*_SONY DEMO RESET PROBLEM-FIX FOR WHEN COLD RESET DOESN'T WORK!_* There seems to be multiple reasons for this failure/problem... In my case it was the tape deck that was constantly trying to eject and not the cd I have the SONY MHC-GX570XM model and the cold reset only works about 1% of the time for my issue. Until I noticed something inside the tape deck between the wheels facing you, there is a tiny black tab on both A/B decks that was set differently in each deck when it was in demo shutoff loop. For me, this always gets triggered after a power outage and the machine resets itself and gets stuck in this demo loop. It begins making a clicking sound and powers off instantly. It has something do with a relay if you want to get if repaired properly. It rarely has anything to do with the elasticity of the band as some repair guys will tell you. It seems there are multiple reasons for this issue... *_FIX_* There's a little black tab that is about the size of a tic-tac inside both tape decks that is like a lock mechanism and when this happens, the deck that keeps trying to work has its tab slightly to the right BUT THE OTHER DECK it's set differently. It's tight to the left. If you push the tab to the left in the cassette deck that is spinning, and hold the tab in place while turning the machine on, or resetting it, VERY TRICKY TO DO, It will reset/stick in the lefthand position and quit turning off and doing that Sony demo thing.... It'll work fine again. You'll need a screwdriver for this. The tab is damn tough and awkward to push and hold back in place and it's doubly tough to do the reset (stop/play/cd1 trick) at the same time. But I've done this twice now after a power outage and worked properly. It still has the faulty relay and wants to cycle the tape deck for a minute when you power the machine on, but doesn't start that Sony demo- shutoff until there's an outage again. YOU MUST HOLD THE TAB IN PLACE UNTIL (it will fight you lol) THAT CYCLE ENDS about a half minute or something. Then it locks in place. In my case, I just have to open the tape deck door and it's on the face of the machine between but lower than the revolving spindles that your tape turns on, looking right at you. A little flat rectangular tab... No need to open the machine up or anything, but it's set kind of low and awkward to reach *_2:14_**_ OF THE VIDEO, JUST ABOVE THE CASSETTE HEADS, SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT OF THE GOLD PIN, YOU CAN SEE THOSE BLACK RECTANGULAR TABS FOR YOURSELF._*

Hi, I found this site while searching for a fix. My machine is an RG222...looks the same as yours. mine had same problem as yours...the CD holder will not open or play, it keeps searching. I have a CD in it and it won't open to get it out.. I tried the reset hoping for a miracle but NO. It may need a new part or something...any suggestions??. It has had a flogging over about 7-8 years. Everything else works. I am very unhappy. Please help!!!! I am in Australia. Marcia

mine is a Sony GX555 MP3, CD, cassette Stereo... 3 disc changer. My Granddaughter wanted it to play and hit buttons and now It says "Locked" It will play the CD in it but will not open the door. Checked internet, Supposed to need a remote to unlock it. We didn't have the remote when she accidentally locked it. I am 100% sure I pitched the remote never having used it when we moved 6 months ago. This gives me hope.....Your button combo did not work for me, but I will keep watching You Tube!

This might be a long shot but if you can get it to turn on, while its on Press and hold the STOP button and MOVIE/GAME button at the same time for about three seconds. The word RESET will appear on the display panel.

CD TRAY LOCK MODE This mode is used to make you unable to take sample disc out of tray in the store. Procedure: 1. Press the power button to turn the power on. 2. Press the [CD] button to select “CD”. 3. Load a disc and press "stop" AND "eject" for 5 seconds. 4. The message “LOCKED” is displayed on the screen and the CD tray is locked. (Even if pressing the eject button, the message “LOCKED” is displayed on the screen and the CD tray is locked) 5. To release this mode, press two buttons of "stop" AND "eject" for 5 seconds. 6. The message “UNLOCKED” is displayed on the screen and the CD tray is unlocked.

Hello , nice video. I have a quick question if you could help. The manual says that if i press AUDIO on the remote it switches between left and right recorded channels. I keep pressing and i do notice a difference but it's hard to know which mode is the default stereo mode unless it's connected to a tv and mine isn't. Any way to know which audio mode is played without a tv screen? (I have a similar model mhc-gn99) Thx in advance!

mine still works. Slightly different model. I have Cassette A and Cassette B. Insert CD in both if you want, button on the left that says tape A B. Push the button and it will be in cassette mode.

It's Actually Pretty Simple: All You Do Is, On A Left Side There's A Selection Of Source Choices CD, TAPE A-B, RADIO, AUX Input, Etc... You Want To Press The TAPE A-B Button, It Will Switch The Unit To TAPE Mode ( To Select Between Tape Deck A and Tape Deck B, Press The TAPE A-B Button Again Until You Get To Tape A Or Tape B, I Usually Use Tape Deck B ). After In TAPE Mode, All You Do Is, Insert a Cassette Tape In Either Tape Deck B Or A, Whichever You Selected, Then On A Unit Itself Or On a Remote Control Use The Same Buttons You Would For The CD Player. ( Play, Rewind, Fast-Forward, Stop, Next Track, Previous Track, Yes, This Unit Has The Ability To Jump To Next/ Previous Tracks On Tape, Just Like On CD player ) To Record On Tape, Insert a Blank Audio Tape Into TAPE B, Then On A Left Side Of The Unit, There's a CD-Syncro and Record Button. Use These Buttons To Copy From CD ( CD-SYNCRO Button ) Or Record Button, Next To CD-SYNCRO Button To Record From This Unit's Tape Deck A, Radio, CD, Or Auxiliary Input.

That's probably due to the optical pick up not working or the lens is dirty. Resetting the unit won't fix those issues.

The display button will turn off the demo. Gotta hit it twice. once will show the clock and second will stop the demo

By default it goes into demo mode. Theres a display button near the power button you press it twice to shut the demo off. First press shows the clock, second stops the demo.

Well that was quick see I told you there is a lot of secrets hidden inside even that the CD player was perfectly fine the unit was programmed to fail and I am pretty sure that this is why this unit and up at Goodwill and actually I did experience this situation with my LG front loader it just give up on me and it didn't want to turn on even that the washing machine was just 2 years old thankfully I find a video that shows how to deal with it after holding the on off button and the start button 6 seconds simultaneously the washer came back to life someone should do something about that this is a scam

its nuts how it can even end up like that. im glad theres secrets and that other people know of them. at some point i wouldve just ended up googleing the issue and i wouldve found out myself sooner or later. and to have a frontloader just stop functioning like that is nuts too. thankfully there was a work-a-round with it. and thats its working again.

Try the solution I posted above. It's only been 2 months so I hope you still have it and it works for you. I spent 2 years suffering through the cold reset working sometimes and sometimes not.... Best of luck The tab I'm talking about is very small but you'll notice it's set slightly differently in both decks when this happens if its the same issue for you

It clears the info that was stored manually over the years and puts it at default settings. The stop, play/tuning mode, and disc 1 button need to be pressed and held for a few seconds.
