lens, the magnification button doesn't allow me to punch in to fine tune my focus. I haven't been able to find a way to make that work. Is there a way? Thank you. Great video BTW!

Hey, I want to purchase an Apsc camera, I have 3 options, first is zv-e10 at 720 dollar with kit lens, second is a6600 body only at 790 dollar, and rhird is a6400 at 850 dollar with kit lens. Which one I should buy.
@Jason_Hermann
@Jason_Hermann 2 ай бұрын
Well the A6600 has the Sensor Stabilization and is the heaviest camera. The A6400 is lighter weight, no sensor stabilization but also has the viewfinder which is great for really bright conditions when you can't see the lcd scree. The ZV-ZE10 is the most basic model with no evf or sensor stabilization. Image quality is nearly identical on all three cameras though. I like the larger battery in the A6600 out of these 3 cameras, because it's far better than the smaller battery in the A6400 and ZV-E10, but if using in studio you can get a dummy battery which is how I use my ZV-E10 in my studio for the overhead rig. I hope that helps?

Using that feature, you basically set the camera however you want and then register those settings to a memory slot. MENU → (Camera Settings1) → [ / Memory] → desired number. You can then turn the mode dial to that number and the camera will recall your saved settings.
