You're absolutely right about the 50mm. If they had both come out at the same time I think I would have got the 1.4 due the size and weight. 1.2 isn't so bad though.

This lens is a miracle for how small and light it is, don't forget on APS-C you would need 56mm f/0.95 to match the light gathering, depth of field and field of view.

Very cool! .my older 85 1.4GM just gave out on me..this is a much needed upgrade!... Yes 8 years wait is crazy..I dont mind the 1.4...but to nit pick Sony had 8 years to come out with a 1.2!!!..come on!! certainly no excuses for it..im sorry but fine tuning bokeh and slightly sharper and obviously quicker AF..yes thats all good but why couldn't you put that towards the 1.2!!..lol Yes they can put the analytics and sales and price point behind it to answer the question of why they chose 1.4... but for some of us a 1.2 would be nice and for them to just release a 1.4 II..is kinda disappointing... yes I will pick one up..but if Sigma releases a new 85 1.2..then I might have to certainly rethink about selling this 1.4 II..lol I hope that they will still consider a 1.2 in the future..like the 50mm 1.2/1.4...releases..at least give people an option to choose..lol

I dont care 2 squats about a 1.2

I really dont care for the F/1.2 but what I do care about is the GM85-ii has only 2 XD linear motors. Why not 4 XD motors? Is it because it would make the lens too pricey or too heavy? Now I wonder if this GM85-ii can hit 30 or even 120 fps?

Here i am sitting…giggling a tiny bit…switched after 4 years Sony to now Nikon…i always had some (little) buyers remorse mostly for some of Sonys Glass (their GM Primes mostly)…but their 85 1.2 and 135 1.8 are the best ever made and im glad i have access to to them…this 85 release seems rather disappointing for Sony…

The shots out of this new Lens DO however look absolutely buttery…i doubt i could actually see the 1.2 difference…and if im perfectly honest, even in Nikonland id prefer a smaller 85 1.4 to the big monster they have…but alas, i LOVE Nikon colourscience for Photography and Videography, i prefer it strongly over Sony, so i guess im still jealously looking back to the Sony Lenses a little bit… :)

This lens should have been released two years ago, it’s still outclassed by the Sigma in terms of weight & nearly double the cost. They couldn’t make a f/1.2 because of the 46mm E-Mount, so they elected to build a video-centric 85 Prime, as opposed to a portrait photographer 85 Prime, which Nikon & Canon offers. They can make a 24 f/1.2 Prime with Quad-XD motors & shock the world once again in 2025 in conjunction with the α1ii announcement. Does Sony have the courage to still innovate?

Why the same comment on all videos? Sony always innovates, why jump to 1.2 before improving the GM Mark 1, that comes first. Deal with it.
@adamginsburg99094 ай бұрын
@@ritambaidya3760 they will never make a 1.2 85 Prime for E-Mount. They cannot push beyond 58mm due to the 46mm opening vs Nikon & Canon’s 55mm. Not enough light can hit the edges of the sensor

Yea, totally agree with you. Sony should have made this GM85-ii have 4 XD motors, not 2. i wonder if this 85-ii can even hit 30 fps?
