honestly I quite like the phone itself, my only criticisms relate mainly to Sony making rooting an even more risky experience than it already is, and the fact that Sony seem to really hate AMOLED which is a shame because this phone would look pretty sweet with an AMOLED screen. But for a general consumer this phone probably feels like a godsend

5k enemy ....interesting argument, but I'd like to counter it by pointing out that AMOLED is brilliant for saving battery, each individual pixel can be switched off just by making it pitch black. Also, what do gaming laptops have to do with anything? we're talking about phones here! Plus "there's no laptop gaming lcd use amoled" is a redundant statement given that the 2 technologies are physically different, with LCD the pixels are all lit by 1 giant backlight, and with AMOLED the pixels are all lit by individual bulbs.

5k enemy did you set up a black theme and a black wallpaper? oh and we're not as simple as you like to make us sound; my current phone is an XZ1 Compact and I love it! but I do miss the AMOLED screen I had on my previous phone, for one it doesn't blind me when I use it as a bedside clock, AMOLED is good for practicality and I've saved tons of battery with it in the past. you see? it is possible to like 1 technology whilst using another! if you don't like AMOLED that's fine but you can't convince me to hate it. oh and here's a shocking fact a lot of people miss: SAMSUNG AREN'T THE ONLY OTHER ANDROID PHONE ON THE PLANET! and obviously their screen on time is going to be worse: samsung are known for overbloating their phones whilst the Xperias are practically near stock, you're better off comparing to the Pixel phones

​@@kugatsujuunana7436 I had the XZ1C for a good while, it's interface was bit sloppy, but that's just how Androids was back then, and the front camera was imo not that good. But the form factor was just PERFECT. I lost the phone on a trip in Mexico, where I got a bit to drunk.... I went back to my iPhone SE for a period (but the shitty battery was killing me, and it was a bit to small), so later I bought a Samsung S10e. A great phone, but a bit to big and again a bit crappy front camera. But it really impressed me how well the Android system was working, was my first Android I felt like could compare with iOS's very responsive UI. Then I saw the iPhone 12 Mini leaks, I didn't believe it. Then it got released and I noticed how the dimensions was identical to the Sony XZ1C, (slightly thinner though). So I bought it on release day, and damn it's an awesome phone for small phone lovers like me. It has a few issues though, well no usb-c.... apple interface is less intuitive than Samsungs One UI. I quickly realized when coming from s10e and back to iOS. Actually my s10e was easyier using one handed, due layout of the back button. XZ1C was still a bit better fit, because of rounded edges, just made it a bit more comfortable to hold, but with a soft leather cover the 12 Mini is just as good a fit. What I miss most from the X1ZC, compared to 12 Mini, is X1ZC's perfect placed fingerprint scanner, instead of iPhone's annoying face-scanner, which is annoying as hell in these Corona times, where it doesn't work with the usual face mask..... I must say 12 Mini could have been the perfect phone. If iOS made a back button at the bottom, instead of the upper-left corner, annoyingly hard to reach, a fingerprint scanner on the side, and usb-c. And that annoys me, beacause it is a no brainer for Apple to do, but they dont....

remember the xperia x compact. fingerprint sensor is only disabled in the us market due to patent issue or something like that only inside us market and it is available for the rest of the world and is placed in an ideal and practicall position campared to its competitors cough(s8, note8) and works exceptionally well. even if you do live in the us you can simply install another region firmware to enable the fingerprint sensor simple as that (even a noob can do that if you simply follow instruction on xda or xperiablog ).

Now into my 3rd year with this phone and I'm KEEPING IT! No other upgrade compact phone for the price comes anywhere near the quality and specifications of this compact phone. Until I find another compact phone (I like smaller phones) of any Android brand that can honestly beat this phone for its camera, screen resolution, RAM and processing power, I'll quite happily stick with this phone. It is still plenty fast enough for my usage and the contract now only costs me £6 ($8) per month! Bargain! 😊 Maybe people can tell me which phone they SATISFACTORILY bought after this one. iPhone 8 is just $100 more expensive and has: 1 - Better screen Definitely a big no. Both I would say are equally as good, but neither one is better than the other. 2 - Better speakers Again a big no. The iPhone 8 on its own has an incredible speaker, based on how good is my sister's iPhone 7 Plus's speaker (which is of the same exact setup as the iPhone 8 & 8 Plus speakers), but the XZ1 Compact blows it easily away when we talk about quality. It's just a no competition. Considering the fact that the XZ1 Compact already has a loud enough speaker, there's just no real point of asking for more loudness with the iPhone 8, like these phones are made to be used as ambulance siren. 3 - Fingerprint Scanner that actually works Maybe, but the thing is that the XZ1 Compact also has one (if the user would have the eagerness to have it) and it's just as good as the iPhone 8. There's really no point of mentioning it at all.

+Johnny Pigman In my country only XZ1 is available and I only tried XZ1 in person, but I'm going to assume everything is the same as XZ1 Compact apart from display resolution. Then I decided to compare it to iPhone 8+ which was placed right besides XZ1. Compared to iPhone 8+, XZ1's speakers, in terms of clarity, were on par or even slightly better. Though the low frequency wasn't as good, and they sounded noticeably more muted. I would say the speakers were better on iPhone 8+, and this should be carried on with iPhone 8 and XZ1 Compact. Screen was nice, but I saw some annoying net-like patterns over the display. It also looked pretty mediocre, lacking contrast, compared to the amazing one on XZ which I had for few days last year. The colour accuracy seemed to be improved a lot, though. Now compared to iPhone 8+? Nah, it wasn't as good. iPhone 8+'s display could go brighter with more contrast, with roughly the same colour rendition. For the fingerprint scanner, I don't know. I couldn't try it. But many people say XZ1's fingerprint scanner works great, and i believe it is so. Though I personally don't like the lock screen animation where you swipe it from down to up while the lock screen slides from right to left. It simply felt awkward, but it might be just me.

Poor review based on personal preferrence not factual. Phones are getting bigger and bigger. Some people want a smaller phone. Probably because we dont spend all day on it. I have the Galaxy S8....I got rid of it. I like this phone better. Peace !!!

I also got s8, which started to feel too big. I bought iphone SE. Call me a sheep or w/e but I like it alot. Good battery and even smaller than this compact. And for me, being long time android user, its a brand new experience.
