Pro tip on the Sony camera app: Swipe down for switching to selfie cam. Left and right for photo and video mode. For portraits. In landscape left to right for selfie cam and up down for photo or video. The manual focus in the Pro App helps for product shots of reflective products like the device itself where AF could be distracted by the reflection. As for cinema Pro. Complex != Complicated 4k Display helps a lot for VR as you can get 2k for each eye. Side sense is cool you can swipe on it for multitasking. Also adjust its sensitivity if you have trouble calling it.

Still sad Sony's mobile phones suffer poor marketing and availability issues
@troy55684 жыл бұрын
Availability wouldn't even be an issue anymore when you could pretty much purchase anything from anywhere in the world. As for poor marketing, there's simply no need for that, as they want the products themselves to showcase themselves. Besides, I would've hated fake marketing tricks like what most Chinese phone manufacturers do anyway, and I want my phone to be unique in its own way that not a lot of people know about it.

@kapilbusawah71694 жыл бұрын
It's pretty good to talk about the cameras but there's a huge part to this phone which no one ever mentions: battery management. The phone has systems like HS and adaptive charging. Most people aren't reviewers who move on to the next one. Most people keep their phone for 2,3 or 4 or more years and the first thing people notice is that the phone doesn't last as long as it used to. With new phones emphasising high wattage charging (>15W), the cells in the battery degrade quickly and companies aren't doing anything to reduce battery degradation except for SONY. Unlike other brands which may see upwards of a 20% battery decrease over 3 years, the battery systems in SONY keep the performance consistent as when the phone was purchased. So while a 4500mAh phone might out last the phone and charge quicker, in 3 years you'll need a powerbank like a life support for the device. It's really important but no one is really talking about it

Auto / P / S / M, which is you favorite setup in Photo Pro. If you use the Auto or P setup up, which has less settings? When you say manual use up more time on photography why don't use Auto and P mode. From other reviews say the Xperia 1 ii camera capture the true as real scene and natural-looking color, it not oversaturated no hell-like punchy color (dramatic) the photo. If a photographer they don't always want a dramatic photo, they always have personal taste and those dramatic photo is hard to revert into real scene, I have try those Huawei/Samsung revert the dramatic photo it is hard to revert into the real as what I see. It is not a photography enthusiasm, when someone say they love photography. I thought you were review the White Balance setting in the Photo Pro for this review , it is advanced than those fakes mindless dramatic effects but you just missing the review.

@troy55684 жыл бұрын
Photo Pro app has Auto HDR settings that captures literally as good images as you'd expect from say a Pixel 4 or a Galaxy S20+. That's the main solution to the problem, as Sony basically applies no HDR filters to the images, which is why they look flat (but natural) in comparison to almost every others. It's simply according to their standards in photography, where the software should not do anything to heavily modify the scene and maintain its accurate look. Even if you're not satisfied, GCAM is always available anytime, so you're essentially getting the best of both worlds in one phone. You'd hardly be finding any fault to this phone, unless you're a hater or a die-hard fanboy of other brands.

In HD and the video quality is HDR on regular use. Even if the video is not 4k, the quality is still more sharper than others. But in scrolling, the quality is 2k

It's almost 4K. But also keep in mind it's pentile RGGB, so total resolution might be less. Like with almost all OLED screens.

I also dont understand why it's a "niche" product. Are cameras a niche product then? There are plenty of people who take their photography seriously and want something more pro. Plus even aside from the alpha designed camera system the phone has all the bells and whistles you would want on a modern smartphone. I'm sorry.....but how is it "niche"?

Sony phones have less than 0.5% market share in the world. Even in Japan they're a distant second behind iPhones. They are niche. It's not an insult, man. Niche doesn't have to be bad.

@@bensgadgetreviews what does a sell have to do with a product that can do everything other phones do and more? I get blackberry phones being niche...only thing i see niche is the pro app...it's more than just a camera...I don't even care for camera, I like the display.
@peterdurum4344 жыл бұрын
@@bensgadgetreviews low market share doesn't make a product niche or bad. I can prove this phone takes better pictures in auto mode (basic app, PhotoPro app) than other flagships overall.

I wonder if Sony will allow you to change the display resolution to save battery

It doesn't run 4k all the time, that's why the battery optimization is so good. The display is same as every other phone when scrolling but the difference is when watching videos and especially 21-9 4k videos...that's why some ppl think 4k is useless but are not real long testing it when it matters lol

Hey Ben, your video says “no stream, tap to retry”... or is it just me? ;)

Pls try again. I think it’s cause the video literally just uploaded.

It was just me: now it is working! This device looked promising, but I strongly believe there is a good case for buying a £400 phone (like the iPhone SE 2020) coupled with the Sony ZV-1 to get the best of both worlds... don’t you agree?

ben's gadget reviews it is well-deserved Ben. I remember when you just had a few thousands subs: you really bring a different take on tech reviews, more hands-on, experience based and with no BS. You focus on user experience which is much more valuable than any super slick, b-rolls packed “reviews” from well-known youtubers focusing on the positive of the devices... 🙌🏻

I like your fair review, the side sense feature can be adjusted in settings, I think if you tinker with it a little bit more, you can get much better results. Even though you don't think this camera is top 1, 2 or even 3, I personally think a pro photographer can indeed make it look like #1. The computational photography result of the pixel and iphone is truly terrible. If you look at any image produced by their A.I. on a large display, you will quickly see many many flaws! For the "average Joe" it doesn't matter I guess, since most of their photos will just live on their small displays on their mobile phones. However, the Xperia 1ii, is intended for the exportation of images, and editing using the Adobe Lightroom work-flow (soon they will support raw format which will crush every other camera phone out there). So, you cannot really compare the stacked A.I. image of the Google pixel to this camera. The Google phone is taking multiple exposures and is using "software stacking" and "merging" to produce that result, you can do that with your Xperia 1ii as well! Just take a few shots with multiple exposures and stack them in Lightroom and you'll get a perfect sky exposure regardless of conditions. A better comparison would have been your A6500 single shot results v.s. the Xperia 1ii single shot results. Comparing stacked augmented A.I. photos to the performance of a single shot exposure is really pointless in my humble opinion. I'm sure you can find a 3rd party app that will do the same thing on the Xperia 1ii's hardware (and probably produce a better result than the Pixel). Additionally, you mentioned the P40 having a bigger sensor, sure, but the 12MP with the Sony sensor (even if it is a bit smaller) means that the sensor can collect more light and therefore it can outperform the P40 with speed and color accuracy in low light conditions.The lesser the mega pixels and the larger the sensor the faster image capture becomes and the better the low-light performance is. This is why Sony stuck with 12MP's! If they did anymore mega pixels given the sensor size, the images will start to be soft and not as sharp!
