OH MY GOD i almost broke into tears during chem class because i understood NOTHING! this video literally made me cry tears of joy because it was so helpful and more understanding, its like midnight and i don´t care about being tired tomorrow, at least i can sleep in peace being less stress in chem. Thank you so much, your videos are seriously helpful especially cause i have to reteach myself chem class lessons because my teacher is too confusing. again THANK YOU SO much!!! your a chem saver!

Hello Kritin you are correct the capacity of each shell becomes more complex with the addition of more sublevels - the important thing to note is that most of the outer most energy levels can hold up to 8. the noble gases are the only family that actually have 8 in their outer most energy level though.

Hey there i really like the video and they way you explain its really helping me out a lot, i was just wondering is a sublevel also called a subshell?
@sonyabirazian8921

a "shell" is another name used for an energy level- so a sublevel might be called a subshell

Sonya Birazian i was just a bit unsure because thats what the teacher in my class said about the subshell so i just got a little confused. Thank you so much for all your videos they are the best ones on youtube really clear an easy to understand i really like the way you explain things it helps so much :)

Sometimes, atoms beyond the 2 orbital will hold more than 8 in a molecule. Not a single atom however. Just 8. I think that's right.

1:27 and 2:48 she repeats the same incorrect statement twice by saying that ALL energy levels BEYOND the first one can hold NO MORE THAN 8 electrons. This alone turned an otherwise very good video into a confusing one.

I dont undestand... you explained that the max a shell can hold is 8, but as shown in 'n = 3' which has 's' 'p' and 'd', the total of the electrons in those orbitals can add up to 18. Please explain because i was also taught that the max a shell can hold is 2n^2 where n is the shell number or energy level.

How come we said every shell can hold only 8 electrons but then from the third shell you have over 4 sublevel each holding 2 electrons which means there are more then 8 electrons in these shells?

You say that each energy level holds up to eight electrons, but then you show an atom with four energy levels, that has s, p, d, and f subshells. If energy level four (n4) in an atom has four subshells, containing up to 2 electrons (for s), 6 (for p), 10 (for d) and 14 (for f) respectively, that's a total of 32 electrons in energy level four. But you said the energy levels beyond the first energy level can hold only up to eight electrons for each level. How do you explain that? That has always confused me. Thank you for any insight.

SHE IS A LIAR. This has caused me MUCH confusion. She clearly states in the beginning of the video that each energy level can have up to 8 electrons in it. She then goes on to contradict herself by using the formula 2n^2. This "each energy level can only hold 8 electrons" is false. I wasted too much time getting to the bottom of whether this was true or not. Watching this video was 10 minutes a waste of time. Will NOT be coming back here again.
