There was delays when a7 III came out, people was hunting for that camera. But in Dubai, UAE it was available without any pre-orders, no demand for a7III, a7r 3 and 4 and same will be for SIII. Conclusion, you need camera, come to Dubai :D

Pre-orders started at 7AM Eastern Standard Time. I finished my Pre-order at 7:01AM 😊 But, I kind of wish to change the order to the package deal with the CfExpress card. I don't want to mess with my order though.

The external monitor is a game changer - if we can get HDMI 2.1 bandwidth output, 8K overheating is solved in the next R5 iteration

I really want to be able to plug in my a6300 and have WINDOWS recognize it as a webcam source via usb or micro HDMI. Then I could just have it natively supported in Microsoft Teams or Zoom, I don't know how to send OBS to Teams

I Just happened to receive that Pro Support email the second it came and filled out right away. Plus, i was hitting refresh the morning of the pre-release and had my order submitted and credit card authorization number within the first 10 seconds of 10am. Cant wait to create S.Cinetone picture profile and will share the settings (wont charge for them like EOSHD does on their Canon color science picture profile settings)..

If the cards in the R5 are heating up without being used, there might be a possibility to improve the situation just by software. This might be something like the driver is constantly checking and preparing the cards to be ready to stream with high speed. To me, this looks like the R5 is taking a lot of shortcuts and tricks to be able to stream the 8k RAW to the cards. Part of this might be to do as much as possible preemptive. So the camera is constantly checking and preparing just in case.

@@marioslrzn I think about settings where you can disable high speed writing to cards and the driver can go to sleep until you really want to start recording the heavy stuff. It is possible, that the amount of communication between camera software and card can be reduced massively in idle mode and the developers just didn't know how much heat this generates.

That's insane... so the camera isn't necessarily overheating it's the cards that are overheating. That's a wild find.

That is a major advantage of Sony. They make SD and CFExpress cards and likely tested the A7S III with their own cards. That and they have been fighting against overheating for years.

Robert M nobody has tested high bit rates on Sony A7siii yet, and you can only write those to the cfexpress A card so nobody knows if that is going to cause heating issues....remember reviews were not allowed to record high bit rates and I think Sony did the right thing by doing low bitrates and by the time it comes out high bit rates it’s going to be on an atomos so no heating issues. Canon needs to drop the bit rates to SD limit. If they did that, I think a lot of people would switch back, but it’s canon 😂 they’re not going to do it

JARO_96 true but let's be honest...I don't think most students are/should be buying the A7s iii unless they're making money doing video production. In which case the discount doesn't matter much.

Steven Useda most schools are closed telling students to relay on their cameras. Students have low incomes and having this type of camera could be useful for them to start making money... if the discount was exploited by non students then there is a problem... at the end of the day it will probably come back once they hype dies ...

JARO_96 coming from someone who is a student I don't think that is entirely accurate. Schools aren't telling us to "rely on cameras" and as well, if a student is capable of making money with filmmaking then they don't specifically need the A7s iii. Not to mention that in this pandemic, business is slow and a $3000 usd camera purchase really isn't the best investment for 99% of students just to get better video quality. Much better to use what you have or pick up an a7iii on discount. There are plenty of cameras "good enough" to make money with, because at the end of the day it's the persons skills, not the camera that matters.

Steven Useda Sure thing might not be the best investment but the discount is there to support the students. The school thing I was referring to my school who was stated that this semester’s production clases will not have gear and we would have to use our cellphones or DSLR’s also throwing money at any camera as student is pretty much pointless... might as well invest in the best one out there!!

I really don't get the point of testing a camera to see if it overheats with no memory cards in it!. Unless your live streaming nobody is ever going to use a camera with no memory cards as it's quite literally pointless!. Okay so caviate the only point I can see to doing that test which could be helpful is to show for some utterly crazy reason canon has designed a camera that only runs for a usable length of time without overheating if there is no memory cards in the camera, which literally literally renders the camera utterly useless!. It would be like sitting in a car going oh yea look the engine runs for hours while having no wheels on the car and not moving anywhere!. In my opinion a completely pointless test, or another annology say daylight heat & this hypothetical specific cars headlights make a car's engine overheat. It would be like doing a test in the car at night and saying oh look I can drive the car for hours with NO headlights again literally pointless nobody is ever going to intentionally drive a car at night with no headlights!.

The only reason to ever have memory cards while recording externally is if you want to record a photoshoot, but most people just set up a second camera for that anyway.

@@robertm3951 hey sorry yea of course I totally forgot about recording externally of course ya that's a huge glaring aspect as to why someone would use a camera without memory cards in somehow I totally forgot that! My original comment I was going on the pov of just using the camera, didn't even think of an external monitor tbh because there so expensive. But having said that the R5 is so expensive maybe I dont know it's okay to assume many of the people in the market for this camera would already have an external monitor I don't know, I never like to assume really but ya. Great point thanks ya I dunno how I forgot about monitors!. If his findings are actually correct though it's pretty bad that canon has built a camera that can't function properly with memory cards in for a usable amount of time. Just personally I'd expect it to work perfectly without the need for expensive extra equipment (apart from memory cards & lens, filters, microphone) especially as the R5 with a lens costs £6000 which is over $9000USD!!!!!

Jay T. why is it laughable? - quite a lot of the people who wanted this camera wants to use an external monitor anyway which in most cases mean using a rig - so if this solves long recording it is a game changer for them - for me I mostly want to work without an external monitor when I do both stills and film so I hope they can get a shorter recovery time when recording to extreme or sd cards but I’m not to sure this changes thing for my optimal case - I might be where I was with me gh5 only with a much better still camera and a very high quality 4K 25fps - and if I want the best I have to plan better and do very short takes - I never expected very long recording times in all the high end recording settings - only the internal recording time in 4K 50 fps might be my frustration point if they don’t make the recovery time shorter
