Great review I own this camera but at my modest level of knowledge,I prefer the videos from my osmo pocket. I guess this is because I don't use gimball... For photography,I must admit that I prefer the yellow jpg from the g7x mk i ... But,I agree that the sony takes better stills than the canon.... The base iso on this sony is 100.On a sunny day is it better to go down at iso64 or should I stay at iso100?
@TheHybridShooter4 жыл бұрын
It can't beat gimbal in terms of the stabilization of course, but the video quality is better with RX100 VII. ISO 64 is not necessary, it won't make much difference.
@MichaelColemanR4 жыл бұрын
I’d have to agree. Strictly based on video I still prefer the Osmo pocket for everyday use. The stabilization is more important to me than the bump in image quality, although having zoom capability would be great. Both are excellent in their own way. Can’t wait for the ZV1 review!

Some day you should do a video about why one inch sensors require any sharpening at all. Which also implies that the lenses aren't delivering the contrast we're used to from film camera lenses. But if I considered all the primes available for digital, from all the major manufacturers, well, let's stop and consider the sharpness I see in broadcast football games. Stunning detail and contrast. But consumer products don't have this. What the difference is between those broadcast cameras and consumer cameras would make an interesting subject. Of course, we don't expect you to be running around with one of them....but I remember getting Canon 5D Mark II and buying the top Canon primes for it, and horrified at the lack of detail in grasses, etc. Where the sun is means a great deal when you take pics. And that applies to the gamma of films. The best Kodak and Fuji films have stunning capabilities, and that includes film stock for motion picture. Many of these pocket cameras will not stop down very much. That's a limitation. They are simply not designed for tripod users. It helps, but only up to a point. Looking at this RX100 material, it seems the Osmo produces a more detailed (but natural and not oversharpened) output. Now that's crazy.....
@TheHybridShooter4 жыл бұрын
It doesn't necessarily require sharpening. Broadcast cameras use a ton of sharpening in-camera. For the clips in this video I used same minimal amount of sharpening that I use for A7 III and 24mm GM, which destroys any broadcast camera in terms of detail. The stills are very detailed, so the lens is not primary concern, it is more than good enough for 8MP 4K video. Canon can't shoot proper downsampled video (excerpt 1DX Mark III). They use pixel binning in 4K so Canon never matches Sony in terms of details. Osmo Pocket has great video for its size, but it is not as detailed as RX100 VII.

There are a lot of options at this price point. If one is a die hard Sony fan, then this camera fits into the compact travel category below the A7mk3 and A6000 series cameras with larger sensors but much larger size with lens. My other worries with these cameras is just how rugged are they in the field. It seems like one drop of more than a foot onto a hard surface and the camera with its plastic lens mechanism is pretty much worthless. The ergonomics are difficult, especially trying to see anything in bright sunlight through the tiny pop up viewfinder and Sony's always difficult menus. I don't see the value add over my Samsung Note 9 and its excellent camera that is always with me. Thanks for the usual excellent review. I really do look forward to your reviews and views.

Indoor scenes without water and grass would not help me to determine if a camera suit or not to me.... What best than a low light scene on the Donau river (I dont know if its the this river...) and the grass around on a nice sunset?
