It is a tremendous camera Best I’ve ever had. I use it as my main streaming camera. It is also excellent for vlogging, Pictures & Videos (with the right lens attachments) It’s shines in low light, so much so that I don’t have to use hardly any background lighting. The price for this camera is excellent too. I think I paid less than $800 with a lens kit. When I stream I keep it plugged in so the battery stays charged up no matter how long I’m streaming. This camera has size on its side to cause it’s really easy to handle and travel with. I mean Sony just knocked this one out of the park.

Check out this video for external power: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIXZYauGjbhsfdU I connect this way to external power when I'm filming, and the USB plug fits into the power bar I use for my lights and iPhone when I film. My camera is on for the filming session without worry about batteries. Since you have a cage, you can keep the SD/Battery compartment door open for the cable and access to SD card for changes.

While you will have hours of power if you use the camera plugged in to external power, you are limited to the capacity of your SD card. You have to really read the instructions for the dummy battery. It says not go use any adapter over 5 volts. If you do, you will definitely fry the camera, and they emphasize this in red with the included instructions. If you use the plug which came with the camera, then you'd be good to go!

Hi! With regards to using the power bank, I believe you are referring to the normal power bank that is rated at 5 volts output? Appreciate your advice. Thanks!
@TechTravelBeyond
@TechTravelBeyond 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ron! Yes. You cannot exceed 5 volts max output because you can burn out the circuitry in your ZV1 or other Sony A6xxx cameras. This is the one I currently use and it doesn't need an external charging cable: amzn.to/3J9ySIO It's also linked in the descrription Thank for watching!

Great video. Is there a reason why you prefer the dummy battery over just plugging the usb cable into a wall outlet like in your first example? Is one better than the other?
@TechTravelBeyond
@TechTravelBeyond 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is! When you use the USB method, you'll need to have a fully charged battery so the camera doesn't go into a charge cycle. When it does, it sometimes will shut the camera off because it exhausts the battery first before charging the battery. It can happen in the middle of shooting. The wired external battery replacement makes the camera think the power is just coming from a battery, and will never shut down until you turn it off or unplug it. Thanks for watching!

It may be your mic cable. If you’re using a long cable run and the mic doesn’t have a power source, a small hum will be in the background. I use the Rode Wireless Go and attach the lavaliere to the transmitter if I’m far from the camera and I don’t have the hum issue.

The power cord to my ZV 1 is causing a buzzing sound during playback. I tried plugging it into different outlets and still gets a buzz. There is no buzzing without the cord. The sound is nice and clear. Would a battery pack solve this? I want to do interviews with veterans and cant have any buzzing in the audio. I need enough power for about an hour and a half and I really don't want to have to stop the interview to change batteries.

Hi Kevin! An external battery pack may solve the issue. Also, the dummy battery is the best bet for a longer session. It sounds like there may be issues with your camera cord, or perhaps the electrical lines in your home. Hard to tell from afar. As far as the battery, make sure it’s mah rating is 3-4 times the capacity of the ZV1 battery and you may eek out the power you need. I’ve had my camera on longer with the dummy battery.

Hi! This set up is for stationary livestreaming with a broadband connection and your computer with the ZV1. If you can have all 3 and a continuous power source on the go, it will work (ie, in a sports booth, etc.) If you're a mobile user, an iPhone will work well because you can use streaming services via OBS, your phone, and you can hook it up to a mic, external battery. Depending on your phone, you can film in 4k and stream in 4k if you have the bandwidth. I don't stream on the go, so perhaps you might speak to others in your sport who do. Thanks for watching!

Side question - does this external dummy batter help with overheating issues?
@TechTravelBeyond
@TechTravelBeyond 3 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't have any problem with overheating while livestreaming with this setup. The only time you will have an overheating issue is with continuous recording within the camera. Once you press the record button, you're processing and sending video and audio data to the memory card, and this creates heat. When livestreaming, you're only sending the video feed out to your computer. I was on a stream for over an hour with the Zv1 .Check out this video at 4:26, to find out how to turn off overheat warnings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXbKiGSXhMqdm7c. Thanks for watching!

@@TechTravelBeyond Thanks for your detailed answer this makes sense. For some reason no one gives this distinction on the Sony ZV1 overheating videos and as a noob I didn't know to ask the question in a certain way (ie. streaming vs recording) because to me on the surface it's the same thing. But now that I think about it it makes total sense lol (duh!). Yea, I got the dummy battery and for 4k recording, I got the exact same results - ie. overheating around 30 min mark. Thanks for your response anyway it solidifies my understanding. I went ahead and get a 60mm USB CPU fan and have mounted it at the back of the camera (rubber band - hey it works tho). Today I will go out to try this mod as I heard good results from doing this in terms of keeping the temps down. Hopefully it works well.

Check your power source that you connect the dummy battery to. It should not output more than 5 volts, and some of the documentation for the dummy battery kit lists that. Try a different USB plug. Some of the newer USB plugs can output more than 5 volts causing the cameras circuits to not accept it. Hope this helps, Jeffrey!

It is possible that the usb power supply you were using did not output enough current. Voltage is just as important as current, although voltage must be correct and no higher while current can and probably should be higher than you need. The device will only draw the current it needs and the current rating on the power supply is its maximum it is capable of outputting.

Do I still need to enable USB streaming even though I'm using HDMI capture to be able to charge it. Thanks
@TechTravelBeyond
@TechTravelBeyond 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen. First, make sure your battery is fully charged so the USB cable doesn't have to do a charge cycle to the battery and provides direct power to the camera. If the battery isn't fully charged, it will use the remaining battery power, power off and make the camera charge the battery first before streaming. For settings, in the Toolbox/Settings tab, Page 3. Follow this: USB Connection: Auto USB LUN: MULTI USB Power Supply: ON. You do not need to enable USB streaming since the feed is coming from the camera via HDMI to the HDMI capture card. Hope this helps! The dummy battery in this video bypasses USB power, and makes the camera think it is using a full battery. I use this setup for studio filming of my videos!

You can record a video until the powerbank runs out of energy. But, here's an issue: when you run out of power, the camera will shut down, but it doesn't guarantee the file will close/save properly to your SD card. Time what you are filming according to what you need, and ensure you have enough power. You may have to calculate based upon the resolution and how you are filming (4k, 1080, etc). Also stabilization and other factors come into play so your power needs may vary. Thanks for watching!

Hi! The latest version of the Magfilter adapter is lower in length than the older one I used in the Ulanzi WL1 video. If you’re just using it for ND filters only and no wide angle lens, you won’t have the vignetting problem even at 1080. That’s been my experience on both the ZV1 and Rx100. Variable NDs are what I use for most outdoor videos except with the wide angle lenses. I don’t know in 3.2 photo mode because I haven’t tried that.

I have the VII and it mostly works just like the ZV1! The ZV1 came out right after the VII and you can use the same menu options and micro HDMI for output to the video card! It also uses the same battery, so the dummy battery is the same. Just get the right base so you can just leave the battery door open so the cable can connect to the external power.

Every time I try to connect USB power to my ZV-1 it just gives instructions to turn on USB Webcam and will not let me just use power from a power bank or wall adapter. It only works when connected to a computer and capture card or USB Webcam feature.

The capture card is the best way to connect your camera. When you use USB for video, it's at a lower resolution. See the camera manual...it's not even HD via USB. If you want to connect power, use the dummy battery for your camera, and you'll not have any issues.

so you have 2 options for continuous power? option 1, USB chord & setting to USB power on option 2 dummy battery? and both option can go to either mains power or an external big battery?

Yes! I outline some great options with the ZV-1, and for more information, always refer to the User Manual for best specs too: www.sony.com/electronics/support/compact-cameras-zv-series/zv-1/manuals Thank for watching!

Hey man. I have plugged my sony Zv1 into the USB on computer while on zoom, and it still dies.

Have you tried using the dummy battery in this video? Also if your doing zoom over usb, your computer may not be able to provide enough power to the ZV1. In this video I used the USB to provide power to the ZV1, and used the micro HDMI and capture card for the video signal. It’s true HD that way whereas via usb it’s not at 1080x720p.

@@TechTravelBeyond thanks the the reply. Even if I have the usb to the wall it still doesn’t stay powered. Strange. I guess only way is with a dummy battery. I will also try the hdmi instead. Thanks for the help!!

Don't use any adapter which outputs more than 5 volts. The included instructions for the dummy battery emphasizes this in red.
