When you have EVF you don't need second screen on camera body, everything is in viewfinder, no need to put down camera and change settings. That's the one of many advantages of MILC cameras.

The truth is *IT DOESN'T MATTER* 😄 All that matters is skill and if your tools will help you deliver the final product that client will like. As an example, I received source material shot on AG-DVX200 which I couldn't use b/c operator did a really bad job. At the end to save it I used a mix of footage from backups: Sony a6300 and iPhone X and it worked. You can compare RAW / S-Logs / bits and spec sheets all you want... the end result is more important than numbers.

i just got my A7III... I LOVE IT!...i have used canon hg21, canon 7d, canon 6d, sony a7rii, A7sii, and A7riii....... annnnd the dji Osmo........and again..... I LOVE this camera. The photography i can do is Dope, the low light power is incredible, and the price was on POINT.

why is in A7iii images the sky look so bluish and in canon images it looked perfectly natural...I have seen videos of A7iii which looked dominated by majenta colors.. I wish canon had given us the latest codecs, and latest features..I still find canon colors so pleasing to the eyes..

I know what you mean and what you are talking about. The colors tend to look much better using the A7 III in Adobe Lightroom. A lot more natural and I think we were using a picture style. Daniel

That is cheap for a camera tbag competes with "pro" cameras. I think this camera is better than the Canon 1dx and as good or almost as good as the 1dxm2 in many ways. Considering the 1dx bodies are $6k, this is a pretty cheap camera.

Your image comparison is not good!!!!! video hands down you are right about the sony in video aspects. However your tests are with 2 different lens are in consistent. the vignetting from the 24-104 f4 is common and is a way cheaper lens at $900 vs the 24-70 f2.8 at $2000. Not familiar with the g-series lens to much but it is the top of the line lens sony produces and it is safe to say a comparison of a the two 24-70 f2.8 lenses would be correct.

I;m sorry, but I can't agree with you on the color accuracy, I watched the reviews and bought the "better color" shtick, and I got the Sony A7III, a very fun to use camera, already familiar on handling as I also own an a6300 and a6500 and played with my friends A7R II, BUT, still prefer Canon color science, off the bat the Sony colors still looked too bluish/purple, did a test today by shooting a flower with both Sony A7III and my Canon 5DS (scaled it down to 22mpx so it wouldn't gain more detail from 50mpx), the colors were right on the spot every time with the 5DS, but the dynamic range was shit especially in the shadows. And before anyone says, fix te colors in post bla bla bla, I just love the fact that you get nice color out of the cam from Canon.

Bull. I just used them, side by side at an event. I actually love the Sony, it became my camera, it will help me make money. It is mine now. But , man, you can tell me whatever you want, I don't care, no bias. When I imported the pictures in Lightroom, first of all, I didn't notice any sensible differences in noise and low light. Light is light, noise is noise. You have good light, you gonna get great pictures, you don't , they are pretty much the same. No differences on people's faces whatsoever. But , man, when I look at the colors, night and day. Sony colors are flat, devoid of vibrance, and with low light they degrade substantially. Canon's colors pop, they are creamy, stylish, they save even a picture with noise. You can do whatever lab tests and chart tests, a pro that makes money photographing people will tell the difference.

We have Sony´s (A9+A7III) and Canon´s (2x 5D Mark IV) in use at weddings. Canon´s generally deliver better results. Why? Canon´s are more reliable than Sony´s. The Sony A7III and A9 have had memory card problems in summer outdoor temperatures. For video the Canon is also better. The autofocus (touch) and tracking is so reliable that shooting video with aperture 1.2 is very easy. The Canon display is much clearer and the colors more beautiful, especially if you want to show the bride and groom photos. We show photos and video clips directly from the camera and this ensures great feedback from our customers. With the Sony display colors, the resonance is mostly absent. It may be small things, but for us it is big differences that have a positive effect. A tip for you, test Canon C-Log, you will be thrilled.

Joe Blower that’s have a reason why almost everybody who has both of this câmeras are saying they prefer Canon. To be honest, the new Sony specs we usually use it 5% of the time, or less.

you just shoot the shutter speed you want for the framerate and dont/cant change the framerate,...you want 120fps, shoot in 60fps with 1/240s shutter, then drop it in a 30fps timeline and slow it down, final cut optical flow in all my test produces perfect results, i think you can actually get better quality this way, as cameras drop the bitrate when recording 120fps. When optical flow or twixtor fails it seems to be only motion blur that produces artifacts, at 1/240s shutter most shots will not have motion blur. This method seems flawless in my test, and higher overall bitrate/higher quality. I would be interested if anyone says different and why. @@xiwang2841

my 7d broke... I have long wanted to go to the full frame and was ready to buy 5dm4, but then there was this ill-fated sony A73, and now I'm finally confused with the choice...Like there is glass on the canon, but the camera is ancient, and even works in 4K crop of the advantages of the viewfinder and a strong body. Sony also has a rotary screen, light weight, and similar characteristics. I wish they hadn't done it...)

I agree, I do have many great lens, it all started with the original 6D which I still love. Not the most advanced camera but instead, it produced great images. Ever since then I personally matured with the system. Why because the system cannot adjust to me but vice verse. I am sure I can grab a Sony and produce great images once I complete the learning curve. My point is, that in todays world, most cameras are more than capable of producing great images and videos. I do not focus so much on tech as much as the final product. If I did, I would be buying a different camera every year. That is not sustainable and it is not cheap. I have no problems with people loving my images and coming back for more so I don't see the need to jump ship. BTW, I do not bash Sony, I do bash those that have a superiority complex over Canon when they produce nothing to actually back it up. Cheers, and by all means enjoy photography/video no matter what gear you choose.

Yes, every camera is good this years, no bad ones. but as a pro, I need a camera that is fast, better iso, not heavy(I only use prime lens and old zeiss), film good 4K, it's a tool. the better tool you have, the easier for you to get the job done. there are just too many thing DLSR is missing. I shot with nikon canon before, nothing wrong if you always shooting in a normal setup, the image you can is the same. and switch system is not so bad, just do it slowly. you can use your canon lens on sony. pro dont really care about it, if you can make 1000+ a day.

Yeah finally they are after some failures with batteries and overheat. Sony has a long way to go until the professionals will change though. Canon has much more lenses, especially if your into sport and that kind of stuff. Also the support Canon got is very important as a professional photographer. Its a bit harder to go mirrorless for Canon that have so many lenses. Sony didnt have very much before. Will probably be some kind of adapter for old EF lenses.

I agree, I have downloaded many Sony RAW images and they are not the best as people claim. I love my Canon 5D4. You can keep your IVIS, eye focus, zebras etc. Simplicity beats it anyways.

Just because you say so? To me what is important is the final product and after downloading Sony RAW images files from Sony, it totally convinced me that I would not for the moment bother with anything currently has on their camera line up. Most young photographers are hooked on specs and gimmicks that are nice to have but not necessary to produce great work. Canon gets the job done right, without flinching...you cannot trust Sony to do that in a professional set up. Too many little issues with those cameras. You may want to turn a blind eye to eat to feel better about your purchase but in reality is that unless I was only a photography hobbyist I would not take Sony feeling 100% confident. And you know that.

Would like Sony to use a Canon style articulating information screen. My biggest stop to buying a Sony. Then there's Canon's lack of ISBIS. It seems to be their biggest design error and they are still sticking with that fail. As if a product engineer said in a meeting " 95% of potential users want IBIS" and the design team leader said "We don't need no stinking IBIS!"

I have both systems. Initially i thought sony is better but after working with it on few projects, it has lots of drawbacks. 4k overheating- it is unpredictable and makes this mode unreliable. Even in HD if used in direct sunlight it will overheat ( of course there are outdoor shoots). Its codec is no good esp HD. An interframe compression at 50 mbps is only for phone devices. Play it on tv and ul see lots of artifacts macroblocks. Log color profiles in 8 bit 50 mbps doesnt hold up. Its 120fps is jittery. Ul understand all this when you have the camera that long and get to compare the footage with canon’s.

Wow someone that isn't just generically saying, "OMG it is so much better!" or "OMG it overheats!" I think as the A7III matures into a full blown product what we will see is that pros will find it to be mostly a toy that can't do what they need, but amatures will love it since it gives them a full frame camera for so little (nothing is wrong with either of these things). Once the Sigma lenses drop they will even have some decent lenses for price too, and likely will never notice how often those lenses will misfocus the way a pro will. That gives Sony more time to get more lenses out, which is definitely their bottleneck, since they are kind of still new to that. In the meantime Canon is making a FF mirrorless, and everyone that is adapting Canon glass to the A7III will have the option of switching back easily once that drops, should they figure that is the better move. Not sure what Nikon will do if their D850 sales stagnate as the result of the A7III. I wonder how many back orders were cancelled on the announcement of the A7III? No matter. I'll keep shooting what I have until it can't do what I need. Then I will make the most sensible upgrade I can to keep doing that. The specs matter less and less each generation, at least for stills, video is still making large improvements. Just about all modern cameras can get the job done for most people. There are so few people that absolutely require a specific camera for a specific job, and they aren't on youtube talking about it in the comments (they likely are in some remote area working for people like natgeo or nasa). Focus on the art, and everything else will fall in line.

I refused to buy into Sony before the release of their gen III a7xxx. That was because of poor battery performance, reliability issues, and service support. Well, I bought both a7III and a7rIII and sold both my Canon and Nikon gear (6D, D750, D810 + lenses). Sony won't make you a better photographer, but it will make your job little bit easier (ibis, you get what you see, and eye af for me). Is Sony perfect? No way, it needs to work on weather sealing their equipment, big time!

Well that's the thing. When I went to buy a new camera, I was torn between the resolution of the 5Ds/DS R or the 5D IV for it's all-round performance/ However, when comparing against the A7R III, which exceeded the 5D IV in dynamic range, AF coverage and tracking as well as hosting what I find to be fantastic low light and having such high resolution, I saw no reason for the 5Ds and the 5D IV, sony took a fantastically well rounded camera and threw in the megapixel boost. I feel like Canon needs to stop worrying about cannibalizing previous stand-alone models and put everything into one body.

If Canon gave us a better video codec for 4k it would be much better. Having to use tonnes of memory card space to do a one hour 4k video is unacceptable. I think they did this to keep selling the other canon products. The crop on the 4k video is also disappointing.

You can increase the video autofocus speed on the Sony. By default it’s set to medium, but you can switch it to fast if you so choose. Medium produces a more natural result, though.

Yes, the AF does not really have a good performance using the adapter during video recording. Some AF functions may not be available, like the loupe during manual focusing. Daniel

I think that when talking about switching from Canon to the A7III, for those who move wanting to use their old gear, the advertised price difference is a bit of a fallacy. Let's start with the camera body price tag which in Europe is approx 2250 vs 3600. Now, if you want to use canon lenses and have any hope of using AF-C in video, the cheaper MC-11(+-300EUR) won't make it, unless you have ART Sigma lenses. The Metabones V will do more or less but goes for nearly 500 EUR. Then... the battery thing. One extra Sony battery costs 90 EUR, while a normal LP-E6 for the IV cost around 45. Oh, and the battery charger is not included in the A7, another 90 EUR to the list. If you own speedlites and want to use some of the advance features... forget it. Of course, even after adding all this the A7III would still be cheaper, but for those deciding if buying a Mark IV or switching to Sony while keeping their Canon Glass, the difference in price is not the 1350 EUR as it might look at first sight. The real comparison would be more in the line of 3000 vs 3600. I know this from a close friend who has switched and it is spending way more than first expected, when adding all the accesories.

Who need the add. charger, if you can charge the battery through the housing? The battery of the Sony lasts super long and the LP-E6 does not cost 45€, it more like 70€. Daniel

Yes, the Metabones and the MC-11 are great for photo but for video... We have just spent a whole evening trying the metabones V with 5 different Canon lenses and we are not too happy about it. Regarding the battery charger. You are aware that the built in charger takes more than 4 hours to fully charge the battery, right?. If you are going for intensive / travelling and have two-three batteries is not even an option to use the built-in charger. I can agree if you do a "light" use.

Speedboosters are for crop cameras or shooting in a crop mode. The metabones adapters (not speedboosters) are recommended for full frame cameras like the A7iii

The general consensus is the sigma mc-11. I'd recommend you to watch some videos on it as it's the clear winner and it's cheaper. Also, if you use any sigma ef mount lenses, then the mc-11 makes them work how they'd normally work when used natively
