My Process of getting to know each setting in the camera :) : Just Notes up to 24 minutes. Working on completing the whole video. Thought this might help someone. A7IV Menu Set to Video Mode Set to Manuel My Menu Settings: This will allow customization of the P1,2,3 and the ***Red Shooting “Icon”*** **1 Image Quality** File Format > Select XAVC S 4K Movie Settings > Rec Frame Rate 24p >Record Setting >100M 4:2:2 10 Bit S&Q Settings > Used to slow down footage in your camera. Matt Suggests that we slow it down in our Video Software. Proxy Settings > a separate video to set these as this will save time in your post production APS- C S35 Shooting > 1.5x : > Auto 1. aps -c lens 2. Just want to zoom in with a full frame lens on a subject. Breathing Compensation> Native Sony Lens use with these. 1. **Format Menu** Record Media Settings > Simult. Recording Auto Switch Media > On This is going to make sure if you don’t have two memory cards it will still record 1. File Settings > Series ( Leave it at that) File Name Format > Standard ( can be useful to use “title” once in awhile. 1. **Shooting Mode > M Mode** 2. **USB Streaming > New for Sony Camera’s >** 7. **Release w/o lens > Enable: Non Native Lens with no electronic connection:** 1. **Variable shutter Mode > on** Anti Flicker settings> Variable Shutter Mode > On Variable Shutter Set > Helps when flickering lights This helps to use shutter Angle when there are such things as flickering lights. Temp./ Filter (K) Dial in your white balance (5000K) Shockless WB > 3 (slow) Exposure/Color > Color/Tone> D-Range Optimizer > off Creative Look > Standard Picture Profile > PP8 > S Log 3 Soft Skin Affect > off Zebra Display > On Zebra Level > 94 Plus Custom Focus > AF/MF > Focus Mode > Continuous AF > AF Transition Speed (going to rack focus from one thing to another when it changes focus) Play around with this setting to see what looks good to you. 3 is Matt Johnson’s choice >AF Subj. Shift Sensitivity (This is going to set how sticky the autofocus of the A7IV is) If you want your camera to focus on an object or person and stay stuck on it, 3 is the best (if you find your autofocus looks to jumpy, lower down to one or two >AF Assist (if you turn it on, you can adjust the manual focus ring on your lens at anytime and that will override the autofocus and adjust the focus manually) By default leave it turned off. >Focus Area > Wide >Focus Area Limit > Leave it be because we set the A7IV to wide >Face/Eye Priority in AF > On ( your going to be able to set priority of whether you want the camera to prioritize focusing on faces or eyes vs just peoples bodies) >Face/Eye Subject > Human >Right/Left Eye Select > Auto (if you are filming at a very specific angle right/left eye you have this option) >Face/Eye Frame Disp.> On (which is going to make a nice little white box appear around the subjects eyes whenever you are filming.) You will be able to tell at a glance that your footage is properly focused) >Regist. Face Priority > Focus > Focus Assistant > Focus Map > off ( Clear : means its in focus ; Blue means that’s out of focus in the background: Red Means that its out of focus in the foreground)  This helps with focus if you are pulling focus : Leave off after initial use >Focus > Focus Assistant> Focus Magnifier > No Limit (Let you zoom in on anything that your filming, to make sure its in focus for focus magnification, time limit set to no limit. >Focus > Focus Assistant> Initial Focus Mag. > x4.0 >Focus > Peaking Display> Off (peaking is really useful if you are manually focusing and you want to be able to know if your footage is in focus or not)> (Then set your peaking level (mid) > Peaking Color > White

A request for future new Sony camera setup guides: please tell us where the overheating setting is at the beginning of the video. My new a7iv kept overheating while I was adjusting settings while watching this video until I got far enough into it to learn how to set to the higher limit. Took me a good hour to go through your 40 minute video. Otherwise, I find your videos helpful and easy to understand. Please keep up the good work!

It’s the same thing, but a7siii has a high base ISO and shoots 4K 120fps. The a7iv shoots 4K 60fps but with a 1.5x crop.

Matt doing well with the A7iv but have been shooting both pic's and videos of my sons band and can't find anything online as far as the comparrison between the mics that are on the camera and a shot gun mic like the rhode video mic pro. I shot a show recently with the on camera mics and it sounded pretty good. I used to always use my shot gun mic with my D5 and was never really knocked out by the sound quality. Maybe there isn't much call for this kind of comparison, but in your experiance have you had good luck with the on cameras mics. thanks

Hey. I wouldn’t recommend using the on-camera mic for any professional work. The mic quality is very flat. I can recommend the Sony ECM-M1 (but it’s pricey, so if you aren’t doing much professional work, you may be able to do without it).

I'm still using my sony A7iii and upgrading the 120fps @1080 to 4k in post, but I'm going to get the Sony A7Siii AND keep my sony A7iii for my b camera AND for photos!

Hi Matt, I tried following your settings for my Sony a7iv but my Shutter Speed doesn’t show let’s say 1/50 but 50.0. Whenever I use the dial to adjust the shutter, it just adjusts the number like goes to 100+. How can I change this so I can have the normal Shutter Speed numbers?

It means the lens is made for a crop sensor camera and the full frame equivalent lens would be 31.5mm

Hi, I followed the instructions in the pdf, but in the end it says "This file can not be loaded". Could it possibly have anything to do with me using a German version? I think there are two versions of the A7IV, one for the EU (including German language) and one for the rest of the world (still including most languages, even some EU languages such as French and Spanish, but not German).

I am just curios, why dont you shoot iv the highest Bitrate ( 240, in 24fps) but in 100 ? SI the image really good enough for grading etc. in that B-Rate?
