The only guy I've found on freaking KZbin that seems to recognize not everyone has $2000 to drop on a new camera. I have been waiting for this video comparison for so long, and while I have used both cameras, I still struggled to figure out which one I wanted; however, my results were similar. Canon EOS RP has quicker autofocus, and less noise albeit less dynamic range. It also feels much more comfy in the hand.

Watched a video of a youtuber - and I am not hating on him, which is why I don't write up his name - and he was like "The most important thing is to go out and make fotos, the camera is not important at all.". Meanwhile he was taking pictures with a € 3000,- Camera ^^. I mean I understand that they want to encourage people not to stop, just because they do not have top gear, but come on, at one point, you want your photos to look better and it is only so far, some cameras can go. I took some shots, which were looking good on the small screen of the camera, but when I looked at them on my PC, I nearly lost my mind because of all the noise on them, they were ruined. So yeah, but still, the youtubers are all helping a lot, very motivating people and very ambitious to help others, I like that a lot.

@@natbrownizzle3815 Well, I don't know the youtuber you are talking of, so it's not a direct response on him and his Gear. I guess the cost of his equipment is not the point as far as he shoot it and it brings out good results. I could bring you the example of @Noealz, which has recently acquired a medium format fuji, but keeps telling "whatever you have is good enough", and I belive he's honest in telling that. Sometime your equipment fails and you have to replace it: we must not judge what someone gets as far as it does not become a "fetish purchase"; everyone is free to spend the money they earn as they see fit. He's been using an X100 original for a long time, then he gifted it to one of his students in Seul, then used an X-pro original with vintage Lenses. For paid jobs (usually timelapses) he's been using a 5D MkIII, buit it was so battered and damaged that he had to replace it. Same with is infrared converted camera, which failed. The guy also used a Iphone 7 for almost 6 months for his own streaming and night picture to prove the point that "you can use what you have". Many people are into "vintage lenses and go to great extent to get some particular glass, but' that's not because they think they'll get better images, but rather for collecting purposes: I got my RP 2 days ago, because I wanted a FF sensor for my vintage lenses, but I could not focus them reliably with my "inherited" 5D MkII. Is it the best camera? No. Does it matters? it does not, because it takes good pictures and solved me a problem I had. My best image was taken win an e-PL6 and a kit lens: I wish I'll get something as good with this FF!

There are great photographers who can take amazing pictures with let's be hones, shit and good for nothing cameras, but I am not a great photographer so I think I make the mistake every rookie makes, which is to believe that it is the Jordans who will make me play better ball and not myself learning the fundamentals first. My copy of a7II produced heavy moire pattern/distortion on the video. I sent my copy to the official Sony repair centre in Australia in 2015 and the response I got back was that I should have purchased a camcorder model such as FDR-AX700 or PWX-X70 if I wanted to focus on videography. The official Sony repair centre offered me a 40% discount voucher for my next purchase which meant that they acknowledged the issue but couldn't really do anything about the specific product. I am using the RP now and I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the video that comes out of it in terms of the distortion, the colour, and the CODEC and format it uses.

Old video and the comment is late, but one thing that I'd like to add is that Sony's A7 II was the first mirrorless fullframe to have 5-axis in-body stabilization, which for low light portraits, street and landscape gives you a great advantage of not having to use a tripod, even on lenses that don't have OSS / IS. This was my deciding factor when I was choosing for my full frame (RP vs 7II) and before picking up the Sony, I was a Canon user with two cameras (EOS 550D/Rebel T2i and EOS M100) for 11 years (and I still have those cameras today together with the Sony)

I found out just a few weeks ago (8/2023) that the 4k on the RP is a good option if (1) you can go wide enough and (2) you do not need fast reliable AF, but only sloooow reliable focus on slooooow moving subjects. Using the EF 4 16-35 L IS I like to have Ultrawide for FullHD which can be used in 4k projects but I also have a ~28...60mm equiv lens for 4k with rich detail. So I postponed to replace the RP and work with it alongside the R7 (with EF 100-400 ii, a gorgeous lens). EDIT: By the way: Good video, just three years later!

I worked with an A7II for 2 years back in the days, the A7II autofocus is good only in the middle of the frame and there is a setting to enable the viewing of such area. Also its video was very bad and moiry, the a6300 kicked it out of the water at any mode. What I recommend to a newcomer is to get the A7 Mk1 to save up or the Mk3 for a good performing camera, also does the RP really have such bad battery life? the A7II required me to carry 5 extra batteries in winter, with the new A7III 1 battery = 6 intense hours
@Seitenwerk4 жыл бұрын
I use the RP for events and wedding and it sometimes worked with a single battery for the whole day. But it heavily depends on how you use it. Switching to eco mode will turn if the displays only Andre seconds after you stopped using it (and turn everything back on the moment you press a button) this will save a huge amount plus only using the viewfinder will also increase battery life. I would say around 800 pictures are possible on a single charge. I am currently using 3 batteries just to make sure but in general only need 2 when it comes down to a full wedding shoot

For Canon, i'm happy with the picture i got straight from my EOS R (i'm ended with EOS R, not RP because the dynamic range isn't that good). But hey, you should try Sony A7C. It really made flash photography a pain until I figured out what the camera was doing. By turning off live view effect it kept the lens wide open like a dslr and worked much better. I also discovered that eye AF only works in AF-S on the A7ii. The A7Rii (that’s 2 not 3) is only a few hundred more expensive than the RP and you get 42 Mp, much improved AF, eye detect in AF-C and twice as many PD points, and get to keep that sweet lens. The RP is also a noticeable step down in IQ where the R2 is a major step up. I can look up exactly what I disabled if you want.

It's not the cost of the body....as much as the cost of RF lenses after canon has banned third party. I know there's the EF adapter, I own one and it's great. But there's now several neat sigma and Tamron lenses that will only be available for Sony and Nikon. So once everything is factored in, I feel like Sony might be a better long term investment. And that's coming from a canon guy who's never owned a Sony.

I use RF and EF L lenses and RP makes great pictures still up to now. The only thing I think missing is animal AF since it tend to incorrect focus until I touch to correct. I am still debating going to 20mp R6 ...R6 has better dynamic range but I seldom shoot that far off range..5 stops? ... don't care about dual card slot cause I never need that to begin with...coming from shooting film. R5 is a over kill and the price is high as well...I rather spend on lens now since lens keep value long term. I will probably get R5 only a year or two from now when price drops on used market.

@@ayayoutuber I wont argue about how good R5 or R6 are. All I am saying is that in 2019, Canon presented a camera that was at the same level with a Sony 2014 camera! Hi, I am a hobby pgotographer. I am thinking of upgrading to the RP from my heavy canon EOS 6D. I need something more portable. The main issue holding me back is the battery life stories I heard about. I tend to turn my cam off in between shots or situations either way, but was wondering if its a huge issue on the RP in reality. Also I take many night portrait shots using city lights, so being able to pull shadows etc. Would be nice, is the dynamic range decent enough?
@HyunRalphJeong Жыл бұрын
Hello. The battery life is definitely worse than the 6D, but it's still quite manageable in my opinion. But if you want better dynamic range, I'd recommend the Canon R8. The RP isn't much of an upgrade from the 6D in that regard.
