The background setup looks fantastic. Great review. Stunning photos. I don't have this phone but it's so nice to know that there's a Pro phone like this that captures such natural high quality photos and also has RAW support and equally excellent videography abilities. People using regular premium phones don't realise how massively over processed their photos are and how much they are losing in fidelity and authenticity. I hope Sony let you keep it ..🙏

Thank you ^^ I was trying something with more contrast ^^ And yes raw capture is so nice :D Even if you use auto mode it still allows a raw capture. And agree, many look to processed, to act like they are "perfect" but that often leads to images that look very unnatural.

Probably because it's really more of a camera than a phone. And cameras are not released every year. New models are released every three or four years. Sometimes even longer. And it's quite likely that they will only release a new one when they can make a genuine upgrade. Just look at most smartphones that get released every year. Are they really all that different? They are minor iterations at best.

There is a rumor on Weibo that the Pro-I II for 2024 will bring a quad setup similar to the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, but using 64MP Exmor-T sensors, a one-inch sensor for the main camera and three 1/1.54" sensors for the ultrawide, medium and long telephoto.

Ive always said when it comes to you mate that you'd take beautiful photos with any phone, what makes these photos great is YOU primarily, you give someone this phone who has no idea about photography it would be a different outcome 😆. Sony phones are soo good to be honest. I daily drive an Xperia 5 II, with an android 14 rom. Still holds up, love it. Repaired another one for my brother, blue model, looks almost brand neww and came out at only 96€ ! Hopefully I'll get an Xperia 5 IV to repair next, although the seller seems a bit fishy...

This one seems to be, to me, like the P30 was: a great camera on an otherwise crappy phone (software-wise). I could see myself buying it to use exclusively as a camera IF I found a good deal on it. But since Sony withdrew from most markets worldwide, even here in Europe became hard to find good deals on their phones. Shame. (PS - I actually liked the unedited photos a lot more than the edited ones. That's a good sign in my book :P)

I have the Pro i and I love it. There are few points of criticism.Display could be brighter, software updates, 50 and 16 mm sind gut aber nicht überragend. In addition to the camera, the sound is also outstanding. I bought the B&W PX8 and in combination with APTX-adaptive and Qobuz it is simply incredibly good.

oh yeah it isn't perfect of course ^^ and like you said zoom could be more, 50 mm is nice, but I would like more, but that is where the 1V comes in, from what I heard after the latest update it is a lot better. then the 16mm it depends on the situation haha

Mmm depends, while auto will do fine if you ask me, it of course is a very different approach, and you do get more out of it using manual. The only thing that can make it a bit of a question to buy it is software updates. But in terms of camera it will still deliver that natural look you will see in photography

Battery life is ok, I would say around 6 hours of screen on time, heat didn't have that issue, but it is in colder temps, and it is now back to sony so cannot judge it hot weather

It's a very nice phone indeed....if you just need a very good camera which (sometimes) delivers outstanding shots. I wouldn't buy it now unless it's dirt cheap for a few serious issues: severe overheating, bad battery live, no OS updates anymore (security updates ar questionable too), no wireless charging, 2x zoom (not a zoom lens but rather a portrait one).

Device is very good, but it get overheating if you use internet and camera or video recording at same time, so i have to use airplane mode on this device, overall main focus is what you see from your eyes camera takes that , natural colour, like jems stone look same as naked eys pro i takes that, but only problem is 1 inch camera sensor is not seeing fully because of circular camera cut out, so sony should try rectangular camera cutout for this sensor, overall hires chip and 4k display is very good if you watch movies and with Android 14 audio problem is fixed (back in Android 13 past Android makes 44.1 khz to 48khz that resampling create noise but from Android 14 it fixed ) very good smartphone,

Xperia cameras are never about 1st impression. The "flat profile" turns off people who are used to Pixel, Samsung and iPhone's processed look. It is for people who loves to be artsy and knows the fundamentals of photography. As MKBHD and tech reviewers said - enthusiasts.

It without a doubt is aimed torwards those who love proper photography, and those who want to have control, and not that look you get with Samsung, google and iphones. You get a more natural approach, and I do prefer that. If you want auto amazing result, Xiaomi is the king on that at the moment, and I do love Vivo as well for it, but it has a different approach of course :)

So I would wait a little longer. The 1Vl is scheduled to be presented at the end of February. There may also be a Pro i 2 coming this year.With the Pro i you get a variable aperture of 2.0 or 4.0. That can make a difference here and there. Otherwise, as an owner of a Pro i, I say it's still great But I would also take the 1V or the 1Vl.1. The battery is better 2. The display is brighter 3. The camera has focus peaking 4. Software support...... But the Pro i is nicer😅 And the variable aperture.... Whether the sensor is better? From what I've seen so far I would say similar But the Pro i has its own image processor from the Alpha series... and a more complex lens made entirely of glass inside.Difficult but I would also take the 1Vl if it comes out

VERRYYY true!I kinda forgot that that is coming soon :O I am very curious what the 1VI will bring to the table! And even if it isn't a crazy update you will save money on the current gen :) For the lens like you said it isn't easy, but my preference probably is the 1V, not by a land slide, but always hard to call if you can't compare them next to eachother so you base it on different situations ^^ the Variable aperture is nice, BUTTTTTT do keep in mind in day time the effectiveness is somewhat limited, like longer exposure shots it isn't effective enough for (like a long exposure waterfall shot) because too much light coming in even with the lowest ISO, I hope to see some bigger differences, a f/10 would be amazing, but i doubt that will happen seeing how small that would be for a phone hahaha.

This is based on my LIMITED experience because simply put it is a review unit, and I only experienced it in colder temps, not in the summer. BUT in that time I haven't had the heating issues, but from what I have heard in the summer it can overheat when recording in high ress for a longer time

Any flagship phone from 2021-2022 with Snapdragon 888 and 8 Gen 1 made by Samsung will overheat especially if you live in hotter environment. Sadly the Xperia Pro I has that chip so expect it to have heat issue just like other phones with those chip. TSMC would later made the improved version of Samsung's flawed 8 Gen 1, solved the heating issue and has better CPU... it's called 8+ gen 1 found in phone like Motorola Razr 40 ultra and Nothing phone 2. TSMC also made the 8 Gen 2 found in Xperia 1 mk V hence it doesn't overheat, basically be weary of any chipset made by Samsung...their own Exynos chip reputation already on dumpster fire.

As far as Sony-India is concerned, sometimes the marketing/sales head in large corporations, who mislead the parent company and are the most dumb-ass idiots due to their stubborn and often impractical marketing strategies taught by the so-called IIMs. They had a 31.8% profit in 22/23 for consumer products and have good network of their own stores 'Sony Centre' throughout major cities, where they easily can accommodate a smartphone section. I am a diehard Sony user since 1999 and my last Indian retail handset was Xperia XA1 Ultra till 2022 bought in 2018 when they exited from smart phones market. Luckily I chanced upon this Xperia 1 ii which I am using presently.

I think you could have sold this better. - No videos taken from this camera? - no details on tthe specification and explanation on what sensors it has in detail on the back of the phone? - no close-ups of photos that fill the video, sepecially since the video is not in 4k? - no other talk about anything else of the phone? specs, size, haptics, price? - no comparison of the same photo taken with other phones to see differences? - no links to download original photos to take a look at yourself often the video taken from the camera you used to make the video was brighter and nicer looking just because what you selected to film. you could for instance have used this phone to shoot parts of the videos where the phone itself was not shown or used. Other than that, nice photos. I do not mean to say your review was bad per se, it gave some nice impressions. See my comments as ideas on how to improve your review.

It's fine :) and fair critics, I will say about specs, I didn't go into that because of the age of the phone. for the size and haptics, with my channel I focus purely on photography, so things like smoothness of normal software and so on isn't on my focus list.

I have a Sony Xperia 1 iv been 1 year, and any photos I take with zoom in any settings... The photos coming out blurry and washed out really bad , my mate has Xperia 1 V and he has same problems, can't believe I paid £1.299 for this phone really disappointed.

Pro-I (eye), not 1 (one). Do not think for a second that a phone can replace your DSLR, it can't. No phone on the market right now can, not for photos (especially if you shoot raw) not video recording. Phones rely on post processing a lot, you will not get the same raw quality like a proper camera. If you just want it to spit out pretty HDR jpegs, then yeah, good, buy an iPhone. Xperia line is big on hardware, but lacks on software, even when using better sensor technology it still looks worse than the competition, because again - phone photography is all about image processing...(jpeg)

I say pro 1 only i. A-roll, corrected it in voice over section :) and no I agree, no phone can, it is more youtube title stuff, i did a comparison not too long ago stating just, no phone can beat a dslr. And about sony, till a degree, if you want the quick shots, but with sony that isn't their aim, they want to give you the experience of a camera, not of a smartphone camera. And their is a big problem often with phones and processing, images really reflect that, often leading to images looking unnatural, and not like reality, with Sony it get's close to that proper feel because there isn't a system trying to help the phone and you out as much as possible

That's just how camera sensors are shaped. If you want to get every megapixel of performance from a camera, it's gonna give you 4:3. Phones lie to you by cropping the top and bottom to give you a 16:9 image. You're actually getting less when shooting in widescreen. If you want a widescreen image, you're better off doing the cropping yourself on editing. It even allows you to choose the framing.
