Hi there Adrian. Another great upload. I appreciate your hard work all the time. Fascinating subject as always. Stay cool fella, regards rich :-)

Hi Richie, Appreciate the kind words. It keeps me engaged and busy for the most part. The video don’t have to be the best quality, I’m more concerned about helping people who might want to use such ancient contraptions from my youth 🤣🥰

@@richie152 Yes, that price sounds about right. As expensive as modern smartphones today.

Another great one Adrian, and nice to see some shots of my old stomping ground. In fact I bought my Digital 8 camera from Hughes in Norwich in 2001 and captured some precious memories of the last few weeks of Uni. I loaned it to a friend a few years ago but I believe it still works. One of the great features of these cameras is that they can play back Hi-8 and Video 8 cassettes and output them digitally via Firewire. I had loads of old Video 8 tapes from my previous camera so this meant I could still play them back, and then later copy them to DVD digitally. These cameras also have an analog input and built in Time Base Corrector making them very a very useful analog/digital (interface) for any old tapes of other formats too (provided you still have a player for them of course). In other words, think carefully before getting rid of it!

Thanks for your kind comments as always. Mad to think you got your digital 8 camera from Norwich, all that time ago. With regards to Digital 8 cameras being able to playback v8 and hi-8, this was something I was looking into. Apparently, not all D8 cameras can do this. I popped a v8 cassette into the camera in this video and when I played it, there was absolutely nothing. When I popped it back into a H8 camera, it played back fine. Then I found this. www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00026519 So this model of camera doesn’t let me do it 😞 I will need to check my other camera and see if that has the capability. My gut tells me I have the cheaper model which doesn’t have that capability. I’ll check and update.

@@ReelFilm2016 wow! I didn't know that not all D8 cameras play back the analog tapes. I have to ask then, wtf is the point of them then??? Given that Mini DV cameras are smaller and cost around the same and are the same quality, why would anyone choose a D8 one without that feature? Odd. In that case maybe don't keep it 😏
@ReelFilm20166 ай бұрын
@@asprinwizard My guess is that Sony just wanted you to pay more for the perk. Can’t see any other reason. I’ll check the other camera and see if that is backwards compatible. If it’s not, I might sell both and get a compatible one 😀
@asprinwizard6 ай бұрын
@@ReelFilm2016 I would do that. I simply don't see any reason to have a D8 camcorder without having that backwards compatibility. It effectively gives you a 3 in 1 playback device - and as I've found out recently finding a reliable video 8 playback device is the devil's own job (although I did succeed eventually!)

So do the photos get put onto tape and videos onto memory card?

and how did you manage to get the video recordings onto a PC? many thanks
@ReelFilm201618 күн бұрын
@@anonymousgaming. Yes, the pictures are recorded directly onto the tape. Strange concept nowadays. No way to take the individual photos off. You just watch them being taken during the video. The video is recorded onto the tape. No memory card recording on these models.

Pictures which are shot go directly onto the tape as you record. Strange idea in principle, but that was how it was. 😊

Hi, Do you know how transfer video from this camera with usb?
@ReelFilm20162 ай бұрын
I don’t believe you can transfer video using USB. I believe that the USB was used for streaming. To get video off of the camera, you would need to use, either, the AV out port or the Digital out port. You would need, either the cameras AV cable or a firewire cable.

@@whotao8358 Hello, thanks for reaching out. Well you will need to charge the cameras battery and in order to do that, you will need the original AC power adapter or a separate battery charger.

@ReelFilm2016Ай бұрын
Hello, thanks for watching and commenting. Glad the video was of use to you. That’s great that you were gifted the camera, but frustrating that you have some issues. Generally eBay and charity / thrift shops. With regard to camera repairs, I always try and find local electronic repair centres and then ask them if they know anyone qualified to do the work. Always way up the cost vs the overall value. Sometimes it’s better to cut your losses and buy another one from elsewhere. Let me know how you get on and please consider subscribing. It helps a lot and you become of the excellent little community on here. 🥰
