If an active system like this doesn't have proper limiters to prevent it popping the tweeter like this when pushed, it's worthless. Doesn't matter that most people won't do it (disregarding that 91 dB isn't excessively loud for max volume), it shouldn't be excused.

91DB isn't "excessively loud", are you sure about that? 91db can do hearing damage over time. its also louder then anyone would actually go. Serious, if you care about your hearing, do not listen to volumes that loud. Over time, you will loss your hearing, and thats not good.

@michael-4k4000 91 dB IS loud, but for a home-theater use-case it equates to playing back a movie soundtrack at 14 dB below cinema reference, assuming the 91 dB is the peak sound level you'd experience. That is loud by lost metrics, sure, but not dangerous as a peak or short term loudness

What I miss in the review is a verdict on the main issue that people have with the A9: audio drop outs. Other reviewers have said that with the Quad, this is pretty much a thing of the past. I’d like to hear your verdict on this.

Yes, the dropouts are a thing of the past. I have my control box hidden away in a cupboard and I've had zero dropouts since I've been using it. No issues either if someone walks in front of a speaker.

@@S1mmz for me, the drop outs happen because of having a router in the same room. I turn the mesh node in the room off whenever I am using the A9 and the drop outs disappear instantly. Hoping I wouldn’t need to do this with the Quad.

@@lukevanderwaalMy router is in the same cabinet as the quads control box, alongside a Sky box, Zidoo Z9X, Philips hue box, plus several other smart devices and it's 100% solid.

Did you test the speakers further apart than the picture? As thats no further than a soundbar and pointless. The quads really shine when they are 3m to 3.5m apart. There's quite a few changes as well. The subs have been improved with the new 360 v2 calibration side of things. If you use a Sony tv as the center, it now gets included with the calibration of the speakers and plays in unison instead of no calibration and independently like the previous model. The introduction of the mid range driver has massively made the sound a lot fuller and better than the originals. Also, two huge upgrades are no drop outs and the fact if you or someone else sits off center, you don't lose the center channel anymore so that it sounds like it is coming directly out of the speaker you are sat closest to, both really annoying features of the previous model.

You have no way of knowing that there are "no dropouts" for everyone anymore. And to say that adding a few tiny tiny drivers has "massively made the sound a lot fuller and better" is ridiculous.

@@Mr21scott I owned the original model and now have the quads and the introduction of the mid range driver has made a big difference to the sound. There are multiple owners across the Facebook group and multiple forums who have the quads and all have experienced no dropouts.

Quad is waaay better than the A9 so eh not sure what you heard or what tv and set up you had when reviewing them ..might be time for a new tv

Have the Quad and had the A9 in the past. Both systems are very good, amazing even. The Quad is better in terms of less/no drop outs, sounds slightly better. I like the A9 speaker look a lot better and you could hang the A9 on the wall with one screw. Wish they kept the same design. The Quad speakers are not really small, they are thin, the dimensions with the stands are like 12”x 11.5”. Wish you had the option to add a sound bar as a center channel, like the phantom center, but nothing beats a dedicated center. Also wish you had option to add a 2nd subwoofer, however, you dont really need it, that depends on your room though.

In my opinion, you should be looking for the ht-a9 for a third of the price right now. I grabbed a set and they are outstanding.

The Theater Quad offers some great improvements overall, but you're right that the HT-A9 are definitely still a great pick, especially at a discounted price!

Center performance is over hyped. Just enjoy it and you Will feel the sound actually coming from the center

Without the centre channel, one will have to put up with a phantom centre, better known as a stereo image. A perceived stereo image only works well when the main listening position (MLP) is directly in between the stereo speakers. If one is off axis, one is off sound. Resulting in an unintelligible dialogue

I have A9 for 2 years, the phantom center work from wide setting positions. It is doing better job than my other system monitor audio bx2 with Yamaha AV@@Totalplonker

I disagree with several points on this so-called review. Regardless, the M2 is a much better upgrade than the A9 and the M2 is superior to the Samsung Q990D in terms of Atmos/360 spatial audio and sound accuracy.

For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
