The slave contract mentioned in 04:00 was brought up to light by "JYJ" (Jaejoong Yuchun & Junsu) who were former TVXQ members under sm but once they speak up for their rights & battled for it, sm blacklisted & banned them for TV promos up today (since 2009) despite them winning in the court & bringing all the entertainment industry & laws to change for a much better space for idols against their companies! They sacrificed much for these newest generations! They are true heros & should have been mentioned in here!

Tae Lover the worst part about kpop is the horrendous pain idols go through when they’re overworked(which is literally their entire career) and they can’t really do anything about it like 98% of the time because most companies don’t give a fuck about their idols, they’re just money making guinea pigs to them. they're actually worth about the same. tht money doesn't just go into some random person's pockets, it goes back into the company. which why they are able to do cool projects like sm station, they also pay their employees the most compared to other companies( their employees also have really good benefits) . along with housing, clothing, vacations etc. and investing into trainees. while i do believe the artists deserve a higher percentage, that 5% is only pertaining to physical sales.

What protocols do they give to idols during fanmeetings, concerts, music shows, in using their social media accounts, or even just when they're on their private/personal time? Do you think there's a chance that some idols would date a fan? Or like are they open to dating a fan? lol too many questions i'm sorry! i'm just really curious about all these. Under this matter, I would be interested in how they are oriented to deal with toxic or creepy "fans" (if we can call them that way). There are fans who are noisy or a bit "crazy", but they are fine and can be easily dealt with, because they usually mean no harm, but there are some that might act in very "inconvenient" ways (like trying to touch the idols, stalking them, saying "bad" things or trying to take "improper" photos). How the companies orient the idols about that and what they actively do to prevent that?

The company asking *"oh why dont you trust us?"* about the money statements is annoying. I'm like duh? Of course they had to know! They should and they can! It is not trust issues, it is business! They are all in entertainment but it is still business anyway! Companies taking that personally surely lacks professionalism and transparency. To be honest it is lawful in any country to see your payment slip, the division and all. There is no exception to their industry. Geez! To all the young ones who are aspiring to be idols here: if you could read this, make yourselves familiar on money matters, seriously study accounting and finance. You would surely need it even in any jobs. You should know it, helpful in cases like these :)

The contract type that you explained around 11:30 is usually called a Noncompete Clause. And now I understand why some artists just stay stagnant for a few years, then pop up out of nowhere with a new album on a new label. I feel bad that they are wasting their talent and years waiting out contracts but like you said a lawsuit is a lot.

I can now see how some of these kids and young adults fall into these contracts. They are no different than a mortgage, minus the out clause of not being required to pay off the remaining debt once you complete the full years of the contract (if that's 100% factual, that is). But these kids and young people are signing into contracts where they do not fully realize the long term consequences, at signing. And the smaller companies who cannot afford to maintain a legitimate calculation of artists's income & spending are without a doubt skimming off the top. I guarantee it cuz that type of setup leaves the door wide open to do so. Which means these artists are working, at times, for free. Btw thank you so much for these videos.

Well the music, makeup, clothing, MV, Sets, Stuff, dance instructors... everything is important, so the company will need a lot of money, if they want to pay them equaly. Also the money of the company will be invested more in the idols in form of other stuff like housing etc. SNSD for example had a hughe dorm with lots of fancy stuff, while I know from other companys, that the idols didn't even have enough chairs in their dorms for the amount of members living there.....

i don't think this youtuber did proper research. For idols,their main income out of all things they do is from world tour and the biggest amount of money they earn is from there. @NCT is coming for your wigs All things being equal, yes, they receive a higher percentage (SM takes 30% and the artist gets 70%). At another agency, like YG for example, the artist gets 50% and the agency takes 50% for overseas promotions. Of course, not all things are equal. You don't know if one agency is better at promoting overseas than another, so maybe if an agency pays the artist a higher percentage for overseas promotions, they may not try to book as many overseas performances as an agency that pays a smaller percentage.

First of all, CHILL! Second of all, yes it's a business but that doesn't give you the right to slave people so that you can earn from them. If they managed to debut you make a lot of money off them anyway so you could at least act with more respect. Besides, the way you write makes me think that you're just a troll anyway. Probably an attention - seeker cause no big company employee would make the commends you make in the way you do lol.

And SM has a Coex Building while other Ent. hasn't it still benefit to company,to artist and to all employees. Sooner or Later SM will build Statues of their groups and Artists and if search how much the every clothes they wearing in every music video its so expensive some of them are customized. This is why I like to inform myself very well before making a decision. It's a life career we are talking about. These contracts could backfire at you and you won't be able to complain because you signed a contract. So go get a lawyer and inform yourself to know what you are about to do with your life. I myself informed myself and still am before making any choices. I was going to audition online and turn it in. But I decided to inform myself more so I know what things will be like. Good luck to all. I will see if I want to continue after searching a bit more.👍

I have a couple of questions 1. if there are say 5 people in a group one has trained for 10 years one 7 years and the others 2 years, obviously they all have a different amount of debt so does the company add all the debt together and you all pay the joint debt together? If not what happens? 2. If one member gets cfs does he/she get the money for themselves or is it split between the group?
@alondraghoul5449

Girl she mentioned it... It really depends on the type of contract tou are given some are given completely shared others make individual. Its a really important decision since if one of the members is more popular and gets more activities and has a share. All of the money she makes will be split with the company and the other members... Its a tricky decision

I know it doesn't really answer your question but I remember Secret talked about how one of their members was making all the money in the beginning through solo activities but that member was nice enough to split their money with the rest of the members. i believe they do! i read somewhere (and a long time ago) that the main vocal of this certain group (i don't even remember which group lol) was also the one doing background vocals and harmonies and stuff on their album, so he received more than the other members in that division. and vice versa i think the dancers will get more too if he helped with choreography and stuff.

all the same. obviously if you're a main vocalist or dancer, you will get more outside opportunities than other members. or if you have a great personality and some variety show wants you to host or be on it, then you get more work , thus more $, but promotions as a group, all members get the same. now if you wrote the song, etc. you get a bit more. you don't get more $ just because you're the main vocalist when it comes to group activities together.

At the end of the day it is the idol/K-pop "industry" for a reason. It's a business. And just like other businesses people wanna make money and sometimes the means of doing so really suck. Hopefully everybody keeps that in mind and pushes for better standards all around, especially for the young folks (older ones too, but especially the younger ones) who might be too starry-eyed to see the corporate world more for what it is. Neat insider. Kinda curious about some of the finer details, but I understand those can be protected by NDAs or might be more complex than you or somebody else feels comfortable navigating.

I know the answer could be they have fan meets or fan signs but if you are an international fan it's very expensive and hard to attend them so if you are lucky enough they have a concert in your country and you are lucky enough to meet them the management tells them they can't I know sometimes idols break the rules and sometimes do it but if the idol wants to take a pic or sign an autograph why do management stop them?

Snsd's tiffany mentioned that when she came to Korea, Taeyeon's family was kind enough to take her in during their trainee days, so I guess you have to find a place on your own until you debut when they give you a dorm, plus lots of idols have revealed having to take 2-4 hours to get to seoul from home, just for practice. So I doubt they provide a place for them.

i don't think this youtuber did proper research. For idols,their main income out of all things they do is from world tour and the biggest amount of money they earn is from there. Sm is takes 3 and artist take 7 while other takes 5 and 5. Also, that 5% of SM is based on gross profit, while others based on net profit. so it is not that different
