Is there a way to send you devices to be repaired i have this same exact unit but on start up it goes straight to the radio and doesnt let me press any of the buttons on the front really want to get this unit fixed

Thanks for sharing this video on how you fixed this radio. Any advice on how to learn how to solder? Thank you
@TheRetroBen3 ай бұрын
@@derranrobinson8229 thank you, soldering is actually quite easy with some practice. There are many videos out there with tips... Maybe I should make one 🤔. For starters get a good temperature controlled soldering station such as a Weller or hakko, some can be found on sale for a decent price. I have an old Weller station that I have had since 1997, so if you get a good one they can last a very long time. There are also practice circuit boards that you can purchase to learn with. Practice makes perfect, I just realized I have been soldering for over 40 years now 😳... Wow I'm old.

The TS100 and TS101 soldering irons actually make great beginner irons.

Can we bypass it like you did at the beginning of the video with the rca or if it damaged/fried we can use the head unit and get audio out of speakers even with an external amplifier?
@TheRetroBen3 ай бұрын
@@blackwolf1mwp746 it is possible just remove the bad chip, however the amplifier chip is also what sends out the amp turn on 12v signal on the blue wire, so you wou have to run your amp turn on to a switched power source. I was going to do this with mine as I run external amps and don't need the speaker outputs on the head unit, but I found the chip on AliExpress for really cheap so I decided to just replace it, it made a good video also 😁. Thanks 👍

Do you know if the flex cable from the screen to the motherboard can be extended, for remote mounting of the screen?

I have a XAV-AX7000 doing the same thing. Do you do repairs for people?
@TheRetroBen3 ай бұрын
@@roger17sylvester sometimes I do but I am very busy with work and other things so my turn around time can be quite long 😞

I have a AX5000 and the yellow video RCA for the backup camera doesn’t work. I thought it was the camera but I troubleshooted with 2 other camera, wiring, etc. It has to be the yellow rca port. I tried cleaning it and nothing. Do you have any idea if this is board related?
@TheRetroBen9 ай бұрын
Hello, it is possible, however on my 5500 there is an option under settings to completely turn off the yellow camera input, I would definitely check that. Also be sure the reverse camera input wire has 12v on it when testing the cam to activate the yellow input. I hope this helps.

Hello! I currently own a Sony XAV-AX3200 and it’s blowing fuses as soon as I connect any sort of power to it, whether it be to the harness or even directly to the battery. I’ve bought a new harness as well and it still does so. I was wondering if you may be able to help me troubleshoot it?
@TheRetroBenАй бұрын
@@ellioth.a.3994 usually this is a fault of the same chip as in my video. Probably the easiest way to test is to remove the amplifier ic and see if it turns on, if it does this is most likely the issue.

Me puede ayudar con el número del transistor que esta a un costado del conector rojo del board

Hello Ben. Sos from a British lady here, essay warning. I have a Sony XAV ax 5550d stereo, looks very similar to the stereo in your repair. My fault is different, it has a dab radio built in. Bought the stereo second hand, with a magnetic aerial, swapped that for a windscreen stick on aerial BUT the plug was faulty and snapped the dab aerial port on my xav. 🥺 So now I only have fm radio, which in the uk is rubbish. Do you remember having your xav open when you made this video? Any idea what parts I need to repair this, or how to repair it please? Sony want £200 to fix it, which is madness. This is an sos, because no one else seems to have any photos or videos of the inside of my headunit. Im not a repair novice, and have a soldering iron, loads of screwdrivers and sockets etc, but no actual understanding of what part does what inside a stereo. Hence im trying to contact a competent person, such as yourself, before I remove the stereo to attempt a repair. (The removal in itself is a pain in the butt as its a modified retrofit, aka i MADE it fit using a hacksaw on my car's centre console area. Its a double din Sony, and my Mini was designed for single din only, but the XAVs are double din front, but almost single at the back. Its a known mod to my model of Mini, so I had others advice and mistakes to learn from/avoid, and a good idea of how to make it work. It was all going so well until I decided two aerials on my roof looked silly. 😢 All the scruffy bits are neatly tucked away in the void behind the glove box, and the cut bits are under solid original plastic trim, so are as safe as it was before i removed the original tape deck stereo to modernise)

Hello, thanks for the comment. As for you radio I am not familiar with the connection in question. Mine only has one connection for the antenna which is the big round hole on the back left. What is the exact model of your unit?

i just got this in my car but why does my audio sound worse than before. I made sure that I paid for a good one so my audio wouldn't get screwed up and it sounds like water is in my speakers now
@TheRetroBen9 ай бұрын
It sounds like one or more speakers are wired out of phase (wired backwards +and - swapped) that would make it sound like that.
