I couldn't tell which I preferred, until the Z1R started, it sounds wonderful. I'm going to have to get it, if I don't I will end up buying multiple cheaper sets over time trying to get the sound I want. That is a sure way to spend more in the long run than if I just got the thing I really wanted. Another great video.

hahaha this is one of the most creative headphone reviews I've watched on KZbin. Subbed! One suggestion I would make is letting us sample a variety of genres so we have a better frame of reference for sound. Also keep the list of songs the same so in your future reviews, the samples would be very useful for us to compare and contrast between many different headphones. Otherwise, this was quite an experience. Thank you and happy holidays! :D
@bertreviews6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for subbing and the great suggestion! Hm, maybe I can post videos doing sound tests comparing headphones according to what people ask for (as long as it’s a headphone I own!)

@@bertreviews no problem! I really appreciate the work you put into your videos. ALSO, if you can let us hear the original recording (assuming you won't get copyrighted by KZbin) in between the switches, it would honestly be so helpful for the viewers.
@bertreviews6 жыл бұрын
Sure, actually you can hear (and even download the song) and I always include links to that in the video description. You can hear the song here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ65lZqNgZpoapo. I have to use copyright free music (and credit the artist in the description) or use music from the KZbin library, otherwise KZbin could shut down or mute the video. It’s a challenge sometimes finding music! I will keep your suggestions in mind!

I bought the Z7M2 based on this review, and after some listening at our local Sony store. Still burning in. I feel it complements my Sundara well. Sundara sounds more "airy" to me, and is open back. But it's bass is not ideal for me. I prefer the rumbling bass of the Z7M2, and the sound, while not so "airy", is more intimate and I can listen to it for long periods without feeling fatigued. Z7M2, being closed back, is different from the Sundara open back. Hope you return to reviewing audio again. Really enjoy your work, and it's great to see our fav Sesame Street characters. You have their mannerisms and voices down pat.

The Mr. Ears thing is brilliant. If you can get hold of some Focals to compare (Elear, Utopia) and Meze Empyrean, and any other higher end cans, that would rock. The Z7M2 and Z1R comparison is fantastic. They seem pretty similar, but being able to go seamlessly back and forth between the two using that ear mic is awesome, thanks!

@@bertreviews Thats great to hear! i'm super excited for that review :) can't wait to watch it! From the sound review, I definitely enjoy the Z7m2 sound, it feels more controlled, the Z7 despite also sounding good, sound a bit too wide/loose. the bass feels like it comes on a bit softer and wider than the more focused z7m2. i'm listening to the sound test on my personal BeyerDynamic DT1990 Pro and my source is the RME ADI-2 DAC.

Bert are you going to do a review of your Audio-Technica AT-HA5050H Hybrid Headphone Amplifier? I am very eager to buy but the only downside of it is there is no pre out and the price but then again I have not listened to it so I do not know if it is worth it in price.
@bertreviews6 жыл бұрын
Yes I am definitely planning to do a thorough review of the AT-HA5050H, but I am not sure when. It has a few unusual quirks, like no pre out, no optical input and for the price, no balanced headphone outputs (probably because Audio-Technica only sells unbalanced headphones) But the sound in my opinion is gorgeous, alive and organic, lots of body, layers of detail, great dynamics, punchy yet smooth, zero harshness, and so so refined. If I had to use a car analogy I would say it is NOT a Ferrari or a even a sports car - but a Rolls-Royce. So it depends if this is what you are looking for. I don’t think it’s an amp anyone can dislike for its sound - it is a great amp - but whether the price is worth it is really up to you. You can sometimes find a demo unit that a store is selling for cheaper than full retail. If budget is an issue, I very strongly suggest investing in the best headphones you can afford first, before an amp - even this one.

Although we tend to look for the “best” headphone, my opinion is instead to look for a headphone that is the “best for you.” This means to look for a headphone that: 1) Is a good fit for your genre(s) of music 2) matches your personal sound tastes 3) is a good fit (or at least not picky) with the source and amp you have available 4) matches your listening lifestyle (home vs portable, etc) 5) matches your budget So in your case I would ask myself, are you happy with the MDR-1A? What do you like or dislike about it? When upgrading, try to find a headphone that KEEPS much of what you like and also ADDS the elements you are missing. The HD 820 is a different beast than the Z7/Z7M2 line at a very different price point, so this has me curious about the five points above with regards to your situation. Be careful about chasing the “best” headphone - because honestly, there is no end to that search and it can end up costing you a lot as you pay to upgrade your gear. I have heard the the most expensive headphones in the world. They all do different things well and some not so well. It is like looking for a car - if you have 3 kids you will be miserable with a Ferrari because it does not fit your needs. Consider the points I mentioned above carefully and try to have clear answers for them, it is most important to be clear on what makes YOU happy about a headphone. What others consider to be the “best” may not be the best for you. Take care and thank you 🙂
@freesS36 жыл бұрын
Thank you for that quick reply. It's just that I want a more detailed listening experience, without anything overlapping certain parts. Because with my MDR-1A I get good sound overall, highs and midrange are clear, but sometimes the bass feels a bit too strong and overlaps the midrange. So I'm technically looking for very detailed headphones with a rather soft bass. Or well, the bass can be heavy and punchy, but it just shouldn't overlap the other parts of the song. That is also why I think that I should probably save up the money for the HD 820s, because they will probably provide me with that listening experience which I need. But I'm just not sure honestly. I drive my MDR-1As with a Sound BlasterX AE-5, which is enough for those headphones. And I mainly listen to electronic music. And I also need closed cans, because my parents will hear the music in the next room at night. I just feel that there are no good closed headphones for under 2000€. So it's pretty much like: you either spend a lot of money to get the Z1Rs, HD 820s or some even more expensive ones or you will be just stuck with an average listening experience :/ Sorry for that rant, honestly just don't know what headphones to pick :(

SO can you please advise me which one to buy? Z7 or Z7M2 if I look a some allrounder. Mostly I hear to rock and electronics, but sometimes i love to hear epic orchestral. I have atm Sennheiser 660s they are amazing for rock and epic, but completely "NO GO" for electronic music. That's why I wanna try sony. The second question(but not as important atm): Currently I have asus phoebus sound card. Yes I know it's so bad for that HP segment, but exactly that's why i'm planning to buy some audio equipment in the near future. Can you give me some tips what do I have to buy for that sony's? (planning to spend so around 1000 euro for dac/amp) :D p.s. like, abo - your channel is underrated :(
@bertreviews6 жыл бұрын
I prefer the bass on the Z7M2 to the Z7. If you have more to spend, for EDM some of the best headphones I have heard are the Fostex TH900 (killer bass), Z1R, ZMF Atticus & Eikon. None of the 3 Sony headphones in this video are picky or difficult to amp in my experience. I have some high end amps so I cant give you the best advice on amps in that price range. BUT, if this channel takes off, I hope to be able to get more amps and gear at different price ranges so that I can review and offer better recommendations to you! Thanks for your comments!

I just ordered the z7m2.... they better not release a z7m3 this year, or like a z8 or y7 or whatever is next. Ill be furious lol. Although, I have the Sony MDR-1am2 and I love them, but I want to upgrade. UPGRADE!!!!! Sony has the sunflower inner grill on the 1am2's as well. And I can say, these headphones sound GORGEOUS. So I can't wait to hear the z7m2 From your sound demo, the z7m2 have more detail and sound more rich. The z7m2 almost sound the same as the z1r, which makes me happy because I can't afford the z1r but I did just order the z7m2 from amazon. at another part of the song, the z1r is way sharper than the z7m2.
@Leo.SKDXL053 жыл бұрын
how did you like the Z7 M2? How do they compare to the MDR-1am2? Are you using a Dac/Amp combo or just a Dac?
@goblinphreak21323 жыл бұрын
@@Leo.SKDXL05 I was originally using my soundblaster ae-9 but that pos gave me more headaches than you can imagine (not working right) so I ended up buying the Topping DX7PRO and using that as my main source. Connected to my PC via USB. The z7m2 are more comfortable than the 1am2s since the pads are bigger. The z7m2 has larger speakers so the bass hits better. Not as much as bass as Sony's xtrabass lineup of headphone but enough to make music sound correctly. The z7m2 hits highs better than the 1am2s as well. Basically, the 1am2s are suited to low power even capable of being driven by a cell phone. While the z7m2 at 50ohm need more power to get the same volume level. With the topping, I couldnt go past -20 (0 is loudest) with the 1am2. The same volume level with the z7m2 is at -10 (aka needs more power). As far as the dx7pro, the audiophile community are retards. They cry that the "output" has an ohm of like 12, so 50ohm headphone (z7m2) plus output impedance ends up 62 total ohms.... What they dont realize is, sound quality goes up with higher ohm, but requires more power. Less ohms means you need less power but also means worse audio quality. Even in the car world, you wont see people wiring door speakers together to 1 ohm to gain loudness because the quality would suffer. Hell home theaters are generally 8ohm vs car typical 4ohm. And headphone go up to 600ohm to get that clarity. Audiophile community is funny because they constantly contradict themselves on what quality means.... One minute its 600ohm headphones next its leas than 1ohm output at the amp side.... Shake my head. End of the day, you get what you pay for. The z7m2 beat the 1am2s hands down. Just make sure you can drive them

@@goblinphreak2132 Thanks for the quick reply! I've been researching for a replacement for my Fostex TR-X00 Ebony since they have a cheap build quality but the sound is one of my favorites (smooth and strong clear bass). I currently have the AudioQuest NightHawks and the Focal Radiance but I truly miss the Ebony sound signature. I have the IFI Zen Dac paired with the Topping A90 amp for my main set up, but I also have the THX 789 paired with the Paw S1 portable dac for my home office set up. Both set ups have sufficient power and clarity. I've been researching the ZMF Atticus but tbh they are a bit too expensive for my current budget. I'm pulling the trigger on the Sony Z7 M2 mostly on this review and No Themes Review who tbh is one of my favorite audio reviewer on youtube. He did an in depth review on the Bass, Mids, and Tribble that really convinced me the Sony Z7 M2 are the replacements for my Ebony. Thanks again!
