You are getting distortion on the Neewer because it doesn't have the electronic connection and therefor the camera isn't automatically fixing it with software. The Sony 35 has distortion too... it just gets fixed by the in-camera software because it's got the electronic connection. Hope that makes sense. Good comparison. Alll things being equal, the Neewer looks like a decent lens for the price. Just has to be manually focused and the images have to be fixed in post to remove distortion.

You are correct, great comment!
@AaronsDooM7 жыл бұрын
Bryan Adams how do I update the software for this distortion.
@250zazu7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is no 'in camera' lens correction for this specific lens because it is full manual and has no electrical connections. You can remove distortion in post processing software such as Lightroom. Hope this helps.
@ElRealista.6 жыл бұрын
Bryan Adams I agree. I think for photo is better the neewer, you can correct distortion easily and WB and temp. But sharp is something you cannot "add" in post. So that's a more desirable quality in a lens. Bokeh does not like me in that lens. That's why legacy are so good, some are pretty sharp and with character and awesome bokeh
@MehdiBenchaabane6 жыл бұрын
You can also correct the distortion in a video with adobe premiere
@THX..11387 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking the color difference is due to the camera processing the image based on the Sony lens having a built in lens profile.

Very interesting observation. However I am not totally convinced. From my Canon lenses, I do know that the chemistry of glass such as extend of fluorine or other minerals (As used more aggressively and precisely in L lenses) make a significant change to the above factor. Can you turn off all the in camera processing / Use RAW format and then give a comparison between the "Contrast" and "Saturation" of image result from each lens without any PP? Could be interesting to know more on this issue that is a major difference between the two, IMO.

I found out the Neewer lenses the other day on Amazon and of course you have a review on it! One thing I want to add is that sometimes when I shoot recipes videos I just keep my camera on manual focus because I almost always wants to focus on the food instead of my hands and auto focus simply won’t work. I think Neewer could be an option for people who shoot manual focus all the time as well if you don’t mind the distortion and color, which can be fixed in post.

Hello guys, the Sony a5000 is an E mount camera as well, do you think the newer 35mm will work properly with that model?
@ArthurR6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it will.
@h4ppydr4gon7 жыл бұрын
Isn't the distortion and different colours due to the profile used by the camera, when it's got a electronic lens? In my experience the colours can be shifted quite a lot in camera, if you want to. So you could get colours like the Sony from the Neewer, if you take your time at set it up the first time, you use it. I can do that on my a5000, so I'm pretty sure, you can do it in the a6000 too :o) Also, I know a lot of pros prefer manual focus to AF for video and the stepless aperture is really sought after for video.
@ArthurR7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct. And yes, the declicked aperture is nice for video. I suppose the plus side of the SEL35 is setting it up on a tripod and being free to move anywhere without worrying about focus.

@stevestruthers61807 жыл бұрын
There's no question that the Sony lens is, overall, superior to the Neewer lens, but what do you want for $70.00? I have an old 70s-era Canon FD series 35mm f2.8 lens that I got off of eBay for about $80CDN and I love the rich colours and sharpness it delivers. Having to focus manually also brings in a tactile element that is missing from cameras that do all the focussing for you. One trick I like to use when working with my Canon FD lens is to estimate the distance; if the subject is more than 20 feet away, I just set the lens to infinity. This allows me to nail the focus on the subject of interest and walk around capturing other subjects that are greater than 20 feet away without ever having to refocus the lens. No more waiting for the focus to lock on. If it turns out that the subject is a little less than 20 feet away, I only need to rotate the lens barrel slightly rightwards and away from the infinity mark, and usually the object will come into sharp focus. I think manual-focus lenses are probably a bit sharper because of their mechanical and optical simplicity, plus the fact that autofocus systems, as good as they are, are frequently off by a hair or two when they do lock focus, and that is likely due to some of the limitations inherent in AF technology.

Surprising how sharp the Neewer is stopped down a bit! I wonder what the results would have been at f5.6, as the Sony should offer the sharpest results at f5.6 according to dxomark. I think the Sony, like many Sony E-mount lenses, is still too expensive for what it offers. For example if you compare the Sony and Canon 10-18mm, or the Sony 55-210mm and Canon 55-250mm STM. The Canon options are both way cheaper and sharper. I just switched from a Canon T5i to a Sony a6000 (maybe later a6500) because of size and weight. Portability is worth a lot to me, but it sure hurt to buy Sony E-mount lenses to replace all my EF(S)-mount ones.
@Jahman1827 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on all the above. I'm a Nikon shooter and consider the most useable Sony lens are way too expensive. Is this some punishment by Sony for me having already invested in Nikon lenses.
@ArthurR7 жыл бұрын
Agree with you. I wish the Sony 10-18 was $350, the Sony 50mm was $125, and Sony had a crop sensor 16-35mm F2.8. Sony lenses are 2x the price of Canon equivalents in many cases.
@yttean987 жыл бұрын
Since Sony bodies are relatively/comparatively cheaper Sony needs to recover/makeup by charging more for their auto focus lenses. I get around it by buying Canon/Sigma EF/EF-S mount lenses and using adapters, this combo works quite well and also keep the costs down.

Except the auto-focus can be an issue.
