You forgot the most important part, the FX6 image is different despite the sensor being the same. The way it processes the information is different. Going back and forth between fx3 and fx6 the fx6 tends to have better deeper shadows and more recoverable highlights.

This is true. I was the AC on the Netflix doc "Sly" about Sylvester Stallone's life, and we shot the whole thing on FX6's with only one interview with Quentin Tarantino on the FX9. That camera is awesome, such a perfect doc cam

From my editing experience when matching the FX3 and FX6 I mostly noticed that the FX3 exaggerates brigtness when compared to the FX6. When recording in SLOG-3 you basically need to turn down the whites on the FX3 or turn them up on the FX6 and then they look basically the same.

Got the FX3 because there’s no way I’d be able to sneak the FX6 into the crowded, run-and-gun shoots I mostly shoot in. I won’t often be syncing multiple cameras, and when I have to I can still sync timecode with the FX3. I’ll miss the internal ND’s but I already have variable ND’s for my lenses. I’ll miss all the extra buttons (a sign of a truly professional camera) but again, I need a small, discreet form factor, something I can keep in a bag, grab quickly for some shots then quickly put away.

I have been using the A1 for video for the past couple of years, mostly shooting stage and studio rehearsal dance performances. Noise in low-light situations was a constant struggle. I recently purchased an FX3 body. It is a game changer! Low-light performance, even at a ridiculously high ISO, is amazing.

Its like comparing a Van with a City Car. It just serves different purposes and therefore isn‘t really compareable. Tbh the FX6 for me is „just“ a low budget version of the FX9, whereas the FX3 is a great run and gun option or traveling option.

yeah, they definitely serve different purposes, but the big thing here is that the final results look so similar, it's just what kind of body do you need. Even the Fx9 footage looks very similar.

aaaaand the internal processing is different. imo i prefer the mp4 container over the mxf container of the fx6 because the fx6 has 8 bit long gop because of that while the fx3 can give you 10 bit long gop of longer periods of shooting, which is nice for a day full of interviews etc

IBIS doesn't mean gimbal quality. Because of the economics and weight distribution of the fx6, it's easier to get stable footage.

I think it all comes to the ability to break the rig down to super small components allowing a film-maker to travel light and possible go to locations that wouldn't be possible with a large rig. The Sony FX3 made it's name with The Creator and there's really nothing left to say about it.

I have a7s3 & fx6 and if I was to start over I’d go with fx3 hands down. Internal NDs are overrated. Inbody IS on the other hand is so useful 🙏

Recently had a multicam setup with multiple FX3's and FX6's combined and I have to say, not having timecode in (without adapter) is a huge loss on the FX3.

Its also important to notice, that you cannot input any audio into the FX6 if its on a gimbal like the DJI Ronin RS4 Pro. But all the extra buttons and especially the integrated variable ND filter that is not polarizing but electrochromatic (it wont mess with your reflections like screw on VNDs would, which is a gigantic advantage) make it incredible for more run and gun like shooting because you dont have to swap ND filters all the time. If you want a gimbal setup, you might also want to consider getting either an FX3 and a Ronin gimbal or just get a Ronin 4D while you're at it. The 4D will also stabilize your up and down movement, what no other gimbal does enabling you to RUN, while recording but your footage looks like it came from a steadicam. You can put an FX6 on a gimbal but it comes with the disadvantage of not having audio - sure you can record it externally, but it is extra work that you have to do and depending on your workflow, your customers might not like that. Its easier to just import all the footage and have synced audio, that is already kinda mixed but recorded seperately (PFL of each channel and the stereo mix recorded in camera already synced with the footage is the easiest workflow since all the work of syncing is already done before you even start Premiere, Davinci or After Effects). So if you got some time on set to swap NDs - you'd probably want to prefer the FX3. If you might get into situations where things "just happen" like when recording documentaries or news, you are better of with the FX6. But both can do the job of the other.

you can, with RS4 pro FX6 can be balance very well with the audio handle and a dji or rode wireless lav reciever without using any counter weight, I used this setup all the time.

I moved the evf to the rear mount on the handle, which helps with balancing and also avoid blocking when using the gimble up side down. Its only possible with RS4 pro tho, I used to have RS2 which is nearly impossible to use with the handle.

The struggle for me is … small with IBIS … vs large with that sweet sweet variable ND system. I want the best of both … I know … the Sony Burano can do it all (IBIS + ND + 8K) …for a small fee of $25,000 🙄

My biggest hurdle is the lens.. I keep hearing most cinema lens are made for super 35 and these are full frame. So I don’t want to buy a camera and be limited on the lens options but I no also don’t know if that’s a thing because surprisingly finding it hard to find the information

that's not true anymore. years ago, before full frame cameras were as widely available, you're right that cinema lenses were mostly APS-C. But now, there are hundreds of full frame cinema lenses.

Correction: they only have slightly over 12 stops of DR since the sensor is only readout in 12bit mode diring video recording. In photo mode it kicks back up to 14bit, closer to 14 stops

On one of my recent projects my dop brought both for an interview situation with proper lighting. FX6 for A Cam, FX3 for B Cam. Both looked really good, however we all had the feeling that the FX6s Image was slightly better. But not enough to justify the higher price. Both are great, but for typical content creators the fx3 seems like the better option while the fx6 is a cheap and very good choice for small professional productions I guess

Could you supply a reliable test that supports the 15+ stops of dynamic range for fx3? Gerald undone and cine D tests do not support this claim. In fact I believe Gerald undone found the Fujifilm xh2s had more dynamic range than fx3 if I'm not mistaken

The first and only the low light king has the same sensor actually a7s3 sensor came first and works as fine as theese 2 the side gripp etc are just for the pro's who realy need them but without them you can still live qnd a7s3 has mechanical ahutter whith a super hi res viewfinder

Yeah, the a7siii is fantastic! I've done side by side comparisons of the a7sii and the FX3 in lowlight and the performance is actually identical. Sony hasn't confirmed that it's the same sensor--but I think it is.

@@chadwin I love DSLR and Mirrorless cameras but I am a sucker for how camcorder are designed and strongly wish we could go back to having specialised tools for video or photo because camcorder answer a lot of problems that we encounter with mirrorless especially ergonomics.
