I've been out of work for a couple months now and a few weeks ago I applied for a job at Sony. As a requirement I had to research alot of their cameras, most importantly these two cameras in your review. You gave clear descriptions to the overall performance of the camera and the pros and cons and I was able to learn alot from this video. Wanted to say thank. I got the job.

Jason Vong I feel kinda bad for jumping on the a7riii so quick :( it’s honestly performed better than anything I’ve ever owned.. but the lowlight on the a7iii and price is hard to not be bothered if you bought the a7riii T.T
@LePixelRacer6 жыл бұрын
William Tang I thought the same but I use mine as a professional and I can tell you it's so much more versatile. That resolution is so high I could even crop in landscape out of a portrait oriented image and it still get a 20+mpx result. That resolution is amazing. And the evf is way better too, higher resolution and framerate which is a game changer on these hybrid cameras. And I can use any type of lens because crop mode is still high res. Being able to get a very high res 42mpx picture to print posters is great considering I'm doing fashion portraits and landscape photography for exposition. The only thing that bothers me about the less expensive a7III is the low light capabilities which are better than my very expensive R. Still I shot a wedding party indoor @iso 10000 and got very solid shots. Do I need more? I don't think so I hardly need to push farther than 6400 and the results are great. At this day and age, one can push iso as far as needed without thinking twoce about it. Last but not least I need something that would last long enough because I use it on a daily basis and shoot a lot with it. 500k shutter count is much much better than 200k which is pretty entry level. There are many other better things on the R that counts even though the regular one has more focus points and higher 4k quality, in real world usage I've never been in trouble getting a shot because of not having enough focus points (It has so much than my former Canon camera anyway) and that 4k footage quality is already amazing too. If I could give you an advice, just know that you have the best option with the R. It's more expensive for a reason. Don't get me wrong, A7III is definitely amazing. But we get the very best mark III series with the R. If money isn't the issue then the R is still a better choice. Especially for pros.
@williamtang21706 жыл бұрын
jonathan didier anaclet thank you so much for your reply and input!! It definitely makes me feel much better about the purchase. I definitely feel like it’s an amazing machine, the only thing i wish we could have more of was the low light capabilities the a7iii offers. Regardless, I do feel VERY content with the R.
@LePixelRacer6 жыл бұрын
William Tang you are very welcome. I felt just like you when the a7III came out. I was like why did I buy the R so fast? But I learned to be happy with my gear. I'm fine now. I mean I had the money to purchase the R and I got one amazing camera so why being mad over the base model! The R is definitely the high end of the III series. Be it for the amazing resolution and detail you get out of it and the many great features. I love it! Worth. every. penny. 😎 Regards. Jon

@JamesZhan6 жыл бұрын
First one was faulty eye-AF. The eye-AF is always front or back focusing; the store's service department confirmed it was faulty on the spot. The replacement for that got a stuck shutter on the 3rd day of use (wasn't even using continuous shooting). And now I'm waiting for the replacement for the replacement haha. Sad face!

Jason, now that the Sony A7RIII is down to $2498 (since the announcement of the A7RIV, or about 1800-1900 used with less than 4000 shutter count, I already purchased the A7III and it is working well. I have been wondering about a second body (I also shoot wildlife, have the Sigma 150-600mm w/MC-11 adapter) - thinking about the A7rIII now that the price has been nicely reduced, as well as waiting for the Sony A6600 which would use the same battery but give me the 1.5 crop with the lenses I have. Not a professional, just an interested amateur. (lenses: Sony 35 FE 1.8, Sony 85mm f1.8, Tamron 17-28mm f2.8, Tamron 28-75mm f2.8) Thoughts?

Good job on the video. Most of us know how good the series 3 improvements are but I think what many people, including myself, are interested in is a much more detailed side by side comparison of the image quality between the 2 bodies. You touched on it a little but I'd love to see a shoot out of several different kinds of shoots and a side by side comparison between the 2 while using the exact same settings (portraits, landscapes, events etc). Most youtubers say "you'll know if you need 42mp" but what about those who just aren't sure? I suspect that many people are filling up their hard drives with 42mp monsters and aren't shooting for large prints. I think it would make for a great topic. I think you're the person to finally get this info to us, Jason!

Hello. I am extremely torn between these two cameras right now. I am a freelancer who shoots a lot of different genres - events, real estate, interiors, portraits, sports, weddings, depending on the projects I get. But, my favourite style of photography is wildlife, always has been. I have recently got into video as well, for my commercial projects only. The reason I'm torn is because I know that the A7III is more than enough for any 'work' that I'll be doing in the near future. However, I still love wildlife photography and birds, and feel like the extra resolution or effective reach from the A7RIII could be crucial in situations. I don't normally print very large though, do make some prints here and there. The first lens I'll be buying for my Sony camera is the Tamron 28-75, since that'll get me started with most of my work. I will buy a telephoto lens later for wildlife. The difference between the two cameras is about $700 in my country. I could spend that money on a gimbal or some other lens or accessory. I would consider myself a semi-professional right now and am coming from APS-C. So, as a multi-genre photographer and videographer who's also into wildlife, which camera would be the right one for me? Sorry if I have jumped between several points, its just I really can't decide which one to get.

I am renting both of these cameras for a week(!!) for a combination vacation and relative's wedding shoot... I definitely am loving everything about the A7III, BUT it's REALLY HARD to give up those killer 42 Megapixels when it comes to the ultimate in portrait or engagement photos!!! The best quality 4K of the A7III is a huge bonus, BUT the weaker-rez'd screen DOES get on my nerves at times!! Darn You Sony, you make me want to have BOTH cameras!! #EvilSony :( ;)
