I have the 65' X95L and its a BEAST. I am watching all my favourite movies again in 4K. What an incredible Beast of an TV. No way that any OLED is better than this. ( burn in risk, brightness level, vivid colours ) etc....

OLED will always have better, more vivid colours. They do burn in and not get as bright though

The burn in can be an issue, but there have so many generations of OLEDs, they have that issue covered well.

Oh no I promise OLED is better and QD or MLA OLED is even better than that. It's something you don't realize until you get an OLED. Our eyes only know what we show them. It's like thinking 77 inches is big until you go to 85 inches. And then thinking 85 inches is big until you go to 100 inches.

I own this set after finally seeing a worthy and true successor to the Sony 75Z9D. This set has been a revelation in the picture that I've gone back to my library to rewatch older reference titles. It has a jaw dropping picture and I personally think (my opinion of course) that it has a more exciting picture presentation than any OLED out there.

@@slideman2007 I haven't but someone on the X95L owners forum on AVS Forum has both sets. He said the only upside is HDR specular highlights on the G3 but he prefers everything else on the X95L. You're welcome to ask and maybe he can answer some of your questions. He also calibrated both sets himself if I remember correctly and he said the X95L gives you pretty much everything the G3 gives you but it does better with black shadow detail and the Sony processing just adds more realism to the picture. Needless to say he said both sets are fantastic but he finds he is always more impressed with the X95L than the G3. Edit: that's right he said HDR content looks so nice on really bright colors where the G3 loses it's color on the high end because of the inherent technology with WRGB OLED subpixel structure. So bright colors keep their color saturation on 85X95L vs. losing some color as colors get brighter. I know QD-OLED has remedied this issue since it uses a more traditional RGB subpixel but it doesn't come in sizes higher than 77" at the moment. QD-OLED also has other new issues to contend with.

Wow!!! What a great review! From other reviews, I knew this was a great TV, but hearing it from you, it clinches it for me! This is the only non QD-OLED I would even consider getting. The off axis viewing looks amazing! Sony processing and upscaling is also great, and the XR Clear Image is a feature I wish I had on my A95K, the best TV I have ever had and which I just love. However, 85 inches is just too large for my space, so (Darn!) it will have to be a 77 inch A95L for me!!🥰 I really appreciate your LED primer as well as the detailed NIT Nerd section. In puhticular, you make learning fun and interesting. And your humor is always welcome and enjoyable! Great, great job!!

I saw the X95L next to a G3 and was quite impressed. OLED gives you more of a three-dimensional look and is more punchy and vivid. On the other hand the X95L looks very pleasent to the eye with a more natural or mat look. It has this cinema kind of look which fits perfectly to a 85 inch TV. Comparing it to an A95L 77 inch it is no easy choice here. The QD OLED is smaller and way more expensive and still has some ABL and ASBL issues you don't get with the X95L. I think this TV is the real deal for all cinema lovers and they shouldn't get OLED FOMO here. Sony will win the shootout this year in both categories, OLED and MINI LED... :)

A95L in 77' comes with £6000 price tag over here in UK. That is around $7500. X95L 85' is around $5000, I wouldn't exactly say 'not an easy choice' to be honest. I can't possibly justify 50% price difference even thought I am yet to see A95L in person. It should be out next week and I can't wait to see it. Still, £6000 is way too much in my view. Give it a month or two and it will drop to £5000 if not more as it will simply not be able to compete with LG when it comes with pricing.

I must have watched this review at least five times because it's so good telling me everything I want to hear, thank you again! A 10/10 is an amazing score, 85" is what I want, it's dropped in price by about £2K/$2.5K compared to the new BRAVIA 9, so is the B9 worth the extra... a BRAVIA X95L v BRAVIA 9 would be a great follow-up if possible...

I have the 75“ version of the X95L (in Germany) and I totally agree: it IS the best LED TV…! No DSE, no vignetting, no vertical banding and barely noticeable blooming - also perfect motion handling (no low frame rate problems) and swift OS….

Whereas OLED's have: lower fullscreen, larger highlight, and SDR brightness. Auto Brightness Limiter (ABL) making the screen even dimmer half the time. Many hoops both you and the TV have to jump through in order to stave off burn in. Even without burn in there's still natural organic-pixel degradation. For the new QD tech there's Quantom dot activation from ambient light making some of the blacks more grey, which takes away some of the almighty infinite contrast. Also there's alot more black crush on OLED's than you'd think (google it for more info). And all that - for not having a bit of blooming and a bit better colour range? No contest imo. This review is potentially *the* biggest and most important, though he said that apparently outside of the US the the other X95L's are using a different panel? i'd be *very* interested to find out what the differences are in performance...

in retail mode most if not all TVs show higher color saturation because that's part of what makes the wow factor when you see it in stores. the picture will look different outside that mode.

Like @RealLifTech187 said, TVs in retail environments are all set to vivid mode (or whatever the brightest mode for that manufacturer is. That is why you have nuclear neon greens on Samsung TVs at retail. Sony typically has the most accurate vivid mode out of all of the brands, but it still isn't what you should be watching your TV on if you want good color. I sell TVs as a part-time weekend job. Samsung knows what they are doing with their vivid mode. Many customers will buy for those oversaturated blown out colors.

@JonathanAcevedo13 Nice, congrats! It really is just a different experience once you have it set up in your home. I had some trial and errors as I got use to mine but just make sure when you turn your tv off for the day, it's off for about 7 hours to allow it to do panel refresh. I wasn't doing that and one of my games UI was on my screen permanently. I thought I had the dreaded burn in effect after just a couple of weeks. I did a force restart to make it do a panel refresh on start up and it was back to perfect. If you're stepping away for just a short time, there are screen savers but instead I click the option to turn my display off while the tv is still on. You can add it to your menu bar.

That being said this review and most of your recent reviews seem to be 75% explanation of your process, explanation of miniled is OLED is, QD-OLED is etc etc etc. People want to see the product content on the product, the nitnerd stuff, your opinion and overall review. These TVs are out of stock EVERYWHERE. Lucky you! Even Sony, itself, is out of stock. I tried buying the x95l through Amazon about a month ago. I waited for the delivery guy to show up and it was a no show. I called Amazon and they confirmed the TV was ordered but they said they’re supplier does not have any I stock. I waited a week or two and ended up cancelling the order. I am checking the web sites twice a day and I cannot wait for these to be in stock again.

It's a shame the X95L has such a drop off in picture quality for gaming, with such limited options for adjustment. It's clearly the best 85" for HDR media content, but the QN95C is far better as a gaming TV at just a slight step down for HDR content. Had to go with the QN95C, and have been very happy so far.

The Sony X95L is a better TV than the X95K. It has a more powerful processor, a brighter backlight, and a higher native contrast ratio. If you are looking for the best possible picture quality, then the X95L is the better choice. However, if you are on a budget, then the X95K is still a great TV.

I wound up with the X93L Just didnt have room for the 85 inch. Went with the 75 inch. I couldnt even find the x95L in 75 inch. Super happy with the 93L. Stunning picture quality.

There is an owner who owns both sets. He said that he thinks they are both fantastic sets but he finds that he is more impressed by the Sony because the overall picture is more realistic. Make no mistake this set is on OLED level without being OLED. But you also have the pros of no burn in and no APL. That is what he said was the most impressive thing to him especially in brighter scenes where OLED APL kicks in hard and just doesn't have that realistic look in outside bright scenes. I've owned OLED and LCD sets and this has been the most impressive set to me. The 85X95L has better black level detail to me than any OLED I've personally seen while have full picture brightness that doesn't dim even if you pause the screen on the scene. It maintains that brightness for at least 5 minutes. It really is in my opinion the best TV ever because it has the best of both worlds.

I would take the X95L over the QN90C every day. Samsung crushes details, has discoloration problems because of the dimming algorithm and so on...

I own a Samsung and can canfirm the issues. The X95L is the better TV. Samsung not only has issues with the dimming (and details) it also can have a lot of bugs and glitches in the OS. I would not buy Samsung again. @@keithzastrow

I was really considering the Sony A80L at 83". This has me second guessing. The X95L is cheaper and brighter while having excellent black level and contrast. Maybe not OLED level, but enough to be considered.

Unless you're gonna be mostly watching in dark environment, an LCD might be a better choice. I have A90J and 95% of the time I watch it at evenings so it's fine. But for the handful of times I watch in daylight, I had to use blinds/curtains as it's definitely a factor.

Buy the 83“ a80l, I’m doing the same. The 83“ a80l is a special one. It got a heatsink and is glossy compared to the smaller sizes. Don’t listen to this guy. I have a lg c8 77“ oled and it’s doing super great in daylight. No curtains needed what so ever.

They do it to retain picture accuracy and refrain from losing picture brightness details. Also it's done to protect from burn in damage. The brighter OLED gets the faster it burns out.

Get the 85X95L, every OLED owner who has upgraded to the 85X95L loves this way more than they did the OLED they came from. Most of them upgraded from 77A90J and LG C2. One of them has the LG G3 in another room and he said he found that he enjoyed both sets and both were fantastic but he found himself always being impressed by the X95L level of realism so he spends most his time viewing this set. This set isn't your typical LCD set. This is the kind Sony releases every once in a while. Like the previous legendary 75Z9D which was also ahead of it's time.

Thank you for the review. I have 65 inch X95L (I live in Europe). Picture quality is great when watching high quality 60 fps content (mainly demos), but in my opinion this TV struggles with low frame rate motion (24,25,30 fps) no matter which motion settings I apply (I've tried several configurations). Motion is the most important part which is very often neglected in TV reviews...

Motion definitely needs to be figured out. Right now, companies are focused on brightness (and dimming zones for LEDs). Hopefully, motion handling is next. I don't think I'll buy another TV unless there are significant advances in motion handling. When I upgraded from a B9 to a C2, I was surprised that there wasn't much improvement in that area.

I don’t understand why the black bars are sometimes grey and pitch black on other content? Coming from an Oled tv I think this would bother me , it’s a shame because apart from that it looks like a great tv and at a very good price too

With this price, customer can buy tcl 98 inch TV, trust me, no matter how good the picture quality is, the larger the size the better the experience. If your room can fit for large TV, go for it. As large as possible. I have sony last year version 75 inch 95k in my living room and this year i chanhed to TCL QM8 98 inch, oh my god. Shocked me. TCL QM8 picture quality is similar to my Sony x95k but since it is 20 inches larger, it gives me impressive feedback. So similar price, go for large one. Without comparison to other TV, you are not able to tell how different thr picture quality is, but the screen size you can feel. I am currently so satisfied with my QM8, some of my friends stopped by and get shocked as while and planning to buy it on black Friday.

Something he doesn't mention.... After playing around with demos on that TV, the 77' and up is okay "ish". Close to OLED blacks, about 95% of the way there in most scenarios. But, below 77', say 65'..... Mini led bloom and contrast (because local dimming is "smaller" and more noticable) are bad and make it the same as a traditional led. Samsung has 2x the local dimming zones so their qn900 is much better in smaller sizes.

I just read an article the other day and it says LED TVs do not degrade over time like all OLED TVs. I have a Sony LED from 2011 and it still works like brand new.

@@shmookins I mean the regular lcd's do not depend on the mini matrix leds at the back of the panel. So they're less susceptible to failures in probability. While the local dimming is what is one of the key features on which mini led tvs live on as their USP. Hence wondering. It's easy to find out if some of the oled pixels have burnt out at the front of the panel. But that'd be difficult to find out if some of your mini leds at the back of the panel have gone out.

You can't compare a tier-one TV like the Sony X95L to a MUCH cheaper tier-two TV like Hisense U8K and claim the Sony X95L as the best LCD TV ever. To make this claim, you have to compare tier-one TVs from different vendors. You should review tier-one TVs like the Hisense UX and do a comparison with the X95L. The 85 inch Hisense UX is also comparably priced to the X95L ($4500 US).

After my last Sony 75xd9505 where the lcd tcon broke after 4 years. I never going back to a Sony, as they don't keep spareparts. Also it don't make sense that Sony decide to only go with 2 hdmi 2.1 and a price that exceed a oled.
