The TVs come out slowly and you are not replacing them often. The next time you'll replace your TV is probably in years away. Digital Foundry deals with games that are coming out all the time in large quantities and that's the place where you want to keep your eyes on. RTINGs do the best job of covering TVs but this slow cycle is the reason. The last time I visited their site was when I bought my Samsung KS7000 back in mid-2017 and now I'm replacing my TV again, preparing for the next gen consoles. I didn't subscribe at the time because it took more than 3 years to watch their TV reviews again. I hope you understand now better why they don't have so many subscibtions.

I personally like seeing new TVs reviews every now and then but for most, once you buy a TV, it feels pointless to watch videos of other TVs you have no plans to buy.

Lol, its a shit tv trying to make you think a software update can give you 2.1 4k 120hz, when the spec sheet clearly states 4k at 60hz even with 2.1

An honest review from someone, who didn't bought this TV for gaming, but for watching Movies, ect.: I got the 55 inch version of this. I previously owned a 7 (or so) year old Sony 35 inch Full HD TV and i was expecting this new TV to be drastically better than my previous one, but i wasn't ready for this high quality of a picture! It exceeded my expectations! Sure, i was coming from a old Full HD TV to this 4K TV and you could say that that's why it blew me away, but many of my friends already had 4K TVs from various Brands and none of them compare to my new TV. Black level and blooming: Thanks to the lockal dimming the blacklevels are insane for a LED TV. I so often felt like i was watching on an genuine OLED. Blooming is only noticeable if you turn off the light and even than you really have to look hard to notice it. Even with subtitles in black bars the blooming was hardly even there. It's only when you're viewing the TV from an extreme angle in the dark that the blooming becomes properly noticeable, but as long as you're viewing it straight up or at an slight angle, blooming isn't an issue with this TV at all. All those blooming test videos of the x900h that you see here in KZbin make the blooming look much more dramatic than it is in real life because those tests are filmed with a camera that overexposes light. Colours: Breathtaking! It has such rich and intense colours without getting oversaturated or unnatural. I don't know how they did that. My friend bought a Samsung QLED TV (i think it was the Q60, not sure... it was around 1000€) at the beginning of 2020 and it to has intense colours but on his TV the colours look definitely oversaturated and very unnatural. I helped him to adjust the picture but no matter what settings we used, he had to choose to have either rich but unnatural colours or to dail down the colours and have a boring but at least somewhat natural pictures. With Sonys trilluminus displays you don't have to choose. HDR and brightness: that's the category where i can't say really much because that's my first HDR TV and i don't have any experience with other HDR TV. I don't have a reference to compare it to. I can only say that HDR Videos from KZbin look amazing but like i already mentioned: i don't have experience with HDR. As for the brightness: this TV gets very bright. I have zero issues seing everything with the lights on or with bright daylight in the room. Bending: The only "issue" i have with the picture quality this TV doesn't display gradients as smoothly as some other TVs and it doesn't have any adjustment to smooth out gradients. That was a little bit disappointing because even my 7 year old previous TV had a functioning to smooth out gradients and this one doesn't. It isn't noticeable most at time but when there's an extreme gradient from very dark to light, than this TV will show noticeable "rings" in the gradients instead of a smooth one. But i can live with it because everything else about the picture exceeded every expectations i had. Speakers: i got the 55 inch model which has inferior speakers to the 65, 75 and 85 inch models because apparently it laks some extra sound features that the other sizes have. Nevertheless i was really surprised by how rich the sound was from the built in speakers! It is almost as good as my soundbar. Almost. If the other sizes really do have even better speakers, i can imagine that many people wouldn't even feel the need for an extra soundbar. The sound of this TV is definitely enjoyable without any additional solutions. This was not at all the case with my old and very thinn sounding TV. I also didn't experienced any issues with performance, connectivity or the speakers not working like some others have. As for HDMI 2.1: I can't say anything about it because i couldn't give any less fucks about it. I have a Switch and a PS4 and I don't believe that having a TV with a millisecond faster respond time will make me in anyway a better gamer. If me and you could enjoy our games on or old TVs without any issuses than this TV can for sure deliver in that department, with or without HDMI 2.1. I really don't get what the fuzz is all about. That's my review for the small amount of people who are thinking of getting this for watching and not for gaming. I say go for it! This definitely isn't a TV just for gaming.

Can I ask at what distance do you sit from the tv and how are you finding it at that distance? I've ordered a 55inch for my bedroom in which my beds headboard is about 11 feet away from the wall on which it will be mounted. I'm now thinking I should have gone for the 65 inch version but then on the other hand it would take up most of that wall space.
@mikipav1064
@mikipav1064 3 жыл бұрын
@@samarshad23 I'm about 3.5m (11 feet) away from the TV, just as you are, and i personally think that 55 inches ist just perfect and the sweetspot for this distance. I was worried to when i ordered mine and thought the same about making a mistake not going for the 65 inch version, but when i unpacked the 55 inch version, it was bigger than i thought it would be. In reviews the 55 inch version seems to be so small but you will understand how big a 55 inch TV actually is in real life when you see it for yourself. It's definitely not small at all. I'm actually glad that i didn't bought the 65 inch version because it would've looked really weird to have an even bigger TV than mine already is sitting just 11 feet away from me. But my personal experience can't guarantee you that you may find 55 inches to be to small because at the end this comes down to personal preferences and for my taste the 55 inch version is just perfect for 11 feet. For you it may not be but i believe that it will :)

Brilliant tv. I've had the 85" for 2 weeks now. Here are my findings in real world usage Cons: - lackluster off angle viewing and reflection handling due to the lack of x-wide filter. -some minor vignetting - some banding with medium/low quality compressed content . Pros : -contrast and black levels are really, really good. Movies on bluray and 4k bluray are a real treat -very accurate picture out of the box in the custom settings. This is really important to me as I am somewhat of a movie purist! -motion handling is superb, as usual for a Sony set. -the blooming is really well controlled. I've never seen any unwanted light spill over to the scope bars for example. You will see some on some extreme occasions, ie icon during a video game loading screen. Those who bash this tv for its low local dimming zone count haven't seen it in person, Sony has done a terrific job here. -the brightness is more than adequate in both sdr and hdr. It can get eye scorchingly bright. Why anyone would want even brighter, I don't know... - stellar gaming performance with no compromise in picture quality and low input lag. Tlou2 is cracking on this set. As is MW2 for that matter, both with impressive hdr. It's a great, great tv for dark room viewing. It replaces a video projector in my home theater room where its more obvious flaws (off axis viewing and glare) are irrelevant. I would buy this tv again in a heartbeat.

@Godzitan Owner of a 55'' x900H here, and I'd say that you're spot on with your assessment. I also have my set in my theater room/den for dark room viewing. However, I haven't noticed any vignetting or banding with medium/low quality content on my panel. Only some very minor DSE in the corners depending on the content I'm viewing, specifically when viewing medium/low quality content. But honestly, I have to look for it to notice it. Otherwise, no legitimate complaints here. I have an Xbox One X and a PS4. Games look fantastic on both, but I do notice games on the PS4 do look a tab bit better.

Well said, I have to echo all your positives and negatives, I have also had the 85in Sony x900h for a little over two weeks and I am blown away by its picture and game performance. I too couldn't imagine it being brighter, I usually run the set at 20-30 brightness at night in sdr content or games, hdr stuff in a dark room is super bright and makes me squint with some scenes. I got lucky with my panel and I don't see any dse, I do see like a tiny tiny little darkness in the top two corners but you really have to search for it and know it's there as well as have a slide up of a specific color or shade to see it. You do not see it during normal usage. I was having a hard time choosing this huge TV at 85in or going with a 65in lg cx/c9 for about the same price... I fell in love with the size of this screen, it is so impact full and immersive
@godzitan4018
@godzitan4018 4 жыл бұрын
It's a stunning set, I did mention its few drawbacks but they are very minute! In a dark room, this tv is really close to Oled quality, but the sheer size makes it a no brainer. Immersiveness is key, and with this level of picture quality, I would never replace this set even with a 77" oled. Or I would, only to sell it back!😋
@Charlbwoods
@Charlbwoods 4 жыл бұрын
@@godzitan4018 agreed! The problem I'm having is content looks so damn good in 4k and hdr, my old blu rays and streaming apps don't cut it! I used to never see the difference between 4k content and blu rays on my old ks8000 65in... But the difference is night and day on this beast!
@trevorsmithson8607
@trevorsmithson8607 4 жыл бұрын
@Charl Woods Now that you mention it, that’s exactly what I have in the top two corners of my panel. During normal usage it’s not noticeable and only rarely pops up when playing lower quality content. So maybe I’m exaggerating a bit with thinking it’s DSE I’m seeing. Then again, I’m quite OCD when it comes to any blemish in the picture. I wish I could’ve went larger like you both did, but my theater room is more intimate in size. The 55” is perfect for the space.

65” 900H here, no dead pixels, no uniformity issues, no bleed, no banding, no picture problems at all. Brilliant motion control. Dark inky blacks. Amazing set! And when they update it for HDMI 2.1 the PS5 is going to knock this bad boy out of the park! The Android menu system is lightning fast now too! Only issue is the slight reflections and I mean slight...but it isn’t enough to take away from a 10/10 score in my mind. Was considering the Samsung Q80T but the saturated colours and motion ghosting issues those sets are renowned for (and that I saw in store myself) led me to purchase the Sony and I’m glad I did. You will be too if you’re in the market for a future proof TV!

I went with the 75 inch x900f and I'm loving it. Sure it isn't perfect, but what set is? It looks great at night when watching movies. It handled the dark Harry Potter movies with grace (dolby vision dark). HDR highlights are much brighter than the numbers say they are. The trick Sony pulls, is by having such dark blacks, when the screen lights up its almost blinding to the point where you have to look away. That being the case i'm not sure anyone needs a "brighter" TV if they cherish their retina's. I wish the set were a little less reflective, as it's sitting in a bright room during the day. I guess it's something that thicker curtains wouldn't fix. It mostly isn't an issue unless you're watching really dark content mid day. But I didn't spend 90t money so I wasn't expecting that performance. Long story short, you'll be happy with this TV. Sure there are TV's that are brighter, darker, have more dimming zones, and this that and the other, but this TV does it all in the real world and it does it very well.

I'm sure overall the Sony 900H looks good but.... I just wish it was a bit more high end, also Rtings either got a bad panel, or there was some sort of bug because we have a large discrepancy between peak brightness reported by other reviewers, Or maybe panel size has played a factor? Rtings reviewed the 55 Inch while the others used the 65/75 inch. A Real Scene Peak Brightness in the 500's is rather Poor.... for a $ 1.400 dollar TV, I'd want to be at least at 800 +/Nits for HDR. In fact, I Think Rtings needs to test this TV's peak brightness again with a firmware update or buy a new Set. Preferably the 65 Inch. So as a gamer it looks like The Vizio P Quantum X will be my savior. I want that HDMI 2.1.

The 2020 TV's mostly seem to be underwhelming compared to their 2019 counterparts. A lot of them seem to be downgrades, or at best sidegrades in terms of picture quality. The only "leap" I can discern is HDMI 2.1, which I don't think is THAT big of a deal if your 2019 TV also has FreeSync/VRR as 120 FPS on even next gen consoles doesn't seem realistic.

It's a decent TV, but mostly a gaming focused one. Very few dimming zones tho, barely better than edge lit LCD in this aspect. 32 zones is laughable for 65 inch and up. Should have 3-4 times as many zones to be really useful. So you'll get haloing, clouding, bleeding and smearing like on pretty much LCD TV's. FALD LCD _can_ be decent but price is on OLED level or higher so it's not worth it. Can't wait for QNED or MLED, meanwhile I will be using OLED for sure. I'm torn between the Sony X900H 85 Inch TV and the Samsung 85" QLED Q80 Series 4k UHD TV. I've read that there are supposed to be firmware updates that will implement HDMI 2.1, eARC, VRR, & ALLM for the Sony TV. It would be insane if the firmware updates did not show up by the release date of the PS5. Once the firmware updates happens, will this TV be able to play 4K games @ 120Hz? Also for ALLM to work, does the HDMI cable have to be plugged directly into the tv or can it be passed through my Yamaha receiver?

Get the Q80, it's an overall better tv.

I was really interested in the x900h but even with the future update its reported the set won't support 1440p/120 so I'll wait for the vizio quantum series to see of they'll have 1440p/120 support.

I'd broken my x900f I need another tv with excellent motion and colour accuracy. Which I have to choose? I prefer another Sony tv: x900f, x950g o x900h? I don't like the X1 "simple" chip of x900h instead of X1 ultimate or extreme. Thank you

I purchased the 55" although I've read against buying the latest tv for next gen gaming, and that 2020 was a terrible year for tech. But I didnt have much choice. i like it out of the box.

So essentially one of the best. And thankfully not another TV ruined by attempts to make it more pleasant from an angle.

In this reviee it says the tv does not support 4k at 120 Hz. does that mean there is no gaming at that resolution ?

Update: the 1,2 are reg 2.0 HDMI and the 3,4 or the 2.1 HDMI outputs of this helps. BUT Sony announced that it has to update the software to “activate “ the 2.1 HDMI on the tv and that should come around the drop of ps5 Nov. 12th. UPDATE: oct 17th check out content video I put in comments. update your firmware it’s now available!

Seems like the X900F from 2 years ago was a lot better in quite a few ways not the least of which being HDR Brightness

VulturePilot I keep seeing the HDR brightness being brought up in comment sections and forums. As an owner of the 55' x900H for three weeks now, I can confidently say that the brightness in HDR is more than enough. Movie viewing and gaming in HDR look absolutely stunning. However, I have mine set up in my theater room/den, so I'm sure the dark room viewing plays a part in my experience.

I have both, they are similar. H does a better job with local dimming. If you love the 900F then you’ll love the 900H as well. Yes, 900F is a bit brighter, but not by much in real world setting.

Can anyone explain to me how we ‘don’t know’ which of the ports is HDMI 2.1? Isn’t there a visible difference in how they look or is it literally just going to be a firmware update sometime which instantly allows HDMI 2.1 to work?
