SONY a6600 Settings for Shooting Sports and Action by Patrick Murphy-Racey

Sony a6600 settings for sports photography, photojournalism, and portrait photography. Each new camera that comes out, I make a video that shows how I would use it to shoot sports. There are many things that are not obvious about shooting sports and the settings required to get good results. I hope these are helpful to some of you that might be struggling. - pm-r:)

Great video. Just purchased my first Sony ( a6600 and 70 350 lens) and it's shipping right now, so thought I'd start learning about focus modes and menus before it shows up. Went to check out your other videos and I see you are a motorcycle guy, and in particular V-strom. I'm on my third Strom and have had one on the garage while other bikes came and went since my '05. Bikes are a huge reason I got into photography between landscape and motorsports. For a number of years now I've been carrying a Nikon D5600 with 70-300 lens in my tankbag ready to go. And while not ideal for wildlife it's what I have with me when the Bobcat crosses the road, and more and more I've realized some of my best wildlife shots have been from that set up. Not to mention some impromptu panning on passing bikes. One problem, the autofocus is quite frankly pretty bad for what I need, and I've missed some epic action shots because the keeper rate was so low. Really hope this Sony/lens is the ticket to a much higher keeper rate, and maybe a switch in camera systems if I'm impressed. Just wanted to post a comment to say HI as I'm guessing you'd understand some of my priorities

I think you will find the a6600 and the 70-350 will do great for you. With 11 fps, it will really help you to get multiple images before animals disappear... I just sold my Strom after replacing it with a Super Tenere. Mystery main bike is the R1200GSA and so I really wanted to have a similar machine for my riding out West. That little vtwin was so strong though!!! You could just keep winding it up, it seemed... I'll miss it but my wife says only two bikes...

@@PMRTV Not as good as I would've liked to. I had a problem with the a6600 autofocusing as quickly as my Canon from person to person. Not sure if I just need to get used to it or it's slower because I am using a Viltrox adapter with my Canon lenses.

I am using this camera for in water surf photography and from the beach with zoom. I think I’m just having troubles with the auto focus settings I will try this setting.

Thanks for your tutorial. It's really helpful. I am think to buy one more Sony Camera for sport photography. May I ask how's the AF performance between A9 in APS-C mode and A6600?

PYIPF ... ah, no way! the AF-performance of the a 9/a9 II ist out of this world, more than twice as good as the a6600 ... 👍

Appreciate the video. Would really be helpful if you remember people are following along most likely w/ camera in hand, so changing your mind and switching rapidly back and forth among menus is perhaps not the best approach for followers. Got through it nonetheless, so thanks.

Thanks, it is pretty much what I used on the A6400 so here is the question: the A6400 is actually pretty good for surf photography, but there is shutter lag and perhaps even EVF, how fast does the A6600 respond in comparison to the A9? Tried the A9 and A9II today: both beast and Beast + but prefer APS-C because even 600mm is not always enough with surf photography. TL;DR: Is the A6600 as responsive as the A9? With the A6400 I'm missing moments and have to shoot sequences starting a second before the action starts: instagram.com/scheveningen.surf/
