Where if you watch be the B the installer as an example, he is definitely making a big part of his income from KZbin, which is fine. However, he’s not paying for the products himself like Danielle is so he’s influenced by the manufacturers just as we are influenced by him. B the Installer is a perfect example of a KZbinr who started off straight up, then grew a base of customers and now he basically says everything is good such as the LG sound bar. I’m not trying to not B the installer, he seems like a nice guy and I like watching him. But it feels like a sales pitch most of the time.

I am planning for a fall purchase. Been researching a lot, combined with lots of trips to different places to listen to the systems in person. After a lot of turmoil, I recently settled on the Sonos soundbar/300's system. This to the chagrin of multiple salesman who are convinced that I am ruining my life with that sort of theater system setup. But this changes everything as I am 100% locked into getting the A95L and I believe that the quads will intersect with the tv to provide an elevated experience after seeing your video. I appreciate your channel and how you mix the detailed information with an entertaining and edgy commentary.

77” A95L owner here. Have their STR-AZ7000ES AVR and use the Acoustic Center Sync function with my 7.2.4 speaker setup. I can’t recommend the TV enough, best combination of oled and processing in any tv to date and tends to be very accurate with respect to the director’s intent. A95L speakers are awesome, best in any TV I’ve heard, with ACS brings the center image of dialogue up to the center of the screen and adds a sort of “wall of sound” effect, which is super immersive. In my setup the tv speakers take over the higher frequency sounds and dialogue from the center channel speaker, which does more of the low end. Also nice is that when you pair a Sony TV with the Quad, the TV remote’s menu buttons integrate with and allow you to control audio modes directly without the Quad’s remote. Super convenient experience that isn’t talked about enough, staying in one brand’s ecosystem. You’re gonna love the A95L + Theatre Quad combo

Thanks for the comparison review :) The box was made bigger for better air flow as people were also complaining about the original boxes over heating and being noisy. One key thing you also missed off with the acoustic center sync... On the original HT-A9, the speakers and TV while they play together, they play independently. On the Quads if you have a 2022 TV model onwards (need to update to latest firmware), then the TV gets included as part of the calibration and plays in unison with the speakers so sounds much better.

I had the Dragon for a few weeks but ended up returning it. The sound was loud, but I felt it was brittle and shrill no matter what I did with the settings. This was particularly true on non-Atmos content, like classic movies that only have mono or stereo tracks (I don’t do upmixing, I like to hear the sound as it was originally intended). With that in mind, since the Quad is neck and neck with the Dragon as depicted here, would that maybe be the superior pick for someone like myself? And what about the Bravia Theater Bar 9?

Get it that the wider soundstage may bring its own benefits, espically with music but size of the room matters too and needs to be considered. I would love to see you try a Sonos setup but replacing the additional E300 you added with a pair of 5s. This way to bring more stereo abilities over an ARC but deliver the better musical abilities the 5 are meant to offer. Or, what about dual Move 2 as additional stereo speakers, that can then also be used in other rooms when needed?
@S1mmz6 ай бұрын
Hopefully Sonos new soundbar due in September would allow two Era 300's at the front as well as add DTS, would then be the perfect setup. Phantom center isn't that bad though, it's miles better than the original HT-A9 and some people with wired separates run phantom centers these days.

Great review, Daniel! Would the quad (or A9 for that matter) still sound good in a living room where the couch is against the back wall and you can't get the speakers properly behind you? Can they be placed on side walls in line with the couch or must the rears face the fronts? Thanks!
@neverenoughtech6 ай бұрын
You really want them behind you. I have not explored whether the optimization process works with multiple orientations … I still need to explore some facets of this system more … which I will

@@neverenoughtech They work fine to the sides as long as slightly behind the seating position. Pointing the speakers so they face each other and fire across you still works wonders and doesn't ruin the bubble at all. Keeping the speakers at the same height seems to make more of a difference this time round than toeing in / slideways etc.

If your sofa is up against the wall these can still be wall mounted to the back wall as long as they are not too close to anyone’s head. This is why they are flat. The further away from your head, the better in this arrangement (eg put them on the wall either side of the sofa).

Due to significant differences between streaming lossy 5.1 and atmos and blue rays - and how dramatically any one movie/series uses upward firing channels and rear channels- I don’t have a particular setting for you - I’m always adjusting based on content … I do tend to test some at an intense level to get a sense of the full force but mostly I listen to 60% of what would be loud enough to hurt hearing. The quad and A9 do not get as loud as flagship soundbar setups so I tend to have it at a higher % volume … other than this I keep the sound field on - if there is an auto mode I keep it there - and I keep height settings at default or highest

Gonna have to watch this later tonight. Just brought home today the Sonos arc and 300 setup as it’s on sale. But have been eyeing the a9 or the Quad - but the extra $1000 has me perplexed ha. I’m fine getting the quad - but yeah. The Arc setup is kinda amazing (only hooked up the arc so far to see if dialogue is good enough. It seems to be fine but so many reviews say it’s poor. The surround effects with just the bar are really hard to stop gloating about. My traditional 5.1.2 setup doesn’t replicate sounds as good. That said - do you think the Sony would improve on that? How much better is this system compared to the sonos arc + era 300s setup?
@neverenoughtech6 ай бұрын
The 300s have a lot of promise -- I think the front hardware needs to be updated to get a more official sound … there is a transitional kind of vibe going on - so I would say the quad sounds more fully thought out. But I sense the real comparison will happen when/if Sonos officially allows 300s in front and rear … otherwise it is a bit apples and oranges.
@BorisYeh_6 ай бұрын
The room space matters, I bought this system first come out, too tight nor close layout would be ruining the 360 mapping. The all 4 speakers must face direct front, not even a bit strange angle, otherwise the sound just won't sync cohesively, darn just took my almost weeks to place them right. Great comparison, my loved A9 just has a real successor.
@S1mmz6 ай бұрын
Isn't the case with the quads. My rears face each other as my sofa is against the wall and there's no gaps in the sound whatsoever, as tested with the various Atmos demos on disk. Seems height placement this time round is more important, as having them at different levels (even though Sony says you can) is what I found ruined the sound, whereas angling the speakers or sideways rears did not.
@BorisYeh_6 ай бұрын
@@S1mmz I placed rear speakers as you did but not that spatially sounded. As my opinion, I would suggest you move sofa up front half or one foot, creat a breathing space for them, even uplifting the rears, above my ears as I placed. As Daniel mentioned, I watched DUNE 2 so many times when I adjusted the rears, as the result, right behind and above your sitting spot and ears (not right asides) will give the better Sony so called phantom virtual enhancement.
@S1mmz6 ай бұрын
@@BorisYeh_ Hi, I can't really move the sofa unfortunately. I did try it as a test and it still sounded better with them to the sides at ear level with the top driver and inch above my head (they are still behind me by like 30cm). The speakers are all equal in distance. My fronts are 3m apart and my rears are 3m apart. I'm not also sat directly next to a speaker like some people do which is why I feel it makes a massive difference. I've ran various demos like the Atmos Amaze demo which when it does the full 360 run around there's no gaps. The helicopter demo which just utilises heights also goes round the entire room with no gaps. Then I also tried the conductor where she swings from the rope front to back, then right to left, again no gaps. When I had them directly behind me, the rears were too quiet that I had to have them on max. I found this wasn't balancing the system like I wanted, as I've made sure every speaker level matches the same 75db reference point with an SPL meter. I'm undergoing some house renovations currently, but that will be complete within 3-4 weeks of which I'll then be adding the Sony A95L into the mix. I will once again test the speaker positions just to be 100% certain as everything is then getting wall mounted with cables hidden.
@BorisYeh_6 ай бұрын
@@S1mmz the quads just not easy to pleased. Btw, the flat ceiling is another key to even 4 height speakers, I tried Blade Runner 2049, the first 20 mins sence just happened to demo all the 12 phantom speakers, from near to far, ground to sky. Wish your renovation and new TV will bring the match you like.

Is it better to plug an apple tv to the Quad receiver or straight to the TV?
@neverenoughtech6 ай бұрын
For sound it’s always safest to plug straight into the quad as the TV can do funny things before passing on the audio - especially if you have not selected the correct settings. If you know what you are doing and your TV has eARC then it probably doesn’t matter a whole lot … especially since the quad can pass 4K/120

Debating between a 990D or getting the quad. I mainly watch movies and shows on a Samsung oled tv. Would you recommend the 990D since it has Q-symphony or pick the quads ?
@neverenoughtech6 ай бұрын
If money is tight then the D … otherwise I much preferred the quad over the D. With these kinds of products I think you should always think about a return strategy as it may not compliment the room, your specific taste, and I’d say more than phones and laptops - this product category is more prone to defects.
