Allen Rocka stop this rubbish...They use auto because 99% of the people spending their hard-earned cash won't be expecting to use manual mode. If you wanna buy the phone you can go ahead but the trash reviews only put pressure on Sony to improve their software the way Oneplus (overall improvements) and Samsung (dedicated night mode) were pressured to release updates to their cameras after launch.

Shouldnt in fact all big dog reviewers then, do these kind of videos, saying and showing "you get exellent shots on auto by iphone, but on xperia you can get even better and more versatile results by its manual. So you choose what you find a better bang for your interest and buck, ease of use, or versatility of use. " But all I see is big dog reviewers just trashing Xperia for not doing autoHDR in its auto mode, and selfie camera, not even mentioning manual modes or HDR on Xperia. I see it as an OEMs different approach to a certain smartphone feature, and reviewer bias in reviewing that same feature, cause y know, he likes the other (iphone/pixel) approach better and keeps pushing for it, by trashing the phones that dont do things that same way he personaly prefers.

But yea, Xperia 1 is possibly the most underrated camera out there. People swarm around bright colors I stead though for some reason.

@@silvershock82 there are a few youtube vids explaining how the various settings work in different conditions. and apparently it saves all of your settings so you can just set it up the way you like. i never mess with camera phones that much but based on the couple vids i saw there's not all that much to learn, could be fun to mess around with sometimes when i'm bored.

Brilliant video! Would love to see more! I use Sony mobile since K800i (SonyEricsson) and owned 11 Sony phones since then. I can tell you, I use Manual HDR mode all the time except I need to capture some very fast objects (like a plane flyby). I posted some night pics to Instagram and people just don't believe that it's taken by a mobile phone. I'm currently using XZ1 Compact and XZ Premium, ordering the a Xperia 5 as replacement.

I personally prefer to wait aprox 0.5s before pressing the shutter, and then it takes way better pictures in superior auto. I've noticed that let's say you take it out of Your pocket, aim it and take a picture and then aim it again, wait before you take a picture and then you take it results are like in the video with manual HDR. Both superior autos recognised the scene as Backlight.

For night shoot use just superior auto,the quality is more good than manual. I think when using manual raw noise reductions not active. Using manual hdr in daylight only. If u want to use manual hdr ini night use the tripod

5:45. For Some Reason In Low Light The Xperia Doesn't Like To Focus Automatically. I've Manually Adjusted The Focus On Low Light Pictures And The Results Are Much Shaper And Surprisingly Brighter. Give It A Try. I Usually Go Max 10x Zoom On Something I Want Focused On And Adjust Till It Looks Really Pixlated And Not Blurry. Then Zoom Back Out And Take The Pic On That Manual Focus Setting. Try It Out It's Crazy!

Personally I prefer the choice of sony. users can still control their smartphone and have the choice between using or not the hdr. Most smartphone with the hdr auto have somes photos with saturated colors and gives a strong artificial look, Auto mode without hdr to have a flawless colorimetry

I would pick a camera that captures true-to-life colours over a HDR-balanced picture any day. The HDR adds a yellowish filter to the image and I ended filming 4k without the HDR because the video looks a lot better with natural collurs. The HDR should not be a manual-only, hard to find, option, it should be implemented in the auto mode right when the camera starts. It is usable, but just too impractical for the average user. But then again, you need to be special and more than average, to have a sony smartphone theese days :-)

I think the Xperia 1's Intelligent-auto mode takes really good pictures in most conditions, but you can obviously get the most out of the camera when using Manual mode. *I currently own an Xperia XZ Premium, and I often use Intelligent-auto mode when taking pictures mainly when it's light, and the pictures turn out great. But where the shadowy areas are, I usually brighten the dark areas up a little bit using Photo editor, it's easy to me. But if I'm taking a picture at nighttime, in the back garden or something, which I very, very rarely do, I'd use Manual mode.* In this video, I honestly think the Xperia 1 has a much better camera. The Xperia 1 will probably be my next phone. ❤

I'm a big Sony fan, my current phone is an XZ Premium, and you can take some amazing photos with the manual mode setting, But I do wish they'd improve the auto mode and allow HDR to be turned on through that too. The auto mode doesn't compete with Samsung, iPhone or Huawei... but the manual mode beats them all. However, there are some times when I want to take a quick photo and have to use auto mode.

I actually never use auto mode, even if I don't change anything in manual mode if all are still in auto is still does better than auto mode, almost everytime I try auto, it looks a bit brighter and more blown and most of times in auto mode I notice that it uses higher iso level which looks less detailed but more saturated and brighter but not natural look Btw I'm still using Xperia z5, other smartphones maybe different than sony

Forget this Experia 1, the Mark 2 is insane! All improved over all aspects. It already has the best screen and best quality sound. Now the the Mark 2 it has the newest lenzes on the market and the headphone jack is back! Dude...this phone already crushed ALL other brands. If you you dont agree,go look at the specs overall. If you go for quality then you always go for the Sony. Cant wait to get IT when it comes out for sale! And gaming on this phone is unbelievable. Even as watching Netflix in HDR 4K. Its SICK!!

The processing of the Sony camera is very good, but the same result can be achieved on iPhone with little editing. Unfortunately the opposite is not true: you might not be able to get back a neutral look from the processed Sony pictures. So in my opinion the iPhone is better because you can chose what “look” to use whereas with Sony you are stuck with the default one

Sure you can ask. Yes I played with all the setting. However when you switch on HDR you can no longer adjust the ISO. Only the shutter speed, white balance presets & exposure values are selectable.

By the next year Sony phones will be more limited, people on the west are not really even interested in knowing what aspects were improved compared to the previous generation, they decided that the phone was mediocre and incapable simply because the implementation is not the same as that of other popular models, as if copying was a rule, not even a mention about the new HDR or that it is already possible to capture in RAW, many people even does not know., the phone IS NOT perfect, in fact is far of it, but it's the best Sony phone right now. There will be people who find it a less "automated" option, the camera of this phone is for people who want to give that personal touch to their photos or videos, the screen is for those who are perfectionists in image quality. Not because automatic modes is not Sony's main focus (because it really never has been) means that the device is not capable of producing results similar to that of the competition. On the other hand, in Asia it has had a fairly good acceptance, it is the most successful Xperia in the last 4 years. People there take amazing night photos and small shorts recorded with CinemaPro.

Trouble with this comparison and indeed for sony is that smartphones are point and shoot cameras. I also note that the photographer when in manual mode was adjusting a few parameters. Same should also have been done with the iphone. In straight auto the iphone killed the xperia. With adjustments you can also improve the images taken on the iphone so its either you compare auto shots on both or manual on both. If you want to showcase what the xperia could do in manual mode, this video should have been and auto vs manual affair. Not xperia 1 vs iphone xs.
