Inside Picture, select Ambient Optimisation Pro, under that menu, check if Ambient light sensor is preset to 'On'. I installed the TV today and was just frustrated with the picture until I set the Ambient light sensor to 'Off', PQ just dramatically changed from ordinary to brilliant! For those who are on the fence, the Sony X95L 85 inch is outrageously jaw-dropping, mouth-watering, I'm at a loss of qualitative adjectives, seriously. Watching Dolby Vision is no short of mesmerizing. An absolute 10 out of 10 for HDR, Dolby Vision contents. 85 inch does matter in giving the picture cinematic 3D realistic look and depth. The colour, the contrast, the black level, insanely good. I'm happy I decided for this one over A95L. Since I don't see any shortcoming whatsoever with X95L (may be the only minor but negligible issue that the screen does reflect some light), I'm finally able to settle on it after long quest for TV with best PQ and for home cinema experience. It's a one time buy, expensive yes, but totally worth it IMHO.

As an ex-photographer's (5 years) and ex-cable TV tech (23 years), this is my opinion. It is truly the best. The definition and color range is so good, you actually perceive a depth in the image. You can see the different objects in that flat image, but your brain can realistically distinguish which one is in front of the others. You almost want to reach out and touch something inside the image. It's not a full 3D image, but it feels like it has a discernable depth. That slight "you can touch me", perception takes LED to a whole new level.

On the whole eARC thing, I think it makes sense to use an HDMI 2.1 port because it allows you to use one of the several HDMI 2.1-compatible receivers and then have several extra ports. At this price tier, I think we’re looking right at a demographic who’d be likely to use such a setup.
@Jojken Жыл бұрын
My thinking too. However I haven´t seen any video confirming that all HDMI 2.1 functions will pass through the newest receivers. @Sas-wk9lj Жыл бұрын
As per my experience goes, you need to be almost 11' to 12' away from the 85 inch panel to feel the sharpness and depth in picture. For 2.35:1 aspect ratio movies and video games, you can afford to sit nearer. The TV series 16:9 content with face close-ups can look oddly big if you are sitting close to the TV like about 6-7 feet. That may be taken as a pro or con depending on how big your room is and how willing you're to sit 11 feet away from the TV (it'll be as good as buying 77 inch or 65 inch TV and sitting 6-7 feet away from the screen to get the same effect). The real question is with anamorphic aspect ratio in the case of most of the movies, we often don't quite able to get that comfort in viewing with smaller screens. My thumb rule is if you're planning to watch movies 90% of the time, consider bigger panels. If for general content with occasional movies, 65 to 77 inch should be okay. Hope this helps. As far as the quality goes, QD-OLED is superior PQ than mini led for most of the contents with one drawback of shadow crush as unlike in mini led which has better' shadow details at the cost of little less contrast and slight lack of depth in picture. But don't take it as a general trend, for some contents mini led excels, in other qd-oled does.
@Sas-wk9lj Жыл бұрын
One drawback of mini led however is in total dark room, you'll notice some blooming if you're 1) consciously looking for it 2) in picture with flat dark grey screen that sometimes momentarily appears just before the movie or just before the show is about to start. This could be annoying when you spent 4-5 grands for a TV. In OLEds you won't obviously get this issue. But to be fair, shadow crush with patch of black in the face's shadow area or in the back of the hair or in the background is equally frustrating in QD-OLED/OLEDs.

I actually disagree that making the eARC port one of the 4k 60 ports is the best idea. There are a lot of soundbars and receivers now that support 8k 60 or 4k 120 with ALLM and VRR with many more HDMI ports that can handle those formats such as my Marantz Cinema 40. So if Sony moved eARC to a port that could only do 4k 60 that would severely limit the usefullness of the HDMI's on my receiver. The only real solution that would be best for everyone would be for MediaTech to finally build an SOC with 4 x 48GBps ports or Sony should dump them and use whatever LG and Samsung are using for their HDMI SOC.
@LeezahB Жыл бұрын
I wondered if relegating the eARC to the lower/slower ports would be a good idea with the advent of new AVRs and soundbars.
@Jojken Жыл бұрын
My thinking too. However I haven´t seen any video confirming that all HDMI 2.1 functions will pass through the newest receivers. Because I wonder if the RXs need the same (at least) or to future proof better MORE HDMI 2.1 functions than the TV. I am talking about ALLM, QMS, BFI etc. etc. (just to name a few). Can anyone answer this?
@michaelbeckerman7532 Жыл бұрын
With all the terrible backlash MediaTek caught this past year for changing their announced plans for the Pentonic 1000 at the LAST MINUTE, you KNOW they are working as fast as they can to create a version of that SoC that incorporates 4 HDMI 2.1 (48Gbps) ports. Keep in mind here that LG and Samsung develop their processors internally so they have more flexibility on their feature set and build-out. However, the "Secret Sauce" for Sony's processors has always really been in their algorithms. A processor is only as good as the code that is executed inside of it. Sony's greatest strength, and what has ALWAYS set them apart from all their competitors is their understanding of color science and their ability to write the best, most effective code to run inside of their TV processors. As was made abundantly clear by the folks over at RTings a few weeks ago, Sony's processing is head and shoulders above and beyond any other TV manufacturer out there today. It's one thing to design hardware that can match what Sony does. It's an entirely other thing though to try and match them with the software and AI tech that runs INSIDE of that hardware. As we have seen more than a few demonstrations of over the past five years now though, Sony is simply in a class by themselves when it comes this. And, at least so far, no one else have even managed to get close.

Also I kind of had to laugh at the look on your face when you mentioned getting mail that you didn’t want people to know what it was, not of COURSE that I have experienced anything like THAT!! Anyway, here are a couple of quick questions: 1) What size is this TV? 77inch?Sorry have no sense of scale and couldn’t tell. 2) If you still have the A95K, can you possibly use the A95L’s remote with the K to see if it works, particularly the dedicated KZbin button? Please?😜🥰❣️ I have been wanting to get the 77 inch A95L all along, but after this review I really REALLY want it!! Hopefully the DV thing gets ironed out quickly! I WILL have to wait to get the L (due to finances), but once I do, I will move the 65 inch “K” up into my bedroom to replace the 55 inch “blob” tv currently there! In the meantime, I was hoping to at least get the new remote if it works to tide me over. I watch a lot of KZbin and really would make great use of the dedicated KZbin button if it works with the “K”. Excellent and fun review, Caleb!! I so respect your inserting the update about the DV issue, plus it was very smoothly done. Thanks so much!! Going to check out some merch now!🥳 P.S. A good Sound bar cost around $700 or more. Therefore by buying this particular TV and not buying a sound bar. I just removed this argument. I have owned LG's and Samsung TV's. I had issues with both brands. Here is what I know. My relative has worked in Sales at Appliance stores for 30 years. He told me the sales staff he knows have told him Sony is the best Brand TV to buy which is partly why Sony's are expensive. Secondly I was in a Best Buy one day in the Magnolia room. A customer looking at TV's told me he works for a video processing company. He told me Sony TV's video processing is better than Samsung and LG. I plan on buying this particular TV 65 inch model. Currently Amazon has it for $3000. I am hoping to try and get it under $3000 likely around Black Friday.

@Caleb_Denison Жыл бұрын
When you say intermittently, are you saying this happens in the middle of watching content? Or does it happen at startup, and then stabilizes? If the TV is switching back and forth, the most likely cause would be a drop-out of the EDID, which flags to the TV that an external sound source is connected via HDMI. That wavering signal flag could be caused by a number of things, the most likely of which would be the Dragon, a faulty cable, or a cable that doesn’t comply with HDMI 2.1 (though that should not be necessary, I’ve found it sometimes is). The least likely, but still possible, issue would be the Mediatek SOC in the Sony TV. If that were the case, Sony would certainly want to iron it out, but it’s then possible that Sony would also have to rely on Mediatek’s cooperation to some degree for the fix. And as we’ve seen in the past, that can slow things down.

I already commented on this. There's virtually no difference between S95C QD-OLED and X95L mini led backlit LCD. In some contents Sammy OLED excels whereas in some X95L. So, hard to tell which one is better. Both are competent. If size is what you prefer as well as do not want to be bothered about pixel burn in, LCD is way to go. Only one gripe that needs mention is that I didn't find any noticable upscaling of low resolution contents as clamed by many reviewers on the X95L. In fact the screen being big, normal low res contents on youtube look awful on the big screen and you can't avoid noticing the artifacs and noise and slightly blurry edges. If you go with 65 inch QD-OLED, Sony or Samsung, it'll be less noticeable. Hope this helps.

@@Sas-wk9lj thanks for your input on the comparison between those 2 units but I disagree on not seeing the difference in upscaling. I have many Sony TV's. But the 85X95L is the first TV that is bigger than 70" that looks great on standard def content including low res cable/satellite feed. I'm seeing detail and less digital noise compression that I didn't believe was possible from compressed trash cable/satellite signals. I do believe you have to use the built in apps for maximum effect because my external devices don't do as great as built in apps. Unless you set your device to output source resolution and have the TV do the upscaling. Then I notice it's just as good. Most external streaming devices don't allow you to do that though and you would have to do it yourself in the settings based on whatever you are watching. I'm curious as to what settings you are using on the 85X95L because the XR Clear feature is real and there's nothing else close to it. It was the first thing I noticed before any single review was even out.

@@LazyCrazyGuy I guess you can help me with Picture calibration if what you're claming to be right. I've the clarity/ sharpness set to 60, Reality Creation set to Auto, Random noise reduction to Off, and Digital noise reduction to Off. What setting would you rather have for the XR Clear Image to work as expected?

@@Sas-wk9lj did you report my comment as spam or misleading? I was trying to help you with the settings on the 85X95L and I just got a message saying I was spamming or scamming. I don't know why my comment would be labeled as such when I was telling you what to watch so you could see the difference of what reality creation was capable of. Anyways I don't know if it was you but my comment was deleted and I received that message and I don't think it's cool when I'm just trying to help.

@@LazyCrazyGuy it obviously wasn't me. I already posted a question as a reply to your comment, right? I didn't even see any reply from your end with suggestions on settings.

Very helpful review. Had pretty much settled on getting the S95C and Sammy’s best Sound bar for Atmos BUT saw comparison between S95C & A95L and the superior clarity of the Sony was so dramatic I’m forced to reconsider. Is it worth the extra $1K+? Maybe. Depends, in part, on what my best solution is for Atmos! One of the advantages of the Samsung setup was that expensive soundbar was a good all-in-one solution. Normally, the Sony is only $600 more but the Samsung can be had with a healthy discount-the Sony, full price. (and I may be forced to wall mount the Sony because my console is close to the width of the Sony-need to get the ruler out! That too adds to the cost. A center pedestal *looks* better but Sony has always been slow to catch on to these “creature comfort” issues while getting the tech right). Anyway, during this black friday season, am trying to make a decision- any suggestions? I could probably get the Samsung 11.1.4 soundbar and use with the Sony, although Ouch! that’s expensive at $1500 (less whatever discount I might find).

Does it Use AntiReflective Coating ? Or its like Every OLED a Mirror Panel ?
@PSYCHOV3N0M Жыл бұрын
OLED is meant for glossy panels. Matte panels and coatings are garbage. 🤮🤮🤮 They reduce the picture quality.
@Tripokaridos22 Жыл бұрын
@@PSYCHOV3N0M U have that wrong, All pro panels use Antiglare coating , search it . Glossy Panel is used for OLED to boost brightness thats all. What Picture Quality ? What is the point of pure Blacks if u Cant see them and U just see Reflections over it . All OLED are Known for Garbage Reflections , Even Monitor Alienware is Garbage and trolled because of this . They reflect everything. The only Use for Oled is at Full Dark Environment with no light at all. But its hard to admit when u spend money on it .

The price should knock a couple of points off the final review score. The competition is significantly cheaper for damn near the same performance. Diminishing returns should figure into your points scale, otherwise you’ll have gullible people overspending for no reason.

Just needs four full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports instead of two and it would be a 10. Hopefully next year.

Thanks for explaining the contrast/brightness Situation with OLED at 12:00 min! I get a small brain fit everytime people talk about "infinite contrast", but they don't measure the actual steps!

I really wish they'd sell cheaper TVs with all the audio stuff ripped out. Nobody spending this much on a TV is going to use the garbage built-in speakers anyway. It should just be similar to how you can get CPUs without integrated graphics.
@tim3172 Жыл бұрын
The people "spending this much" don't care about the small fraction of cost savings that would come with a "soundless" or sound-degraded variant. Couple that with developing, certifying, warehousing, and maintaining two different SKUs and yeah... if you want a cheaper TV, buy a lower-end model. Are you really comparing scavenging CPUs with GPU defects and selling them as with GPU (a product that requires zero additional engineering) to a television?
