It Ends With Us, the first Colleen Hoover novel adapted for the big screen, tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.

As a victim/survivor extreme violence from my ex husband and the father of my children, this would be a tough one to watch. Especially the words "one day you have a daughter and she came to you and told you the person she loved was hurting her, what would you say".... I said those exact words to him when our daughter was born... And then I had a son, and the fear of them being harmed mentally or physically, drove me farther away than being s/assaulted or being strangled. We got out 7 months after he was born, being nude and left for dead in the garage whilst he took off leaving our children alone and in bed, having my 2 year old find me and essentially save my life, we left the very next day. Hurts to see movies that portray or even romanticize these sorts of relationships, I know it's only a trailer for a movie but jeez, I wasn't mentally prepared.

@@stephoso Well I met him when I was 15. We started dating when I was 18 and I was pregnant by 19. He is 12 years older than I am. I am now fully convinced he groomed me way back when we first met. I didn't know the reality of how bad it all was until I was too far in, the red flags were there but I was so deep in the middle of it that I wasn't able to be objective. I was utterly brainwashed into thinking it was all part of being a part of a long-term adult relationship. I must mention he was/is very good at manipulating any situation and me and others. It wasn't until the hospital staff told me after I drove my heavily pregnant self to the hospital after a violent assault, and they saw his size 12 steel cap boot print on my thigh, after I just told them that I slipped in the bathroom, that I was even told it was DV and wasn't relationship drama or normal problems to endure at all. It was horrendous to endure and to have that mindset of victim blaming is just being an absolutely shit human and unless you've actually been in the situation of fighting for your children's and your life and living every day in flight or fight mode, walking on eggshells every single day, out of fear for your children's safety, you really don't have any valid opinions or rights to tell the actual survivors how they should feel or what it's like to be in that abusive dynamic. I wasn't and will never, ever be a perpetrator of violence towards my kids, I saved them, like I saved myself, and did everything in my power to keep them from all of it. I was forced to have our second child, he was a product of rape. I had 2 miscarriages, both same circumstances, but I lost them after being assaulted further, one that I lost was between our 2 living children and one two months after my son was born, that wasn't ever my choice. Literally no one outside of our relationship knew the full extent of everything going on at the time, the people closest to us had an inkling but not proof until things came to light and I finally found my voice after the incident whilst being pregnant with our second child. I put things in place immediately when I found out what was happening and what the relationship truly was, to start making steps to get away, we were in refuge for almost 2 years. I did everything to protect my children so to have people even lightly suggest I abused them or put them in harms way by staying, Jesus, just take a step back and realize life isn't that simple and leaving is incredibly dangerous. Especially when dealing with a very possessive sociopathic narcissist that doesn't care about anyone or anything unless he controls it completely. I had to placate him for months so I could bide my time to make a plan to keep my children safe. He said too many times that if I was to try to leave, he would murder my daughter, my son, my family in front of me, then himself just so I have to suffer forever. That's just a miniscule amount of the shit I went through, not even scratching the surface, I would be here for months explaining everything that happened during the time we were together. You have no god damn idea what it's like to "live" like that. That's what I'd say. :)

@@stephoso Also, PSA, Women and men, girls and boys, please stay safe and self aware of your relationships and your own boundaries inside those relationships, whether they're romantic or domestic in any way. Worship your own gut instincts because they're usually right, as for me, the red flags were there in the beginning, but his charm was enough to make my otherwise smart and usually matured mindset, disregard it all. Know you're not alone and that you have every right to opt out of being treated less than you deserve. You deserve the world, filled with happiness and golden crusted self worth, but most importantly respect and safety. You shouldn't ever have to sacrifice any of your beliefs or your mind, body or soul to make someone else happy. Take in all of the information out there and read up on it. Educate yourself and be vigilant. I wish I knew more about DV beforehand but knowing all that I do know now, I try to educate anyone who will listen. If only to make sure everyone around me and anyone I can inform knows they have a choice, and a right to feel safe and loved without conditions. I just wish I could protect everyone from the harsh world and reality, of what it is whilst living through DV. Informing them what DV actually is, what it looks and sounds like, and the red flags to look for, and to know there's support out there for help in crisis is so important. I want to open the discussion to help anyone I can survive it. ❤️

As a kid who grew up in a household with domestic violence happening on a daily basis, this movie hits different. I've never really seen things from my mother's perspective and it hurts more to see that she may have been happy like Lily in the beginning until my dad started hitting her. 💔

have you read the movie? if you haven't i strongly recommend it. my sister was in abusive relationship and even though i tried being next to her and supporting her through the ups and downs i always judged her in my head even though i never said it aloud. this book made me rethink all of my "believes and understandings" regarding abusive relationships. not only is the woman happy at the beginning.. but she continues to be happy in between the moments there is not abuse, and when there is your heart somehow convinces your mind that things don't add up: he cannot be such a bad man when he made you fall in love with him, when he takes care of you and loves you... it is a divine book and i think all girls and women have to read it, it is not a romance, but so much more

Vast majority of cases, the abuser does everything right in the beginning. Once they believe you’re trapped, that’s when the abuse starts. And then it’s a cycle. Abuse followed by going back to who they were before until you’re comfortable then start all over. It’s the same strategy cults use to brainwash you.

Justin Baldoni playing Ryle is imo excellent casting. The whole point of Ryle is to highlight that abuse comes from those who we least expect it which in turn contributes to the vicious cycle. Justin himself addresses topics like toxic masculinity and misogyny through his man enough podcast and I think the choice of him not just to direct but to play a character such as Ryle further shows that it really can happen to anyone. It reminded me of casting choices from Promising Young Woman where there were intentional casting decisions to further the message of that movie.

Older actors can't play parts? Atlas has to be more handsome? No praise for the emotions being portrayed? No word for the song my tears richochet? The comment section is not doing justice. A movie is someone's imagination, they can cast anyone
@reinam3882
@reinam3882 3 ай бұрын
They can cast whomever they want but viewers are also allowed to have an opinion on that casting. Sorry but I agree. Not a fan of the casting choice. There are younger actors in their 20s that would have done this movie justice.

Yea because this book has a fundamentally immature fanbase, they can't fathom that the situations that the age bracket for the situations the characters are put into is wide
@misslegacyatheart
@misslegacyatheart 3 ай бұрын
If they casted someone younger, they would have said something too. I think, given the very mature, triggering plot points in the book, they had to go older. Think about if they cast someone younger (maybe looking to get away from Disney shows or something). They would come with a large fan base of young people, who would want to maybe go see this. In my opinion, it's a little too heavy for someone who is 12, 13, 14, even a little older to see or even read. I get you have different people in your head but with a subject like DV, there has to be a nuanced sense of maturity and Blake and Justin have that.

Grown up people don’t say that ryle is ugly . Because to say something like that it’s just so childish and mean, just because Atlas wasn’t represented by the sexiest perfect men , like Theo James . This movie represents something real . Actually real. It already teaches us , that you can easily be fouled by something so beautiful,while in reality it hurts you . And tbh the actor is a pretty fine looking man ❤Loved the trailer . Excited to see it in theatres .

I read the whole novel yesterday and it hurts to see the story It was like I was going through it all over again. I can totally understand why it took so long for you to finally rylee because sometimes we think our love can change that person. And we tend to give him more and more and more chances to hurt us. And Yes we should break the pattern we should not let them hurt us ,we should make it stop. It's been so many years that I I have left this guy but when I read the novel it was like all my old wounds were opened again. I couldn't sleep last night because everything was replaying in my memories I couldn't speak I couldn't hear anything , I was just nymb, I was just reliving all the pain that he has given me (the guy I loved the most) . I was never able to trust any guy ever again, he just broke something in me. I definitely do not love him any more ,but there are so many painful memories that get revived whenever I watch something like this, I get scared ... will I ever be able to love someone or trust someone????
