My 2nd month with XM4's and I'm loving every minute of use. Following application of the right size choice of bud tips, a proper set up of EQ and assigning your preferred actions to the touch controls, the XM4's are unbeatable as of 2021, especially if price is a factor, despite the Sony's not being cheap at all. The ANC performance is unreal. During my first day I kept taking one ear bud out thinking I had a stroke and couldn't hear anymore. The only caveat to get the most out of XM4's, make sure your device supports Bluetooth 5.2 for a separate, dedicated connection to each bud from the source device. Playing high quality lossless .flac files over Sony's LDAC codec on its highest 990kbps setting, I personally can't tell the difference between dedicated wired cans. Even on 660kbps setting, sound quality is better than a CD but with improved range, 20+ metres. The used music source device is a Pixel 6.
@PushyPawn3 жыл бұрын
@bron lebron I would take XM4's any day although they are both so good the difference is minor. While the actual active ANC performance is very similar, I'd still claim the XM4's as being superior. IMO, the memory foam tips help more with noise cancellation than the slight software/hardware improvements. However XM4's do seem to to react to touch inputs and other changes faster. My phone is Bluetooth 5.2 compatible so I can't vouch for how older 5.0 source devices will perform.

How are the Sony's earbuds themselves compared to the airpods pro in terms of weight. How heavy are they when in your ear and can you hear the outside world fine with the Sony's ambient mode on, or are the airpods pro's far better in that category? Lastly, do you not find them too huge? They look massive, but then when I see them in people's ears, it doesn't look that bad

Just as a follow-up to my comlent above, I purchased the Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro. Given I have the S21 Ultra and the Tab S7+, the connectivity between both devices is fluid (plus they connect seamlessly to my work PC for Teams calls). In terms of sound/music quality, I find them very much superior to my AirPods Pro. However for noise cancelling the Galaxy Buds Pro definitely don't block as efficiently as the AirPods Pro. I bought the XM4s this week and I was blown away by the sound quality, ANC and Ambient sound modes especially in Ambient sound there is no or very little sound quality difference which I did not notice. I bought the Vista 2s 3 weeks ago and the ANC is just ok but I was very disappointed with their SurroundSense mode - the music sounded flat like clanging cymbals and this is coming from a Jaybird user as far back as Bluebuds X. I agree the fit is not the best for everyone but I'm fine with it, you have to compress the foam tips before wearing it. Realistically, you cannot put check marks on all the boxes on any product out there. You just have to find one that suits your preferences and needs. A perfect product doesn't exist. To summarize, I would use my Vista 2s for workout and the XM4s for daily use and travel. Using the riding mower to cut the grass might be a toss up lol.

However, I'm finding that they have a lot of trouble with background whooshing sound in ambient or ANC mode after a few months use. I have had one pair replaced by Sony already. I purchased a second pair to have while I waited for their return and after less than 3 months use I now have the same issue. I also had these type of issues with the Jabra elite75T with one earbud failing. Is there an issue with these earbuds packing so much tech into such a small package that they just fail? Sony were very good at replacing them with no issues about it but it's very annoying to have them fail after such short use.

The question i have is why @Andy's Tech Tone are you not recommending wf1000xm4 or sennheiser tw2 for gym usage. They are sweat and splash proof. I'm looking for a earbud that i can use in daily life and gym, by no means i do extreme moves that requires very secure fit but i do run occasionally and i believe xm4 or tw2 should sufficiently fit and also cover my needs for daily usage with ANC and other features. Can you explain why are you not recommending these buds for gym in all your videos. Not everyone is doing very intense HIIT training , i think these earbuds should be fine for weight lifting + small cardio (treadmill, climbers, rowing mach. etc.)
@AndysTechTone3 жыл бұрын
That's simple. I don't personally feel the fit is secure enough with the XM4 and I'm not 100% happy with their comfort either. I rather use proper workout buds for exercise anyway. But if you want some all purpose buds and use them for your workouts, any buds will be perfectly fine to be honest. But I say this in my videos that is up to you. Fit can vary so much from person to person and all I can do is share my own experience with each bud I use. For example I almost lost the Jabra Elite Active 75T during one of my runs due to their not so snug fit in my ears. And those are real workout buds and people seem to love and use them all the time. Shortly, feel free to use the XM4 or the Sennheiser for your workouts, you will be fine more than likely...

@@AndysTechTone i appreciate your fast reply. I see, For a second i thought it was related to IPX4 rating not being good enough or non-silicon tips on xm4 being not usable for gym, i ve seen many users of xm4 in gym , some had small issues while running but most of them were happy about it. Now question is 1000xm4 or TWM2. Hard to decide :)

Hi Andy, thanks for the great review. I have one question that no review seems to answer: how are the volumes on these earbuds? I know it will depend on ear, phone, app being used etc, but since you probably tested all of them with the same exact things then please tell me, between the xm4, momentum tw2, m&d mw08 and buds pro. I own the xm4s but at max it still needs a little "bump" sometimes when I want to really jam to the music. You may not have used these at max volume, but if you did can you rank these in terms of volume please? And anyone else that has some of these earbuds. Thank you! I love the xm4s but depending on what is said I might have to try another one.

I have the sennheiser momentum 2 and I can use one ear bud 🤔
@AndysTechTone3 жыл бұрын
Yeah but only the right bud works on its own and not the left which means it's only the right earbud that connects to your source device and it relays the signal on to the left bud. Single bud mode means that both earbuds can connect to the source independently from the other

Hey Andy! Stumbled across your channel about a few days ago and really appreciate the reviews. I've been debating whether to get the Momentum TW2 and MW08. I'm really a sound guy, but I'm also trying to pursue an active lifestyle. The MW08 also has a sport version, that supposedly has the same sound as the mw08, just for 50$ extra for the Kevlar-now-wireless-charging case. What would you recommend for someone who wants a truly enjoyable listening experience and one who can really hear the details and subtleties of the music.
@AndysTechTone3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to test the MW08 Sport so I'm not sure if their fit is snug enough or not. The Sennheiser buds sit tight in my ears. With some foam tips you can improve the fit even further so I'd say give the Sennheiser a go especially at a discounted price
@wyatttaliancich29473 жыл бұрын
@@AndysTechTone Thank you for your recommendation Andy! Which would you say has a better sound? My preferences are a mostly natural sound, with deep, resonant bass. Which earbuds, between all of which you've tested, really allows you to enjoy and hear nuances in music while still maintaining clarity and resonance? Again, thank you for the quick reply, I appreciate it! 👍
@AndysTechTone3 жыл бұрын
@@wyatttaliancich2947 The Momentum TWS2 are a bit more balanced sounding with a tactile bass while the MW08 are a bit on the warm side with a less extended top end. I don't know how much detail you need to enjoy music but I enjoy them both for sure. Other buds with great sound (in my opinion) are the B&W PI7, Kef Mu3, Jaybird Vista 2 and the Sony XM4

Does the sound quality on the pi7 make it worth the price? If not, which are the best sounding tws earbuds you've heard?
@AndysTechTone3 жыл бұрын
In short no, the PI7s sound alone is not worth the premium price tag. My favourite earbuds in terms of sound are the Kef Mu3, Bose Sport Earbuds, Jaybird Vista 2, Sennheiser Momentum TWS 2.0, M&D MW08. Don't ask me to pick one though...

I run three times a week (10km) and walk (12km) the other 3. Rest one day. I own - 1) Jabra 85t and use it while I exercise and out. However, I have problem. It disconnects itself and reconnect back several times a day. And it’s left earbud is not stable. Maybe electrical interference. It’s fine when I run in parks. 2) WH-1000XM4 I use this at home for work from home confo calls and meetings 3) Sony LSPX-S2 I use this when I want to listen to vocal singing. So the only question here is. I love sound quality and I need my buds to be able for outdoor exercise. Should I turn to vista 2 and junk my 85T? It terms of sound quality both are the same? Or should I try Gemini? Thank you
@AndysTechTone3 жыл бұрын
I'd say get the Vista 2. I believe they sound much more balanced and open than the Jabra but it's down to personal preference and of course there is EQ in both apps too. But my go to running buds are the Jaybird Vista 2 for sure

The Elite 85T have a great sound, bit bass heavy but the Jabra app has custom EQ. All differences between these buds come down to personal preferences anyway and no matter how good some earbuds might be if you have no access to them
